Afternoon All,

Started out the day at 66F and clear (so much for the scheduled rain). Started with chores then headed to the train room. I scrapped the open area again then cut sheet styrene for roads and parking lots. After that I put 2 coats of rattle can flat black on the pieces. Tomorrow I will glue the pieces on the layout.

Hughie- Heck, I model the Pennsy and don't have a GG1 or a K4 for that matter.

Karl- Great looking motive power.

Bill- Nice photo.

David- Great layout shots.

Sherrel- Very sorry to hear of your and Kate's issues. I hope you both get well quickly.

Willie- Nice scenes and detailing.

Tom in MO- Sorry to hear about your Lionel issues.

I hope everyone has a good night.
What would life be without an occasional PITA (think: hemorrhoid)! This too shall pass . . .

Been thinking of Pennsylvania and driving the Turnpike from the eastern entrance (driving south on the New Jersey Turnpike many "moons" ago) all the way to the New Stanton interchange - had many more tunnels back then (1961-2) than today. Once off the pike, continued thru West Virginia to Ohio on route 22 to Cincinnati . . . used to make that drive (13 hours) only stopping for gas and pit-stops.

I did take the PRR from PennStation in NYCity to Cincinnati on a round-trip brought about by being in a shipmate's wedding. That is where I met my soon-to-be - in 1961. The Keystone State - politics aside - has always been a special place for me.

Later,

Tom in Missouri

G’day (again) - A mugga Joe, black with a “splash” of JD if you please; yes - black label.

Second period ended with my Blues on the short end of a 3-2 score against the Wild of Minnesota. Both teams are trying to get a wild-card slot in the upcoming playoffs - 16 team “tournament” - 8 from each Conference.

I recall when that format began - back when there were just 21 teams and 16 “made it.” At least today with 32 teams it makes a bit more sense.

Don't know if I will be back later on - so, take care, stay safe and enjoy your trains!

I leave you with this:

I guess I am multi-tasking, although that definition for “ancient mariners” such as Moi is nothing new:
Old people multi-task daily - when one sneezes and pees at the same time!

Tom in Missouri

P.S. My Blues won in OT, 5-4!

Good afternoon gang!!

Sherrel, I really hope Kate is ok, you two have enough on your plates without these shenanigans!

Patrick, watch the BP! We don't need you popping a gasket on us!

Met my one older sister for coffee at noon. We haven't seen each other for about 15 months ago when our Aunt passed. Yet we live 35-40 minutes apart. We've tried, but something always comes up. So we got to spend 2 hours or so catching up on family stuff and Sharon and I will be at her place for dinner soon. We both are trying to get to do more family functions not only for our sakes, but for our kids and grandkids who really don't see much of each other anymore. We are also going to start working on the oldest sister (in N.C.) to resolve a rift between her and Son#3 that has always been the "elephant in the room" at previous family functions. Son #3 has extended an olive leaf to her but she will not accept it. She is Ms Church lady but cannot forgive him for previous things that he did when he lived with her. Stupid teenage stuff is all I'll say, but he's 28 and totally mended his way. I don't get it .

Then I made a trip to the new Harbor Freight store near me. I needed cut off wheels and plastic/vinyl gloves, came home with more than that!😉

Someone on another forum informed me I could be arrested for defacing money, and it was a Federal offense, for gluing pennies inside a boxcar.
After a little research, which basically involved me contacting the Secret Service, I was told that:
1--they have more important things to do than arrest people for using some coins for other than their intended purpose, and,
2--as long as the glue comes off without destroying the coin, it is not considered defacement.
Thanks

Well we had our question answered regarding last night's fireworks show that I described in this morning's post. My wife was on the local (to us) Facebook page and many others had seen it and inquired about it. Then a person posted that it was a wedding and that they had attended. The bride was a local rancher's daughter and the reception was on their ranch just up the hill and around the corner. The person confirmed my estimate of 350 fireworks and said that the scuttlebutt at the reception was that the fireworks alone had cost $50K. Posted that there was a professional team of 4 that put on the display. That was in addition to the food, drink and live band for the reception held inside a very large tent set up for the occasion.
17 years ago the daughter got married. She wanted fireworks and for a joke I priced them out. $10,000 PER 15 minutes, with a 30 minute minimum. But, we also had to have a Milwaukee fire department crew in case of for $10,000 per 30 minutes with a minimum of 1 hour. So at least $$40 grand! I decided not to and told the daughter. we didn’t tell her the cost estimate. Also said I’ll do it and pay for the wedding but there will be no separate gift (check) from her mom and me. She was fine with a check. At 9pm the fireworks starting going off in the same spot ours would have been but of course for a different venue and wedding. Daughter comes up and thanks me. I told her to enjoy them! I didn’t tell her they weren’t her fireworks till she returned from the honeymoon! At Christmas a few weeks later the SIL asked me what I was quoted and I told him then. He had a friend/college roommate getting married at the same venue and they were going to try to outdo our wedding fireworks. I said why didn’t you tell them the fireworks weren’t for you guys? He said why should he spoil the fun!

Good afternoon. We are back from going to the #1 chicken wing place recently voted on in Wisconsin. I got the original wings and 2 hours after finishing can finally feel my lips again. The wings were good, the chicken tenders/strips were excellent and the grandson’s cheeseburger per him and his grandmother was out of this world! The shared onion rings were outstanding, the shared French fries were good and if you go Chicken Licks in Sun Prairie, Wi., don’t bother ordering the cheese curds as they were barely ordinary! A true dive bar and with 3 beers and free soda for the grandkids was a decent $150 for 6! Not quite sure how it’s ranked #1 but it was fine+ food wise . No table service and bus your own table which was interesting and it was packed to the gills. Will we go back? The son in law said not until Fall/Winter hockey season. The Sun Prairie ice arena with 2 rinks is less than a mile away. They have gone a number of times after the grandson’s game there before noon (open at 11) and it’s not been crowded.

I’ve recovered from the mini food coma and am heading to the weathering bench. Time to inspect, clean and clear coat 3 box cars, a tank car, 5 auto racks and 21 well cars.

enjoy the evening

Good Afternoon!
And it's a cool afternoon that won't let up with the flurries. The mercury is at 21F, but, it's that darn windchill that bites.

Sherrel - Sorry to hear about Kates plight with the fall. It's a relief that she's on the mend, though, even if the hospital is abusive.
Hospitals stink these days. They promised to fix my hernia a year ago, and I'm still waiting for the surgeon. I feel like he's not going to call me until my guts are laying out on the road.
Patrick - You better start taking it easy and make changes if your blood pressure is up. That's nothing to ignore.
Willie and Jaz - We don't need a pitcher at the sink; there's water handy in the toilet. - Actually, I'm going to tile the shower surround first, then install all the plumbing fixtures. That includes the taps.

Today is house cleaning chores for me, but, I couldn't resist splashing some paint on the wood-shop structure. I'm trying the paint before I cut parts off their carrier:
Woodshop_03-23-2024 (2).JPG
Later this evening, I'll try putting some parts together.
I've got a feeling this little building is going to go together fairly quick. That is, unless I go nuts with opening doors, interior lights and tools, and actually placing wood-workers in there. I'm already thinking it will need a small dust collection unit somewhere exterior.

Enough yap! I'll see you later.

The rabbit hole instigator is all together and back on the shelf. It was missing a track roller and a couple of sheaves, along with having one off the ears broken off the shovel. That latter issue took a couple of tries. After whittling out a fairly accurate replacement from brass, the first attempt was to just JB Weld it in place. Nope. For the second go around, I drilled a couple of .020" holes through the ear flanges and into the shovel proper and pined/JB Welded it in place. The sheaves and roller were machined out of brass also.

For a little history, I purchased that model new from the local Caterpillar dealer (Nash Davis Company) in 1957. I think it was $14, a really lot of money for a 12 year old kid with a $0.25 a week allowance. Also, photos of the Reuhl D7, which I can blame for all the rabbit hole experience. That was my No 10 birthday present from my father, 1955. The scraper was the last one of these I purchased, right after Reuhl's change of ownership. The connection with the Nash Davis Company began with my father purchasing a 12 inches to the foot model of a 1937 Caterpillar 22. That machine was apparently being used to skid logs and became frozen down in the mud overnight. Instead of trying to thaw it out, a muscled extraction was attempted, the result being a broken pinion and ring gear. It was disassembled and never reassembled. When my father bought it, in something that would NEVER occur today, the Nash Davis Company let him use a corner of the shop over the winter to put it back in service and of course, those enticing Reuhl models were on the shelf.

Good evening. It's clear and 80.
I just attempted to watch a video on Y-Tzube, and discovered to my chagrin, I now am being forced to sign in, and perform a search for what I am looking for, so Google can capture my data. The entire home page for Youtube is blank, with nothing but a "sign in to view" prompt.

Come to think of it, I had to sign into my YouTube account when viewing it from the big TV upstairs, but when you have a Google account, it's easy. Get with the program buddy, everything is going Google. Even the new GM cars all come with Google and you must have a Google account to access a lot of the goodies in the infotainment system. Don't fight it, join it and enjoy!

A lot of people already know a lot about you. They already know how you vote in elections. Know where you shop and how much. Know your hobbies. Know where you are. Know when you go on holiday and where. Know what you watch on television and the music you listen to. Know how much money you have and how much debt. And much more.

Sixty (60) years ago I signed a piece of paper. From then on if I said something I shouldn't I would be put in jail.
A piece of plastic in your wallet says 98% about you.

Sleepy Morning ... dark and cloudy at 47 degrees; only supposed to be 56 for a high with showers.
Winter does not seem to want to go into hiding?

The Spousal Unit seems to be fine - she went with her sisters to see the oldest GS in a band competition up near Fullerton (wherever that is) and plans to go back for the finals today.
The band came in second yesterday - it was cold and rainey most of the afternoon.

My back is much better this morning although I did just take a Tramadol pill a few minutes ago.
Today's medical happens to be an injection to bring up my WBC which is almost non-existence.
This will be the third injection in a matter of three days.

Bill, that is a great photo!

Stay safe everyone! BBL

There's nothing wrong with trying to throttle some of the data being siphoned from you.

Good morning all you cool cats and kittens!

Flo, can we please have a big stake of flapjacks with a side of bacon and a large coffee? Oh and a fruit cup too, I want to eat healthy!

It’s only 28 degrees outside, where did spring go? Another good day for indoor activities.
