Good Afternoon All. Windy and more windy, between 22 mph and 30 mph steadily. Apparently they were much worse last night in the part of Dallas County (northern suburbs) that we were in today. My #1 daughter's fence along with those of many neighbors were blown asunder... they couldn't get out because their gate was blocking the alley. Other daughter still has no power, it's out all over the place. There are reports of 70 mph winds in both of their neighborhoods. No issues at the car dealership, but when I arrived at Discount Model Railroads, there was a sign on the door indicating that they were closed due to no power. So we went to Trader Joe's and spent money there. Called Discount from TJ's parking lot when we were finished, and they just got their power back on and were now open. Went back and used my gift certificate plus some. Complete report tomorrow.
I'm 185 miles from Dallas area and miss having the convenience of going to Discount Model Trains. Last visit there was after the Plan Train Show a few months back.

Well howdy there internet peeps, and those with esteemed visitors to your layouts

I had a bunch of MRR notables show up today.

From left: NMRA Prez Gordy, Ron of Ron's Trains, Gerry Leone, David Popp, Lucy the much maligned- but doing a great job social media manager for the NMRA, Tony K, and the Minister of Silly Walks.

The squares on the grid are 1-inch. I always forget how small N Scale is at 1:160

And I was expecting Mini-Prints to sneak in before the Tariffs hit. Bernard has been posting that they're tariff free. Figured out how: He's got either shipping or manufacturing in NY. I was expecting Royal Canadian Mail, not USPS.

I thought the exemptions were on anything under $800USD. Called “de miimus”

But I can see that Sanborn, NY is not too far from the border for Bernard to cross over and use the USPS. I know that Pacific Western Rail Systems does that and they are in Surrey, BC, Canada.

Good evening everyone

Just sitting here enjoying all the reading from this great forum and listening to the wind blow outside (31mph with gusts up to 58mph). Might get some rain or snow but doubt it will amount to much.

Been a lazy day for me. Just been working on a couple of projects (see pictures) was cooking spareribs on the smoker for supper. Other than that been reading a few model magazines and checking in here now and then.

Ya'll have a great evening and keep dry, warm, and in my case grounded so I don't blow away 😁 😁

It’s a lot cheaper to ship domestically in any case. I’ve done business with a model train company in BC but they ship from Washington state somewhere to US addresses and last summer I bought a smart garage door controller from a company in Canada but it shipped from a NY address. So it’s not just tariff avoidance.

@santafewillie your box with all the figures is great, and now i know how i will manage my figures! i have a box like this laying around. thnx for the inspiration :D

@troyphoto miniprints is awesome, i also had some orders from him. doing great things. maybe i will place a order with some detail things in the future. shipping from the us to switzerland is still a bit expensive, so i wait till i make a bigger order :)

Morning all,

As kgstakes said last night, listening to the winds blow and hearing the fence loose a couple of sections overnight. I'm about 55 miles east of him and while I saw some snow about 8:00 last night, it amounted to "Snow?...What snow?" it was 36° as it was coming down.

Currently 35° and clearing, still under a high wind warning for the next couple of hours.

I've noticed we're getting busier in the IT department and today will be starting off in a bit as I have to meet with county personnel to do some reconfiguration of "lights and tones" at our #2 fire station. "Lights and tones" for the non firefighter is the station alerting system that notifies the particular station it is being called out. It turns on the station lights if they're off and sounds tones to waken the firefighters. We're moving the system from the local cable provider (county system) to our fiber network. The cable company has experienced numerous outages over the past few months (never mind their ads touting reliable internet), and the firefighters are getting tired of staying up all night.
