Kato makes some of the best affordable intermodal rolling stock. when I was doing N scale I had a ton of their Maxi Is and Maxi IVs.

Now I have switched to HO I have purchased around 10 sets of their Maxi IVs. They roll and track like a dream! Only problem is they
haven't done a run in 5+ years and they go for an insane amount on the secondary market.
Luckily they do runs in N more often. I last picked up two sets in Japan in 2022. The sets were sold out in the US and the price I paid was a little lower than the US prices I saw (whether they were in stock was another question). I have enough sets. I have the Maxi-IV and Maxi-I. I also have some individual well cars and flat cars from others.

What if you switched the new one with the stainless PPK to it's left? It looks like it could be close.
GREAT display btw.

Thanks.

It's too tall and too long to fit in the PPK spot. I'll have to live with it. At least it fit.

The Glock barely fit over the stainless PPK, and in fact there is a headed tack pushing the grip to the right to keep it off of the PPK rear sight.

starving hoards
My wife and kids will be in trouble. They limit themselves to the type of food they eat and eat the same things all the time. I'm game for almost anything and if the big one hits, the free roaming cats, tanuki and other critters become game. Won't be targetting the neighbors' critters as they probably got their shots.

That's one thing bad about being in Japan is that firearms are difficult to get. Wrist rockets are illegal, but one version of lawlessness isn't worse than the other.

When we had the big earthquake in 2011 and everything was shut down, I went walking to see what was going on. The local grocery store didn't have much, but they did put out some lunch boxes. I had to battle through the grandmas as they were pushing me out of the way. Full contact shopping happens here too.

I picked up a bunch of detail junk from the table next to me last weekend. It has been raining on and off all day, so I decided to paint part of the pile. I like having a lot of detail stuff.....just in case.

Doesn't stop the Yakuza etc. But yeah, about the only firearm available is a shotgun and even then it's very very hard if not impossible to get a permit unless maybe you live in a rural area. That's just the feel I get.

I don't know about airguns -- I mean the .177 or .22 ones. The Airsoft type are easy to get and aren't regulated by safety rules like ORANGE tips. SO having a couple of those could be useful since they hurt and people won't know they're not real if the SHTF as they look identical.

Wellp... my sales on Amazon (for my books) tanked today. They'd been running between $25/30 US each day for the past month. With almost no advertising other than releasing a new book a month ago, and the normal multi-author promos.

Today, zero. Zip. Nada.

Then I started hearing other authors were in the same boat... a LOT of authors. Zero. Zip. Nada.

Evidently, the AWS data centers in the UAE handle a lot of the book traffic and pages. Shoppers kept getting the "we can't find that page" with a photo of a dog (Amazon's cute way of being annoying)

That doesn’t look good for Amazon. They should have this distributed and replicated around the world with the default „target“ for a request the closest server, failing over to other servers of that one is not working. A single point of failure for Amazon is a bad look.

purifying water
I agree with that. You are going to run out sooner or later. Then you are going to have to replenish on your own if the city doesn't put out a water truck. Then you'll still want to purify it anyway.

You are going to need water for flushing the toilet, so a bucket and a scoop for that.

I told my wife and kids if we have a giant earthquake again, fill the tub up with water.

I have 4 25# propane bottles and stoves and a rice cooker that I can use with it. The solar stuff that I have in the shed keeping the pond going will get plumbed back into the house with my inverter. Shut off the main gas valve, cut mains power coming in, and shut all breakers to all rooms with the exception of the kitchen and living room.

Wil be attempting a meatloaf on the weber tomorrow. I will do the charcoal snake and use this thing to regulate the temp.
TIP TOP TEMP.jpeg

It was cheap and surprisingly works pretty well. All it has is a heat spring thing and adjusts the throttle as temps go up and down. Use it all the time. First set up is a bit tedious, but once you get it in the ballpark, you can leave it alone. I use a remote 2 channel temp sensor for the food and for the heat chamber.

I hope you have better luck than I have getting your BM order. My order was supposed to ship February 5. They never responded to emails and when I would call they would say it was going out in a day or two. They sent me a tracking number last Friday showing it finally shipped March 2, but it seems to be stuck in a MA ups facility.

Their products are great, but their level of service is a Charlie Foxtrot.
well lets hope so.
They made a Facebook post yesterday, about snowstorm and stuff. so the delivery is delayed.
But we will see how long it takes in the end. i have time and are not in high need for the kit. but i will let you know how long it took them :)

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with loaves of meat

It's Troy again.

Burgers are thawing in the fridge since today is supposed to get to the low 70s. But with pop-up thunderstorms right about grilling time.

Saw on the book of faces last evening that the father of a good friend just passed. Funeral is Sat the 14th down in Indy, so it looks like a road trip for the wife and I. Got to go support and do some reconnecting with the friends and his family. Loved going to his father's house most new year's eves for round-robin Euchre games. Lots of munchies, no booze, so every was safe to drive home. And aware enough to look out for the amateur drunks trying to drive.

Not sure what today is going to bring. We've got some good grilling weather days coming up. I might grill a meatloaf next week.

I use the fireboard temp controller on my Kamado. Only mine sits in the lower vent and blows more or less depending on how hot the fire needs to be.

As for the war, digging in to the what-if scenarios, looks like a professor gave a lecture about this very scenario in May 2024 (before the 2024 election), and then a follow up recently. He indicated that the Iranians would be going for the Water De-Sal plants in the region. That will throw the area into heavy chaos, and make the US spend a huge amount of resources protecting those facilities.

Because the professor gets into the socio-politico realm, I won't post the vid, but search for "Geo-Strategy #8: The Iran Trap" on the Predictive History channel if you want to see the hour long lecture to his class.

Good morning early birds............

I went to bed earlier than usual hoping to get up in the morning a bit earlier and I did, right around 3:30 am.

I am hoping to go to Home depot later today to buy a table for my 3D printer. I spent around two hours searching the internet yesterday for something suitable. And maybe later spend some time trying to school myself on FreeCAD.

I did some "prepping" several years ago and now I have to remind myself to search my stash box for canned goods to eat as they are all approaching or are at the end of their "freshness date". Some folks say canned items will last far past the date on the can, but I have noticed a lack of taste in a couple of canned goods only a month past their date. And yes all my stash is kept in a cool dry place.

Talking about voting here, not politics.
I was hoping the voters would wise up and we would have a new state senator but the do nothing incumbent is still in the running.

More bad news for Texas..................

Meanwhile, a much larger project—Project Matador—is under construction about 12 miles northeast of Amarillo. Led by Fermi America, co-founded by former Texas Governor and U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry, this 11-gigawatt AI data center campus will span nearly 6,000 acres and integrate nuclear, solar, wind, and natural gas power. It is currently facing community scrutiny over environmental and water concerns, particularly related to the Ogallala Aquifer.
This thing is supposed to have 6 nuclear reactors to run 6 giant turbine generators to supply electricity. To put this into perspective, it would generate enough electricity to run 2 cities the size of New York.
And the water problem here in west Texas is critical. It has not rained here in almost 5 months except for what we got during that cold blast some weeks back. Some stock ponds around my area are at 1/3 now and dropping.
And the area around Amarillo is the largest cotton producing area in the United States. Farmers say that a water shortage there would cut production by 75%. Of course the data center folks say they will only use a small amount of water and that water will be recirculated over and over with the use of retention ponds. What those city slicker dumb a$$ have failed to consider is it gets HOT in the Spring, Summer and Fall in Texas and evaporation of water in those ponds will require they use more and more water.
Data Centers don't sustain life........water and crops do !

Oh well, maybe I'll find time to run a train and do a bit of kit building I had put on hold.

SWAL.....Get well soon!

Willie......At least you didn't have a "Ken Patterson" moment on your layout from that runaway locomotive. Sure could have been worse than just some worn down wheels.

Everybody have a great day.........John

Good morning gang!

44° under cloudy skies temps today expected to be in the mid 50s with the chance of rain around evening rush-hour.

Western Maryland Railway historical Society meeting tonight, I’ve been promised a peak at the new steam decals that the society is preparing to produce. They actually asked me to take a look at them and recommend any edits. I can’t wait to see them as I have a half a dozen Western Maryland steam locomotives in brass that need paint jobs.
