Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 56°, a brisk start to a late-May day. Once again today it's only supposed to get into the mid-70's before returning to the usual mid-80's for the next week or so.
Went to Saturday evening Mass yesterday since my two grandsons are coming up this morning to earn some spending money by helping grandpa and grandma. I have spent parts of three days cutting low-hanging branches and volunteer trees along the east part of the yard bordering the road. I also trimmed the trees along the south easement road that were encroaching the road by over 3'. Those trees are not on my property, but alongside a field that a local farmer leases. The issue is that those trees are forcing drivers, especially UPS, Amazon and FedEx to veer over into my yard, in effect moving the gravel road north a bit more. Neither the farmer, absentee landowner or the county will trim them, so I have to do it about every 7-9 years. Neighbor actually did it last time because he mows along the road. Grandsons will be spending time trimming and gathering up all of the branches and moving them to a central location. Some of it is actually big enough to be used as firewood, but most will be shredded into mulch and compost. Chances are that I will have too much and some will be burned. The older of the two boys will also get some time pushing the mower. We'll also possibly remove the pool cover per my wife, although I think that it is actually too early this season. The water temperature is still in the low 60's. And with clouds and showers forecast this week, it ain't gonna warm up any time soon.
Before they arrive, I will make a major broccoli harvest this morning from the garden. Yesterday I picked the English Pea row, which doesn't seem to be willing to recover from the back to back 95° days recently. That meant summer to those plants which like cooler weather. Looks like I'll be picking Jalapeno Peppers this coming week. I need to sacrifice a Carrot to see how they are doing. Tomatoes everywhere but they are small and green right now.
I didn't spend any time out in the train shed yesterday. Between gardening, pruning and household chores, there just wasn't really any time. It's unusual that I don't spend at least an hour out there if I am home!
A few scenes from Maultown.
Tom O - You posted yesterday about Austin not being "crazy big". It just recently passed Ft Worth to become the 4th biggest city in Texas after Houston, San Antonio and Dallas. It should top 1 million in the next 2 Years. It is quite a vibrant place as you posted.
Patrick - Nice looking dollhouse. Keep us posted on it's construction.
Guy - Alberta 51 - I thought that it was a really far out there thing that I never thought could come to fruition. I just wondered how your fellow citizens felt about it.
Todd - Take care of yourself.
Everybody have a wonderful Sunday.
