Good Morning, all! The day has started out quite nice with temps in the 70's, but of course, 90's are predicted.
Flo, breakfast tacos and coffee.

Yesterday was grocery trek day. No I didn't see Willie in the store.
Jeff - the way your mind works, maybe you can answer a question that has puzzled me for years. How close to the ceiling does a fly get before turning over to land?
Guy - Like the switch pole
Ken -
Ohhhhh, so much back pain this morning. Have no idea where it came from.
Could it be that CHAIR in the previous post? :D:D:D

With the grocery trip yesterday, no progress to report on the fire house. Today, yard work is on the agenda, so I'm not sure if I get any work on it today.

STAY SAFE
LATER

Definitely the chair, it was on fleebay for a reason

Ken - you should have posted a few more pics of the chair so we could better analyze it

Dang it... Now the voices in my head are REALLY going at it.🤡

And as usual, the voices in my head will answer a question with a question. How long are it's legs? How long after it flies away does it stay upside down? Maybe flies are immune to gravity, which is how they stay on the ceiling... If a fly can see 360 degrees, how does it see anything above it? If it's upside down, then is it really looking up? But it can't look up, it's head doesn't pivot that way. Do Flies even have necks? Head, Thorax Abdomen... no mention of neck... If a fly has a compound eye that sees like... I dunno, a few hundred of me all at once, I'd fly away too.

What time is it? I hear time is relative. If time is relative, do I have to send it a wedding invite? How would I even do that. I guess it doesn't matter, time marches on...

What was I doing?

Been sitting out on the patio, doing some phone-calling to check in on mom, and to get a work order in for getting the steel tub in her senior apt cut down to a walk-in shower. They don't actually pull and replace. They just cut the tub, and cap it. All for about $500 (US).

And, had to laugh... the cat came out to sit with me, eat some of the cat grass wife cultivates for him. But, he took one look at the plastic owl I positioned where the old mourning dove nest was – and he bolted inside.

While I was laughing at him, I got the notice that my Amazon package had been delivered.
Good! I broke the lid to my coffee carafe and ordered a new one. Old one still works, but leaks if I pour off center.

Do you, by chance, see the photo of the delivery most drivers take now?

Screenshot 2022-05-27 at 1.25.58 PM.png

It's usually right above the "How was your delivery?" line.

I walked the row of our building, both front and back. Not there.

So, yep. He/she got the thumbs down, and an "I didn't receive the order" about 10 minutes after I got the notice.

It's probably at one of my neighbors. But since almost all deliveries go INSIDE the patio fences, I don't know which one.

I'll wait to see if a neighbor returns it to me.

Troy, if your Amazon driver marked the package "delivered to customer" there will be no photo. That should only happen if they hand it to you or another household member.
It is also possible that your order was grouped with one or more other orders. To save time the driver marked them "delivered together" like an apartment building with a concierge. In your case that should not happen.
Otherwise there should always be a photo. Except in th case of an Amazon delivery app glitch. Technology is great, when it works.
As an Amazon contractor I'd like to apologize for my cohort. Rest assured, Amazon will take care of you. As I tell all the Amazon customers I interact with, "thank you for your order, I appreciate it. Without you Amazon doesn't need me"

Thanks, Louis.

I found that lack of photo, in our complex, usually means lazy driver.

The gates to our patios are right next to our garages. These are privacy fences, so we cannot see traffic pass by.

Screenshot 2022-05-27 at 2.11.31 PM.png

the lazy drivers usually drop the package by the green laminated sign I tacked up. That sign says please bring all packages inside the gate...

If they at least get it in the gate, I can see it from the kitchen window. Outside the gate, and the porch pirates see it before I ever will.

You may be correct on the mass grouping. Half an hour after I finally gave up and clicked the thumbs down, it was slid through my mail slot into the garage. (that was checked repeatedly, figuring a lazy driver might slide a thin package in there.) whether the driver got the notice and returned with a misdelivered package, or if it was group scanned, and they took their sweet time getting it here, I'll never know. Might have even been a neighbor who dropped it into my mail slot.

With the pandemic, a lot of folks began working from home. I figured most drivers would have figured out we actually get the notices and check the drop zones for packages. Especially with the increase in porch pirates in recent years.

Ah well, at least I got the lid.

Edit: I do remember hearing the start and stop of a van cruise our stretch, which is why I was watching for the delivery.

Troy it was most likely a neighbor. Drivers are not notified immediately, sometimes for days or even weeks for missing packages.
Pride in what we do is as scare as a good work ethic. This applies not only to Amazon, but most aspects of life.

Upscale neighborhoods like yours are not uncommon. I consider neighborhoods like yours to be easy deliveries. Long, unpaved, rural driveways are another story. No matter, we are to always take the package to the customers door. It is in our own best interest to put the package inside your gate. Amazon holds it against us if a package goes missing.

Well done on the "thumbs down"! Amazon has a strict rating system. Fantastic (like me 😁), great, fair, at risk and deactivated. They even keep track of customer compliments. I have over 1200 compliments this year. I assume they keep track of complaints. I can't say, I've never had a complaint. Sooner or later the "scum bags" will be gone. I've been an Amazon contractor for almost 6 years. I only see a handful of familiar faces, Amazon employees and contractors. Amazon has no mercy for poor performance or a lack of integrity.

I almost had a complaint once. A raised pickup truck was tailgating me for blocks. Repeatedly sounding his horn. Finally I stopped, yelling at him, F&#$ you, you redneck mother f$%&er. He immediately turned left onto another street. I continued another half block to my stop. My customer, a young lady was sitting on her porch laughing. Embarrassed, I apologized. She said "don't worry, he is an asshole" and continued laughing.
I learned my lesson, never yell at people in the neighborhood I have deliveries in. If I'm just passing through, that's a different story.

I'm glad you got your package! Have a cup of coffee on me.

The weekly grocery trek went off without a hitch yesterday. No stock outs here and less crowding of the aisles than normal. While I was at Kroger, my wife went over to Aldi's to look for "low-carb" hamburger buns. She chose not to purchase them since they were nearly $20 for eight, and they were 21 carbs each. I pointed out that the package of eight that I purchased at Kroger was $1.59, and they were 23 carbs each. I have personally never seen anything cheap at Aldi's.

I have not had "low carb" hamburger buns, but I did buy a loaf or two of "KETO" white bread. Both Walmart and Costco had it (in differing package sizes of course) and I thought I'd give it a try.

Was terrible. Worse than eating cardboard. Didn't even make a good grilled cheese when smothered in good butter and with a few slices of good cheese between.

So I don't think you were missing anything.

We don't have Aldi around here but have shopped at them when in Florida. We've gotten some good stuff relatively inexpensively but it wouldn't be one of my main stops if we did have them around here. (Now, when I lived in Germany in the 80s and 90s, Aldi was my main go-to shopping spot for basic groceries).

Too bad the dandelion leaves are so bitter. Every part of the dandelion is edible, and they have more nutritional value than most other greens. But I can never get the bitter aftertaste out of my mouth... Just can't bring myself to eat it...
Have you tried multiple waters? (ie, cooking, then rinsing, then cooking again, then maybe one more time?) As a boy scout long ago we had an expert on surviving in the wilderness and we learned about what plants you could eat and which ones not, and one of the things you did was use multiple waters for cooking, which did two things: made some plants that were not good to eat, now good to eat, and also made good to eat bad tasting plants taste better.

That reminds me. When I went to Johns Hopkins a few weeks ago they insisted on measuring my height. Last time my doctors office did it it was 6'6. To my surprise Hopkins measure me at 6'8! I had them do it twice to be sure. I thought I had lost 3 inches, nope I've only lost 1inch! Not only am I not dead yet, I'm getting back to my old self!

Afternoon all,

Got the yard mowed. I don't dig the dandelions...I use a tank mix of a product with 2,4-d. Until the neighbors get into killing them, I prefer that to doing actual digging. Still have them, mostly in the back yard, but nice and green!

Got to do a bit more but,

20220527_150828.jpg

No weeds! Little oak is mine, grass still has some bits from last week's mow, but is otherwise healthy. I use the self propelled mower on the front as it cuts evenly. I don't use the propel part as it moves to slow for my natural gait.

The after

Work in process, the downspouts are drying and the Digestor (has the sign and pipe bridge) building is now on the bench.

Low carb bread, I cut my carb intake down since January to 40-60 for breakfast, same for lunch and 50-70 for dinner. I have lost 17# and feel much better. As to bread and the carb count, I love bread but too many carbs so when I have bread or a bun now it’s just one slice or 1/2 the bun. It works for me. What I miss though are my homemade breads especially my pumpernickel and sourdough.

Friday night in Wisconsin traditionally is Fish Fry. My night to pick and told Terry my choice, she says no. I say why let me pick if you have veto rights, her response, because I do. 2nd choice I picked is fine, then she said the 1st choice was too far away. 12 versus the 6 miles we are going. Not worth worrying about!

Edit at 4pm CST:

before noon today I turned the new paint booth on and used a spray can of Testor Dull Cote. Chased me out of the workshop. Called the HVAC guys who created my wonderful booth saying that I thought the fan was too small. Nope, 2 guys just left after borrowing the extension ladder asthey cleaned out the outside vent where birds took up housing. They will be back in a few minutes with a cage to surround the vent.
