Do you live next to an abended rail line in NY. There's a suit going on where we live concerning the old New Heaven Beacon rail line that is now a NY rail trail. The line runs about 2 miles from my house but runs right by one of my golf friend's house and Trump National Golf Club. My friend lives right next to the golf course.

Homeowners in Dutchess and Putnam counties sued the federal government last month, claiming they became the rightful owners of property along the Beacon Line's right-of-way after Metro-North declared in December it no longer had any use for it. It seems that if it's no longer a rail line the property goes back to the landowners.

Trump owns property along the line I'm wondering if he's also involved in the suit?
You can see where the rail line runs along the bottom of the golf course in the below attachment.

Spousal Unit, KATE, had an unintended fall yesterday which required 6 staples in her head!
She was "shuffling" boxes around from the kitchen re-do and forgot about the one directly behind her - falling backwards and hitting the door frame.
I have no idea why they call it "Emergency" - she was there for over 1.5 hours before they even looked at her (not a Kaiser facility) - total time at the hospital for her was almost 6 hours for x-rays, a scan, and the staples? Thank GOD that she is repaired and feeling OK this AM!

In the meantime, I pulled all the "stuff" from underneath the stove soes I could make a photo for the plumber's estimate - a 3/4" gas line ( 1/2" now) will have to come from where the furnaces are located in the attic above the second floor. Well, I managed to get the photo AND while trying to get up my legs did a split and I did a number on my back as bad as I have ever had. Took two Tylenol but did not phase it - loocated the strong stuff from the Chemo and popped one down - somewhat better now. It hurts immensely sitting down, laying down, and any other position I try to relieve it.

Stay tuned - there may be more today? 🤪

That is the exact same scenario I had with my wife when she fell and put a nice gash on the back of her head. ER for 6 hours for a 5 minute clean and staple job. One can argue those places are just as dysfunctional as certain legislative bodies.

Morning folks

The dog stroll last night was a little later than usual at 3:30 am. It was crystal clear and the moonlight might have even been romantic if in other company and something warmer than 24F. It remains 24 but with moderately dense fog now. Tomorrow looks to be another dose of winter. A lot of chores on the plate this morning but hopefully some time at the bench this afternoon.

Good morning ALL!!!!
Prayers and positive vibes for those in need, myself included.
Bill, loved the way you opened the door this morning.
Flo, I'm just having rye toast with jam please.
And a large coffee with the standard quart of Irish Cream. o_O
Maybe two pieces of candied bacon too. Thanks.

Good (late) afternoon all. Afternoon tea with Darjeeling please, Flo.
Son, daughter and grandchildren have gone home. Dawn is feeling well. A good day all round.

Sherrel & Kate. Visits to hospital are not recommended. A speedy recovery.

Going to the train room for an hour or so.

It had to do my Lionel LionChief Polar Express freight set that had some missing items. After contacting Amazon about this they referred me to Lionel - the manufacturer. I totally "got it" regarding the fact that Amazon is the "middle man" in a sale like this.
The problem with dealing with Amazon, Walmart and some other large retailers is they are not traditional Authorized Lionel Dealers.

Amazon and others negotiate high volume deals with Lionel. In doing so they agree to handle all returns for the duration of their stated return policy. The upside is the deep discounts, sometimes as much as 50% off list price. The downside is customer service representatives don't always know their responsibility. In your case Amazon should not have referred you to Lionel.

Problem is getting past the fact that it was not purchased directly from Lionel.l Oh well.
Purchasing from traditional Authorized Lionel Dealers is treated the same as buying direct from Lionel as far as warranty and support goes. Even though Amazon is not a traditional Authorized Lionel Dealer, I suspect Lionel will still offer you some kind of support.

I failed to mention this in my previous post. Sometimes all you need to do is to reset the LionChief locomotive and tender by removing them from the track or powering down the track. It is a computer, a small one, but the idea is the same.

In the worst case you could ask Lionel for an RA # and pay a fee to get it corrected or deal with it as it is.

Again, I'm sorry to hear about your problem and I wish you all the best in solving it.

When I was in high school, two kids decided to go at it for a typical teenage reason (no good reason). In the course of the altercation, one of the delinquents grabbed a staple gun, put it against delinquent #2's forehead, and stapled the kid's forehead three times. Delinquent #2 took extreme offense to that, tore the staple gun out of delinquent #1's hand, and proceeded to beat him with it. Both kids ended up at the emergency room, then detention for two weeks...
I don't remember if the staple gun survived.

Once again, thanx for picking up on my issue . . . never intended to "air" all of this in the Ether, but I did! The Coffee Shop is that kinda place, dontchano?!?

Down in my re-named train room (Tom's Lion's Den) to try again with the announcement features from my Lionel LionChief Polar Express passenger set - oddly enough, the announcements picked up where they had left off; and all I had "contributed" to this oddity was securing the power since yesterday's visit. Anyway, the train ran the oval for a few loops and then when I re-tried - announcements got "stuck" again.

Following your advice, I cleaned the loco and tender electric-connections - teeny tiny as they are - put 'em back on the track; no change. However, the announcements that do sound are sufficient for my needs - "This is the Polar Express" and "All aboard" is fine with me. I can live with that - and will.

Then I connected all three (03) LionChief sets to my Android fone (those sets are BlueTooth "friendly") and all one has to do is download the free app from Lionel - and once again, "And Bob's your Uncle." The reason I tried this was to find out if the sound settings on the app would be the same, better or worse. No change. But it was a bit of fun operating those sets using my fone.

As an aside: I am not a fan of "smart fones" at all. I understand, appreciate and use them only when the need arises (ie: emergency situation whilst away from home.) All the rest of it - addictive nature, etc. ain't for me. Now of course, with the ability to use my fone while operating trains sets me up to be a hypocrite. However, I have no plans to become one and will operate them as I had - using the remotes provided with the sets. Yeah, still have Dinosaur tendencies and am enjoying the Tar Pits.

Your comments regarding Amazon, Walmart and Lionel are spot-on; am in total concurrence with it all. Should the need arise to where I want to exercise my "rights" under the one-year-warranty I most definitely will. But for now - I am letting the "sleeping dog lie."

Hockey game in an hour!

Thanx again - Tom in Missouri

Not wishing (or wanting) to come across as an "authority" with regard to abandoned/unused rail rights-of-way, I offer this:
Some decades ago I became very involved in an effort to extend this area's light-rail system into where I reside - "far" west St. Louis County, MO.

While what I have to offer does not necessarily address the reversion of former rail property to the "original" landowners - there is a connection of sorts; read on . . .

I was part of a 400-member Coalition comprised of individuals and organizations supportive of our efforts; they titled me: Executive Director. (ha)

We had identified a former rail route that 'could' be linked with the light-rail-system. Much more to the story - but I will leave it at that.

Wow! Did we ever get an awakening with regard to what may appear to be "easy-peasy" but no where near it. Enter the federal government and its Surface Transportation Board (STB). Plenty of reading-matter "out there" without the need for me to expound further.

For what it is worth - our effort failed, not necessarily because of them but primarily because of our politically charged "Council" that passes judgment on all-things-transportation. We could not get past "Go" with them and to this day still have a "bitter taste."

Afternoon All,

Started out the day at 66F and clear (so much for the scheduled rain). Started with chores then headed to the train room. I scrapped the open area again then cut sheet styrene for roads and parking lots. After that I put 2 coats of rattle can flat black on the pieces. Tomorrow I will glue the pieces on the layout.

Hughie- Heck, I model the Pennsy and don't have a GG1 or a K4 for that matter.

Karl- Great looking motive power.

Bill- Nice photo.

David- Great layout shots.

Sherrel- Very sorry to hear of your and Kate's issues. I hope you both get well quickly.

Willie- Nice scenes and detailing.

Tom in MO- Sorry to hear about your Lionel issues.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Afternoon all,

Well, I now now know what the day will bring...

Spent 4 hours in the ER this morning. My blood pressure spiked and the wife was concerned I was having some serious issues. Still high, but low enough they sent me home and told to monitor it.

No intervention required, but still not feeling well. Gotta take it easy until I can see my Dr on Monday.🙁

I have zero experience in this area and can only imagine the shear mount of hurdles that has to be cleared in order to get something like this done!

Your brave for even trying! :D

Well we had our question answered regarding last night's fireworks show that I described in this morning's post. My wife was on the local (to us) Facebook page and many others had seen it and inquired about it. Then a person posted that it was a wedding and that they had attended. The bride was a local rancher's daughter and the reception was on their ranch just up the hill and around the corner. The person confirmed my estimate of 350 fireworks and said that the scuttlebutt at the reception was that the fireworks alone had cost $50K. Posted that there was a professional team of 4 that put on the display. That was in addition to the food, drink and live band for the reception held inside a very large tent set up for the occasion.
