The winds came through yesterday afternoon. Probably the strongest gusts I've ever experienced here in NC in 26 years. This is the empty house next door.

We had all of the tall pines cut down that were close to the house years ago just for this reason.

They got lucky, the tree broke some 40' up, otherwise the big trunk would have done a lot more damage. It did clear all the way over the entire roof though. Saw a roofing company about 4pm looking at it.

Same here at 74, I may have had 3 cups in my whole life. I start the day with a Sugar-Free A&W Root Beer, which I am enjoying right now. Never developed the caffeine habit, coffee or tea.
Yeah me either. I do drink a sugar free or. Karly sugar free home made cacao some “mornings” it’s not as a picker-upper. It’s because the raw cacao powder and ceremonial cocoa wafers I use are supposed to be good for your circulatory system.

I like Mt Dew or any soda but we don’t buy it. Just when we eat out so I drink it. So I do get a caffeine “worse” occasionally. I bought some caffeine : l-theanine combo pills last year and tried that for a month. It does help your mind-quickness but I decided it wasn’t worth it. Now o my if I have an important interview or meeting.

1-2 cups of strong coffee every morning when I wake up. A little half & half added. I can't take any more caffeine than that or I won't sleep at night and I get acid reflux.

Haven't had a soda in decades.

I do enjoy a cup or two imported organic Sencha Matcha daily in the afternoon. Miniscule amount of caffeine compared to my morning coffee.

Starting my first cup this minute. Slept late today, nearly until 0800 after my Ford Turbo Diesel alarm clock went off at 0410 this morning. I thought about getting up, but I knew I'd be sleeping again by lunch if I did get up that early.

Good morning to everyone, it's 48°F out with light wind here and overcast.

Just before jumping on here I tried to call in two of my scripts and the numbers were not recognized. I'll have to call when they open and talk to a human. No telling what went wrong. I double checked and tried entering the numbers again, but their automated system did not recognize the scripts.

Cheap readers are supposed to arrive today. Only two days late. Walmart didn't have these in-store so I had to order them. "Get them tomorrow!" was the hook line. So I took the bait, and 56 hours later I'm still waiting.

Have a great Friday the 13th! Servus!

Just had my body composition done. I put on 5# since last year. I thought it was muscle from the increase (every other day) in gym time. My strength had definitely increased.

NOPE, 5# of belly fat......body fat % went from 14.5% to 18%. My doctor winked and asked if I had increased the beer and sugar in my diet. The man knows me after 20+ years. ;) No beer or chocolate in the last 10 days.......3# have dropped off.

Good Morning All. Clear and 48° this Friday the 13th. Back into the mid-70's for a few days before the next cold front Sunday night, They're predicting low-90's by next Thursday. Other than the 7 days that we were completely iced in at the end of January, it has been a relatively mild winter this season. Never completely put away the shorts and was wearing them much of February. I normally have to burn firewood in the heater for 22 days every February, but this past month, just 7 days! So far just once in March, Wednesday night; but I see 2 more days Sunday and Monday coming up. March is usually a 10 day heating month. So I am saving on firewood this season.

Weekly grocery trek went OK yesterday. Prices stable, supply good. Bought two more corned beefs for the freezer while they are still on sale. Gas about town has stabilized at $3.29/gal, even at the nearby country convenience store. Price of ground beef dropped by about 50¢/lb this week; pork is still cheaper. Spent the early afternoon clearing stuff from the yard so I can mow unhindered today. It's actually a late start to the mowing season due to the lack of rain from October until the ice storm in late January.

As I posted already, the plan is to mow some today. Hoping to get half of the yard mowed, about 1.25 acres. Ground is still too soft from the Tuesday rain to drive on in a couple of areas, so that limits me.
I noticed yesterday that we might be getting a new neighbor. Down by my mailbox, 1.25 miles south; they're installing a 20' culvert pipe along the road leading into a 10 acre field. We don't get a lot of newcomers around here.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I made more progress on the residential structure. Completed the roof and added the porches and gutters.

Didn't add the downspouts or steps yet since I'm still handling it and those protruding parts tend to come off easily. Had a whole bunch of leftover parts that are not in the instructions.

OK, I am used to this with Walther's industrial kits where parts can be used for several kits; but I never had it with residential kits. After closer examination, I realized that they were for the back porch (or front depending on the final orientation).

There's indentations in the porch itself for the posts. Let's see if this will work.

Patrick - Barney Fife's around here are generally more forgiving. Chances are good that they have an offender in their own driveway at home as well.
Terry - It will be interesting to see if they reuse that railroad bridge when they rebuild.
Troy - I didn't watch the video, I was just answering your question. Although what you describe might just work well.
David (Marlin) - Even the best companies sometimes have a "Murphy" product like your Bar Mills kit!
Tom O - I find wind chimes annoying, but I am too far from the next door neighbors who like them, to hear them myself. Glad to read that the Good Samaritan Terry, has been able to help her BIL.

Everyone have a fine Friday.

I'm going have to do a reverse on charging you phone by way of a charging pad vs a wire connection. In my search for doing all things phone the easiest way I have found that charging pads create heat and heat kills the phone battery over time. So, it turns out using a usb-c wire is the best way to charge, connect to your song play list, etc, is the better of the two options.
Now I'm going have to go into my cars setting and disable the charging pad because this is where I place my phone while driving. Swal

USB-C is all I use. Never had one of those recharging pads, but I'd thought about it in the past. I only plug in my phone every three or four days unless bad weather is expected. I rarely use my phone. I called in a couple of scripts just now, and that will probably be the only call I make until next month at this time.

Unless I have to call up FedEx or USPS and bitch at them awhile.

I seriously doubt that the heat generated is sufficient “to kill” the battery and is more heat than charging with a cable. Your phone gets quite warm or hot charging with a cable.

The phone companies test all this stuff and design to make it work within specs.

Wireless chargers work with induction. The induction coil may get warm but they produce less current than plugging in so less direct heat on your battery I am guessing. The heat from charging plugged in is directly related to the current flowing into the battery.

I’d not worry about. I don’t charge wirelessly very often because my few wireless chargers in the house don’t work well with my phone case. But I wouldn’t hesitate to.

Well, howdy there internet preppers and those who like Pastrami.

It's Troy again.

Well, there's the problem of no Coriander... Seems it's part of the rub recipe. One of the few main spices we don't have on hand.

It's not important on Pastrimi is it?

I had a FB friend tell me it definitely was important.

So, after I got the meat on the smoker, I ran to the grocery.

Here it is about an hour before foil boat time

I decided to try the normal method for not having a dry brisket: put the meat in a foil boat when it stalls, and add water to the drip pan. Kamados are real good at retaining moisture, so I'll see if the gamble pays off. I couldn't find a round rack the right size for my dutch oven, so it's plan B. It might be a learning experience.

The wind here is as bad as in an Oval Orifice Press conference. ;) Just smells nicer with the smoker going.

Power keeps fluttering. Off for a second then back on.

So, I've been doing laundry. Out of three loads, only one might not have made it all the way to a spindown at the end. They didn't seem overly wet, but I was at the grocery when that one happened.

I do have to keep getting up and telling the appleTV box to go back to playing music.

And, of two 3D printer jobs I had going, one recovered. The other one didn't. I'm trying to wait it out and see if it will get going, but I doubt it. I may have to scrape that one into the trash and try it again tomorrow. Fortunately, it was only about 1/6th into an 8 hour print.

Hello all, 60 degrees and sunny here today, supposed to hit 70 and had a really good day yesterday. Family ladies were over planning some Church activities, so Uncle Kevin got to play with Mollie and introduced her to Pink Panther cartoons and started trying to teach her addition. She told me she liked counting on my hands because they so big, like her Daddy's! The last night took their family out to dinner and she came over and was remembering her addition I taught her. Some hobbying on tap for today, as I did none yesterday. May you all be blessed my friends.

SteveJ, praying for you and the family of the man who passed.

Except the Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge that had the battery swell and split on me twice. Once with the original factory battery, and a replacement Samsung battery. They really screwed up that phone. It was one of my favorites at the time too.
Yeah but that wasn't because the design couldn't handle heat from charging. That was because Samsung had shoddy battery manufacturers as partners.

Put some new grips on a Smith & Wesson 1st Model New Century [Triple Lock] and decided to get it's son and grandson out for some pics too. The front one is a 1911 built gun in .44 Special, the middle one is a WW1 gun made in October of 1917 in .45 ACP and the rear one is another .44 Special one of the first 500 3rd Model, made in 1926.
