That did it! Brought back many, many memories of the GG1.

From childhood rail trips powered by those monsters to viewing 'em up close 'n personal at rail museums to purchased HO models (two in Tuscan and two in Brunswick Green; two had multiple striping and two had one solid. All were in my wall-mounted Acrylic HO display cases.

And - sad to say, there are no plans to expand my Lionel collection - as tempting as it can be (and is!).

Thanx,

Good morning from a snow filled landscape in So. Central Wisconsin. It was snowing when we were getting out of the theater last night at 10:20pm but it melted as it hit the pavement. 3-7” accumulation was on the weathering guessers app yesterday and the app showed a few minutes ago, that we have received 4”. They do need to look out a window or better yet step outside. We might have 1” and it looks a lot less to me but the flakes floating down are big ones. The school district web-site indicates they are closed for unsafe travel conditions

We saw the musical Mamma Mia last night. I really enjoy the music of ABBA but disliked the movie. I wasn’t looking forward to the musical. But, last night was a joy! It was fun and it really felt like ABBA singing up there on stage. It did bring back memories of the 70’s.

Yesterday enroute to the op session we were notified the owner tested for Covid. So, my friend and I turned around with me dropping him back home. I went home, Terry and I had breaksfast and her plan was cookie baking so I headed to the trainroom. Did some locomotive weathering, side frames and fuel tank, one side only. Spent time organizing.

It’s a unit due to ship in June so it may get done quickly or not. It’s a fill in project

Today, we are having a hockey/basketball watch party and soup! Starts at 4:30. The watch party is for #2 ranked UW Women hockey in the Frozen 4 in Durham, NH. They are the defending champion, it should be great! Then the Men’s basketball play in the NCAA’s almost right after Women’s hockey. I will have TV monitors for both. The soup! Terry has her top 5 made! Chicken and Wild Rice, Beef Barley, Pumpkin squash, Potato and Chowder. There are 4 others bringing their soups. I have 7 loaves of bread made this week for dunking! Terry said that 41 have responded they will stop by. For the basketball snacks I will be frying french fries, cauliflower, cheese curds and zucchini. We will have a good time no matter the scores.

enjoy the day
That is gorgeous that air vent urgently needs maintenance spot on

Good 9F Morning! I've been shovelling light snow off the walkways for two days. Gotta keep it off, lest the walks turn into skating rinks over the nights freeze.

Aside from shovelling, I did complete building the bathroom reno vanity cabinet, mounted the mirror and the LED light. Touch-up paint required.
Reno.JPG

Sorry for the deep scroll. It's a tight area to photograph, that don't allow for much of a crop.
All that's left to do; flooring, tile the shower, plumbing, trim, and mount the door. Visitors should be able to use it come Autumn.

This is my next layout building. It was a free Inter-Action Hobbies kit that I got last Christmas. Supposed to be Santa's Workshop, but, I'm going to make an undecorated with candy-canes, wood-working shop.

I'll build this in between working on the train station loading dock, which is presently sitting in paint dry mode.

Well, just thought I'd drop in for coffee. To much to do to be sitting around, so I gotta go.
Have a wonderful day!

Back again after gorging on crumb-cake - yeah, a mugga Joe, black - thank you.

The bakery was out of their old fashioned German Crumb Cakes, however they convinced to try another - they call it a Ladue Crumb Cake - named (I think) after an "upscale" neighboring community. Anyway, I bought two (02); one for freezing.

Here is a shot of what it looks like - sprinkled with cinnamon and 5 different freshly ground nuts (Cashews, Filbert Hazelnut, Almonds, Pecans, Walnuts) with a tasty chewy filling made from almonds and pecans. All calories removed - of course!

Brought some good memories. I had a 2-3-2 Lionel loco and a small oval of track, but my best friend had a large layout. He had the milk loader, cattle loader, coal loader, working crossing gates, the one where the little guy pops out the door. His dad was into trains. They had a number of locomotives, one being the GG-1. I was always fascinated by that locomotive.

One more mugga Joe, black please . . .

With all this talk about (the late) Roger Miller and his songs - here is one that I regard as my all-time-favorite, but one that somehow never wound up within his Greatest Hits and/or Compilation CD albums. I had it on vinyl - recorded on mp3 and it "lives" on the discs of several computers.

"The Tom Green County Fair"

You know it's funny how certain things stick with you thru the years,
Like how it fells to be ten years old at the County fair

Hotdog stand,
When you're hungry hotdogs smell so doggone grand
Hoppin' thru the sawdust, runnin' with my brothers
Head to toe we're smilin', at the Tom Greene county fair

Rodeo,
Tom Greene county fairs got one fine rodeo
The cowboys are the greatest, the clown he is so funny
You bust your britches laughing, at the Tom Greene county fair

Well a Sunday at the fair can make a memory more valuable than gold
Especially when you're ten years old

Ferris Wheel,
Just like an airplane in the sky, that's how you feel
Look down and see the people, wave your arms and holler
Everybody's laughing at the Tom Greene county fair

Night time comes,
Up there on the bandstand we see Billy Swan
Everybody's clappin', Mum and Pop are dancin'
Sawdust is a flyin', at the Tom Greene county fair

Well a Sunday at the fair can make a memory more valuable than gold
Especially when you're ten years old

Time to go,
The pickup truck it rattles down the gravel road
And all of us kids sit backwards, lookin' thru the dustcloud
At the lights and the laughter at the Tom Greene county fair

well step right up and see the three eyed malarkey brothers
smoking one big round cigar fresh from Havana,
see the one legged chicken do the footrace with a sack of....

Good Morning All!

43F @ 69% and partly. Did not see any snow/rain the weather guessers were ..um.. guessing.

We caught ABBA last year. Like some, the songs were great but to us the movie has a lot to be desired.
Maria has always likes to dance to *most * of their stuff.
Speaking of dancing:

I had a fish that could break dance. for 30 seconds tops and only once!

Eye exam went okiedokie. Finally was able to see proper about noon. Made it to Spokane CostCo about 0900 thinking that sometimes they open early. Nope, so we headed to CDA Idaho via the slow road and that CostCo. Had potting soil on sale for $7.78 so we got 6 bags of the stuff. I could barely get the last bag in the cart. 50 Quarts, guess @ 80Lbs per. Ya, had 2 carts. Actually looked like 2 cart day for just about everyone for some reason or another. Go figure.

Thinking of my friend on the other side of the tracks and all this talk of songs stuck in the head. I've had this one stuck off and on for several weeks, but I don't mind. I like this song now more than ever. I lost my friend Charlie when he was only twenty-one, over forty years ago now. His favorite band was Aerosmith.

Good evening all. Grandchildren have arrived. Dawn is entertaining them as Grandmother's can.

Dancing.
Living with my older cousins, both girls, they would take me to (proper) dancing lessons with them. I never did dance with them. I was always paired with an attractive girl who was a couple of years older than me. I am ashamed that I have forgotten her name, but she taught me well; even though I had two left feet at first. Bless her though. Her teaching helped me to dance with other girls as I grew older.

I taught my daughter the basics of dancing. She then went to serious dancing lessons classes on a one to one basis.

Time to make dinner. Hungry kids to feed.

Afternoon All,

Started out the day at 62F and raining (started at 0330) and lasted until about 1100. It's supposed to start again tonight and rain until morning, Today has been busy. I started with chores then had to chauffer MOH around. After lunch I did my normally morning walk since it's supposed to be raining. By the end of it I could feel the humidity building. After getting cleaned up I didn't have the energy to do anything in the train room. Next week I have another major dental appointment and a blood draw for my annual VA appointment.

Louis- That is a great song.

Tom in MO- That crumb cake looks good. My favorite electric is the P5a.

Patrick- Nice acquisitions.

Terry- It is indeed a small world.

Bill- Nice photo.

David- Have fun with the grandchildren. Very nice-looking cars.

Karl- It's good to be on the green side of the grass.

TomO- Great job with the weathering.

Willie- Nice job on the shed. It has a unique shape and I like the metal roofing instead of tar paper.

Guy- Very nice job so far in the bathroom. If your wife is like mine, you will get done a lot sooner than autumn! Neat looking next project. There was someone on another forum that made a diorama out of it being Santa's house/workshop.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Hi Curt,

I do not recall ever seeing the P5a from back-in-the-day times. Although whilst taking the old NH between New London, CT and Grand Central Terminal in NYCity (weekends over a 6-month span) I remember viewing some "odd looking" electrics in the massive NH yard in New Haven.

My now-empty wall mounted acrylic HO display cases contained models of all electrics that powered trains I traveled in - Amtrak livery and of course, PRR GG1's. All sold-off, but fotos and memories remain vivid.

And the crumb cake is delicious - stop by for a slice!

Regards,

Tom in Missouri

@PRR Modeler Curt, I'll take it no update on the rash is good news. I hope all goes as well as possible at the dentist next week.

We are expecting as much as 2.5" of rain tonight and tomorrow. That's a lot at one time for us here in Baltimore.
Just caught the east-coast wx forecast and things look quite grim for your area northwards for a day or more. Good opportunity to take advantage of being housebound with trains!

I have "history" with Baltimore dating back to the late 1940's and into later decades.

You may not wish to believe this (or even envision it) but I used to dive off the old United Fruit pier in the harbor for a swim with the kids I met while staying and visiting with my Merchant Marine father whose ship made Baltimore homeport. Yeah - lots of good Baltimore memories.

Will share bits-at-a-time with future visits.

Dont know about your area, but they totally got our forcast wrong. We were supposed to get 1-3" overnight into this morning and just had just enough to wet the road and a few white patches on the ground,

Most has melted off since the temps are a couple degrees above freezing.
I think most of our local snow arrived after I posted this morning. My driveway, very flat terrain has about 4-5” of the white stuff. We have guests coming in about 90 minutes so I am going out to clean the driveway. The sidewalks are clear because of the radiant heat coils.
