Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with cats who take the peep right outta the birds

It's Troy again.

New toy time: The Anycubic P1 (P stands for Pro)

Evidently dentists use these things to print dentures and such now. I don't use that super-heavy-duty type of resin, so I don't have a use for the dual vat for two different types of resin at the same time stuff the machine was built for.

Fortunately, I got the base model with a single vat:

Already have it hooked to the ventilation system, though I need to see if someone has designed a right angle adapter for their vent hose outlet.

Sexy steel build plate. Not bad, but they need to make the center thicker with slopes to allow the excess resin to run off.

Now I have to finish dialling in the exposure for the resin I use.

Been kind of a slow day today in here today!

We had a couple of rounds of showers move thru the area this morning that weren't at all predicted then the winds came howling
as the front was moving thru. We have lost 18 degrees since this morning to make it 42F but with the wind it feels more like 27F.

Got all my stuff done around the house so its time to head to the basement and do something down there, even if its just to run a
few trains till dinner. Wife and daughter are occupied in the living room watching some singing competition show on TV.

Be good everyone!

Good evening folks, fairly busy day at work, which is good for the business. For those of you who enjoy firearms, a like new Henry 360 Buckhammer came into the shop and is now on layaway before coming to Deacon's Home for Leverguns. Rain started last night and continued through the day with some severe thunder and lightning. One strike near my Nephew's home started an unoccupied house across the street from him. The FD got it out quickly, so it should be rebuildable. My Missus made us tacos for dinner and now we are relaxing watching Father Brown.

Did you have to have Personnel Reliability Program and Nuclear Surety certifications to work there? We had those certs in the Air Force for working on Minuteman II and other nuclear weapons.
Michael I went to 1 class. The first 12 days I worked there I was outside replacing the water-cooling pipes in from the Hudson River. They had a machine that returned any fish back to the river that may have been sucked in by the cooling pipes. I only lasted 2 days inside the plant. Way too much security for me to put up with. You had to have a guard with you if you used the bathroom. We were building scaffolding etc inside the plant so technicians could access overhead piping. Swal

When I was installing track for my layout, i used a Peco curved turnout. All the diesels went through it without any issues but
the only steamer I had, a Bachmann 2-8-0, would ever so slightly occasionally lift up going through smaller radius direction.
All the wheels were in gauge, ran the engine slowly through the turnout while trying to observe what may cause the issue.
Could never identify the cause. It ran through every other turnout without a problem.

Building a turnout was on my bucket list. I decided to construct a curved turnout with a slightly larger radius to replace the
Peco. Downloaded a fastracks template and bought their HO pcb ties at the Amherst train show. Couldn't justify the cost of
a turnout jig just for one turnout. Made my share of mistakes during on and off periods of construction and finally got it
"pretty good"; but not good enough to replace the Peco turnout.

After all this this time, the mysterious lifting up of the 2-8-0 disappeared so the turnout sat in the box of track stuff. All
my turnouts are Caboose Industries operated or finger flick springs. Saw a miniature linear servo on Amazon and it
piqued my interest and promptly ordered a box of 2.

You can see my attempt at installing ties while trying to maintain rail alignment and getting everything glued at the same time.

Here's the servo mounted to the turnout. Have a servo tester attached and I can activate the throwbar by turning a knob. Been running
engines through the turnout on a jury rigged setup on the workbench. Kind of neat running a loco and car through the turnout, turn the
knob---zzt---throwbar moves---- run the train through the other side----.

All of this is academic right now since I no longer have a need to replace the Peco turnout. Some day I may have a use for this and I can
then dig out the Arduino and write some code to remotely operate the turnout, route power to the frog if needed, and illuminate some
route indicators on a fascia panel.

Found a third PRR steamer, this one a Spectrum K4s with an after market TCS silent decoder. Purchase date 2010, last used January 2015. Runs fine lite and with train. (two BLI P70r coaches for now). Engine could use a little weight and weathering, and maybe a sound decoder and speaker? Also dug out 50s era PRR Alco RS3 and Baldwin S12. Might as well have fun before I tear it down in a month or two.

Tom - thanks for the time change reminder.

Willie - They just keep appointing replacement targets when the current target gets destroyed. Eventually they will find one more interested in self preservation.

I'm gradually removing 60s-70s era equipment in favor of mid 1950 and earlier, keeping in mind steam ended in 1957. That means box cars for grain elevators etc.

Well howdy there all you internet peeps and those suddenly late for church

It's Troy again

Game store later today, but an hour earlier than normal.

Got the new printer up and running. But - Boy! is it messy. The build plate, the part where the models stick as the plate lifts up and down with each new layer - it's flat on top, like my WW2 grandfather's buzz cut, and I have to squeegee it off after every print run to get the liquid resin off.

This one I let sit overnight to see if it would drain with the very slight tilt to the printer not being perfectly level. Nope.

Fortunately, the vat to the hold the resin also has tabs to hold the build plate at an angle so it will drain. But you have to get from point A to Point B without dripping.

And, the natural tilt that imparts is NOT the tilt I have it at here. The manufacturers want it tilted toward the front of the machine, not toward the back like I have it. If I had printing anything taller, I wouldn't be able to get the backward tilt like that. The models would sit in the wet resin in the vat.

Site seems to be working fine right now. But my iphone, that's a different story. I used the translate program to decipher the instructions for my snow plow tram that I am working on. It translated it and then I emailed it to myself so I could get it on my computer. I've done it before without issues. Now it is sending me multiple copies of the same email. I deleted the translate program from my phone, but it is still doing the same thing. I rebooted the phone to no avail.

Good morning from Wisconsin. Did you spring forward on your clocks in America?

It’s bright and sunny outside and looks nice! The WeatherChannel app claims it is 34f degrees in my part of Cheeseland and heading to 60.

I had a great time on a great layout the BN Marais Pass set in 1990 yesterday. That is my last OPS session that I have offically signed up for until the end of June. Then I will be a helper (trainmaster) at the Wisconsin & Upper Michigan on 6/27 and 28. Meanwhile I will be helping get the W&UM ready for the RiverRail invitational on those dates!

Feel like the morning is almost gone now that I adjusted the clocks to 8:29am.

Be well

Today is National Proofreader Day. I shall look forward to everyone correcting my typos.

This week’s bookish birthdays: Jeffrey Eugenides (March 8, 1960), Vita Sackville-West (March 9, 1892), Douglas Adams (March 11, 1952), Ezra Jack Keats (March 11, 1916), Jack Kerouac (March 12, 1922), Edward Albee (March 12, 1928), Tom Clancy (March 12, 1947), and L. Ron Hubbard (March 13, 1911).

Printing a bracket to hang the new printer build plate at an angle to drain. We'll see if it works, or makes the mess worse.

Off to the game store in a few minutes.

Meatloaf tomorrow. So I have to mix it up tonight and get it in the freezer.

I'm surprised they ruined that, my Mono 2 has a beveled/crowned top, but I wish it had a plate hanger.

Mid 40s to start the morning here. A lot of melting going on, supposed to be mid 50s tomorrow.
