This information is for modern 130 ton cars only. Obviously 100 ton cars will be proportionately different.

Molten Sulfur = 15,700 gal. Car length = 45' ~15 lb/gal
Corn Syrup = 19,600 gal. Car length = 42' ~11 lbs/gal

Sulfur cars are insulated and have heater coils between the tank and jacket. Corn syrup cars have only insulation between tank and jacket.

I don't remember where I got this information from, but it is less than 8 years old. The wt/gal is approximate and I found it on the Internet. This is for cars manufactured by Greenbrier Manufacturing. I may have gotten it from their website, but I no longer have it bookmarked.
I have the Greenbrier website in my list. I couldn’t find anywhere the difference other than a couple feet over the couplers and gallon differences. The heating coils make sense but wonder if the corn syrup cars have heating coils. I know that both cars have 6” of insulation.

I was trying to decide if I could substitute a corn syrup car for a molten sulfur. Outward appearances look close. Decals are easy to change and are available

Willie,as promised, here is the benchwork from last weekend. it extends 16 feet from the lift bridge the crosses the laundry room door that leads to an Islad where the train traverses a loop and returns. Next weekend a trip to the lumbar yard is in order, as I have run out of 1x3s for support braces and legs. Also I need more spline.

Outward appearances are mostly the same. Some but not all corn syrup cars have a pressure relief valve on top along with the standard hatch.
If the difference is small enough that you trial the others, just avoid photographing near the engine and rear and perhaps not interspersed where the difference might stick out to the eagle eyed. In which case they might pass master. I do not know this stock so cannot comment on the actual differences

Good morning gang!

56° this morning under partly cloudy conditions after an overnight shower. Temps today are going to climb to a very pleasant 74° under sunny skies. Rain on tap for tomorrow, but at least it’s coming during the week and not on the weekend.
Gonna make a Home Depot run today after work to get more lumber. Need some legs for bench work.

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 66°, getting close to 90° later on. Temperatures will be going down for the next 10 days, thankfully. Lows in the upper-60's and highs in the low-80's.

The mowing odyssey has begun anew after the recent rain. The volunteer winter rye is seeding, the dandelions are everywhere and it's warm enough for the Bermuda to start going wild. I did the largest area on the east side yesterday; this week I am going in a N-S orientation, last week it was E-W. It avoids patterns developing in the yard. Today I will do the south part of the yard which takes a little longer to soak up the water. I just don't want wheel ruts! Laundry today after the dishwasher yesterday. I'll be replacing a ceiling fan/overhead light fixture in one of the unused bedrooms today. Wife wants to convert it into her "hobby room". It's payback since I built the train shed for me a few years ago.

Looking around the garden yesterday bought a couple of nice sights.

Seeing these two means that the harvest will be a little bit staggered instead of getting heads from all 12 plants at once. These will double in size every day for about a week before I need to pick them. Then I will get many smaller heads from every leaf axial until it gets too hot. Note the flower bud on the onion plant in the second picture. That needs to be snipped or else the onion itself will split into two. Although edible, they don't store well. It happens to a small minority of plants and some years none of them.

As usual on Sunday, I didn't get to spend a lot of time out in the train shed yesterday. I started sorting through the large box of trees that Chet sent me. Many of them are 10"-12" tall made from sagebrush. A few need some repairing which shouldn't be too difficult. I also did some minor repair on three structures that had parts knocked off during the shipping process.
Here's a few of those structures.

I also added a picnic table with figures to the BBQ trailer scene.

I have another table to add along with a shade tree before I am done.
Here's the whole scene from the bank parking lot over to the food trailer.

I need some figures and vehicles for Cooter's Liquor Store, but I have plenty to use.

Tom O - The pricing on new HO freight cars is really ridiculous now. I looked at some Saturday at the LHS and I was just floored. I guess that it's because I haven't really looked since I stopped purchasing them in 2014. Although I did purchase a few at the train show in January, they weren't new. Thankfully I have all that I need with about 2 dozen NIB on the shelf.
Jaz - The cheap Chinese figures are actually knock-offs of much better quality Preiser figures. I don't intentionally purchase them, but have gotten several packages as Christmas gifts from my kids. I have noticed that they have gotten a bit better over the years, but the paint jobs really suck at times.
Karl - Benchwork is coming along nicely.

Everybody have a magnificent day.

Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those who are living the Barbie life,

It's Troy again...

Got to see the kid, deliver the Litter Robot, and take them out for pizza on Sat. Wife said that kid admitted she was hinting that I should build a cabinet to put said giant litter box into for her.

You'd think that after 30 years on this planet, the kid (and after 36 years of being married to me, the wife) would know that hints zoom right past me like an F1 car on a straightaway.

Made some progress on the layout's benchwork. Started putting the second deck up.

The cleats on the wall are not supports. They'll take the screws for the backdrop hardboard. The deck is screwed into the wall, and a brace on either end to the lower deck should handle it. I will be extending it around to the left of camera. That's on tap for this week. I really want to get the backdrop in place and out of my way.

Speaking of backdrop, I was all geared and ready to start ripping the 24" wide sections I've got on hand to fit under the 2nd deck... and then did the math.

I need sections that are in the 16 to 17 inch in height for the lower deck... One 48" wide piece of hardboard can be ripped twice to make three 16" sections. And I can get a 16" by 8 foot length into my Camry if I lay the passenger seat back after dropping the back seat. It's tight, but it fits.

So, I'll make a lowes run later this week and get the hardboard cut. What I've got on hand will be used on the upper deck. So it will stay in my way until I get the second deck far enough to handle the backdrop.

Good morning from So. Central WIsconsin where the weather sucks and it isn’t predicted to get any better today. After a beautiful dry 80f degree yesterday we will be in the 50’s with rain continuing till evening. A couple days are coming of this and then 70’s and dry the balance of the week.

So, I have some Monday household chores to do (vacuuming) bathroom cleaning and make the bed. If I put my mind to it, maybe 90 minutes and I’m done. After that it will be on and off spending time at the bench and 90 minutes in the daughter’s studio workshop. I have a personal graffiti project to finish, package up some freight cars for the post office, clear coat some containers and do some work on 3 locomotives. Actually just those things should take me into the weekend at the bench.

I don’t really need any groceries since I did stop at the deli to pick up my lunch meats. I looked at soda prices and while I only have 6 bottles of diet Dr Pepper there is a case of 24 cans of diet Cherry Pepsi and that will do. I drink 1 caffeinated soda a day, usually the diet Dr Pepper but the diet Cherry Pepsi now will do. I will not be buying at the current pricing of $4.99 for a 6 pack of bottles. My non-caffeinated sodas, root beer, ginger ale and 7up all all the diet variety and I have enough for maybe another month. Yep, I know tough life choices. Spoiled I know, why because I earned it.

I am going to experiment with a building flat. I have a guy interested in a flat but he wants it 11’ something long. 1 to 4” deep and varying heights. He wants it built in 24” sections for ease of shipping. I don’t have a biscuit maker and I know no one to borrow from. I don’t want to say no as this is the client I am building the paper mill commission for. But it is a separate project. The daughter says I should just go rent the biscuit maker for a couple days. Or, she said buy one and she’ll find uses for it in her projects. I am going to try pinning 3 sections together today. Making a location jig will take up the most time of this project today. The clamps holding everything together will require a trip to the Big Box store, orange colored.

enjoy the day
