It seems that the answer is it depends on the type of beer. Wheat beers (like is popular in Bavaria) are served warmer while Lager and Pilsner are chilled.
As I understand it Ales are served warm.

When I worked at Memorial Stadium a Brew Master from Anheuser-Busch told me "Lagers are best at 45 degrees Fahrenheit, but most American prefer it colder."

In draft beer systems with long runs in the lines, colder is better for serving of the beer without excessive foam. Therefore I kept the temperatures below 40.

Pilsners are my favorite Lagers in the hot days of summer and the colder the better in my book! A true German style lager is best in the winter, and I like to let it sit for a few minutes after taking it out of the refrigerator.

Good morning! It's 48°F and mostly clear in Tipton. Have a great day.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with larger lagers and pillsy pilsners

It's Troy again.

Wife is an a NO caffeine kick (for her, I don't mind it, hence the coffee). So we went to BurgerFi... because she wanted a burger. And they have one of those soda machines with all the varieties inside and the touchscreen to dispense caffeine-free whatever beverage she desires.

Only, it was out of order... only plain coke, diet coke and regular sprite available...

So we ended up at the new Riviera Maya mexican place that took over the abandoned P F Chang's (If I remember correctly) that closed during the pandemic. It wasn't bad. Upper-scale Midwest Mexican (eg TexMex but with less spice).

I got the fajitas, and wife got a beef quesadilla:

Mex 2.jpg

After tip it was about double going to the hole-in-the-wall place. But I got take-home boxes for the fajitas. Only ate about half. So, lunch today.

In burger news, I noticed a story in the Washington Post that the burger chain Steak N Shake is making political moves in their marketing. They appear to be targeting a demographic based on politics. Pity. I like my food without politics. But they are cooking their shoestring fries in beef tallow now.

I'm not a fan of shoestring fries, though I did like their shakes and smashburgers.

Wife doesn't like their fries either. So we'll not be visiting them, despite having one a couple of miles from home. Culvers is closer. BurgerFI just a bit farther. And a 5-guys in between. We don't need a shoestring fries place.

Today is supposed to start off well weather wise. But turn windy. I'll be smoking Italian sausages on the kamado. Wife is going to make a Kraft Dinner (mac-n-cheese) to accompany them.

And, it's warm and sunny enough later that I can drag the cat's pooping palace outside for a good scrubbing and hose-out. The litter robot is great, but I like to do a quarterly cleaning on it. Over the winter, it goes an extra month, and it needs it.

Morning all,

Currently 57° and clear, going for a high of 72°. We're under a high wind and fire warnings as wind gusts this afternoon are expected in the 55+ mph range and humidity in the teens makes any fire move quickly, and the Kansas Flint hills are kind of like the west coast in that they are hard to get into if a wildfire gets started.

I have to take 55 hours off before May 10th. I know Poor me...lol. In looking at some possible drives, I was thinking about picking back up Rt 66 from Tucumcari, New Mexico and headed west. Part of my planning is to look at gas pricing. To the California border gas within $0.50 of what I'm paying locally, then one hits California...more than double the local price. I guess the California part of that trip may not happen.

Probably have another staycation anyway as I may need to hold whatever cash I can.

Troy: That Mexican food looks good. Like your wife, mine is getting on a no caffeine kick as well.

that food looks nice!

so friday, found some time yesterday evening, did some small work on my H0 diorama.

Good Morning All. Clear and 64°, headed up to 79° with a high wind advisory. Westerly winds will turn from the NW tomorrow afternoon and the overnight low Saturday will drop to 40°. We'll return to the 80's for a few days and then repeat mid-week.

Noted on the grocery trek yesterday, that after a week, gasoline returned to $2.69/gal after last week's surprising $2.89/gal. Of course I needed it last week! Prior to that, my wife added some items to the grocery list while I was showering. She chose to stay home with the granddogs. I questioned the items and she said that she was going to make a birthday cake for daughter's 46th birthday luncheon that we were going to on Sunday. As nicely as I could, I questioned how we were going to take a cake when we would have two loose (but tethered) granddogs, a doggy travel crate used as a sleeping crate, two 3' x 4' doggy beds, a 25 lb bag of dog food and 2 doggy accessory bags in the car with us! We crossed her extra items off the list.
On the subject of granddogs, one of them dragged home an animal part yesterday.
IMG_0523.JPG

Appears to be a deer paw from a pretty large animal. The broken end matches a bone that they brought home Sunday. I assume that the leg itself was dragged here by coyotes, since I haven't seen or heard of a dead one close by. There is a wooded area about 1/4 mile south that they pass through on their way to the Corps of Engineer's flood control lake across the road.

Too soon to tell what today might bring. The only certain thing is fish tacos for supper. Being Spring, there is no shortage of outside projects to choose from.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I added the mortar wash to the next three walls of the new structure. It looks marginally better. Then I added the coping. I also painted the trim around the top of the walls, I forget what it is called. Cornice maybe???

Set it up next to it's neighbor to ascertain where to set figures. I've done buildings separately before, and had people posed to walk right into each other.

The only thing left besides figures is plumbing vent pipes on the roof. Later today hopefully.

Tom O - Is there an informal competition between the two buddies selling the weathered freight cars?;)
Louis - I keep my beer fridge at 38°.

As Terry posted, Happy Pi Day. It's also the late Albert Einstein's 145th birthday.
Everyone have a great Friday.

Good morning to all you beer drinkers from this not enjoyer of a glass with beer in it. On the rare occasion I’ll try a beer it’s got to be frosty almost frozen cold. I just never acquired the taste. Terry though likes an American beer. Miller, Miller Light, Pabst, Spotted Cow and Coors light are all in the cooler behind the bar. For you non beer drinkers, hi!

So. Central Wisconsin is warm! 53f degrees now heading to 78 and the weather guesser on the local media outlook Terry watches in the morning says 80+ is a real possibility. Terry runs the TV through her blue tooth hearing aides so I don’t hear the sound. I occasionally will look up and see the close captioning she also use. It rained overnight but I cannot find anywhere how much we received and I have not checked the manual collector outside the front door. The severe weather per radar is coming after dark tonight.

Yesterday was a good weathering bench day, see both Continuous weathering threads if you have any interest to see what’s happening on my bench.

Terry and I headed to campus last night at 7pm to watch the Boston University versus Clarkson in Women’s hockey. Neither of us were impressed by the playing we were watching. The Badgers will play the winner, it was Clarkson, Saturday afternoon. They have to play the game but other than the Clarkson goalie building a wall in her goal crease I can’t see Clarkson being competitive. But they have to play and we’ll see what happens.

A haircut at 9:30. A car wash after and then some time at the weathering bench is my day coming up

Enjoy yours

Oh, that sounds good!

We have a Steak and Shake place on Veterans Highway in Millersville. We have passed it many times. We have never been, but I want to, even more now to get those fries!

I save my beef fat for frying. The high smoke point (400F) makes it excellent for frying and it adds a great flavor.

Businesses should stay out of politics. That is my opinion. After this week, Elon might agree with me.

Willie, no competition! What they sell they sell…

Somewhere down the tracks I’ll do some sort of compensation

I don't know if it's nationwide, but our local Steak-n-Shakes have removed the host/hostess, and cashier, and you have to order from a kiosk. Then you wait for the number of your order and take it to your table. It eliminates at least three employees, and their prices still have gone up.
I used to go there for the service, and making me do three employees' jobs while paying more money means it will be an exceedingly rare instance before I return.

It is happening all over the place here. Shoppers having to do all the work whilst the owners make more profit

I would say that is perfect for your fine Pilsner beer, Heineken. It won't take long for the Texas heat to raise the temperature. To borrow from Maxwell House, you should be good to the last drop.

At one time I thought Heineken was a Malt Liquor. I misread the label. It is a Lager made from Malt, a Pilsner in fact. No wonder I like it so much.

Same here. Pretty much every place is going to the self check-out kiosks. If you have an issue at check out, good luck finding an employee to help you resolve it. They are probably all in the back playing cards or something.
At the restaurants I was referring to, there is a cook/manager, and somebody to clean the tables. That's all the employees.
I was there at noon, and there were two other customers in the building. Getting rid of help because they were losing money seems to have started a cycle.

Good morning all!

Going to be a fairly nice day today. Were supposed to get into the 80s today. Winds are supposed to be pretty high this afternnon. There are several warnings up since yesterday. Supposed to be severe thunderstorms late tonight.

Volleyball season is over for us. The girls lost a heartbreaker in 3 last night. The two teams were so evenly matched. All 3 games went to the wire.

A busy day today. Got the last load of laundry in the dryer. I have my 6 month dental check up/cleaning later this morning.

Have a dafe day everyone!
