Top of the morning to you.

I'm a first generation Irish American. My dad was born in Donegal, Ireland and mom Aberdeen, Scotland. I'm not sure exactly what kind of Irish meal we'll have tonight, but my Italian wife will probably add oregano.

Does anyone understand what's going on with the dual reporting marks? - GATX and BKTY
The only reporting marks are BKTY, a revived reporting mark for the Katy (MKT) railroad. GATX is the name of the leasing company. They sometimes lease freight cars with the GATX reporting marks, but in this case this is a long term lease with Union Pacific (UP) who now owns the Katy and their various reporting marks.
Here is an explanation lifted directly from the Wikipedia page for GATX; check out the last sentence.
GATX's primary freight car reporting marks are:

  • GATX (for tank cars)
  • GACX (for general-service freight cars)
  • GGPX (for coal cars)
  • GIMX (for intermodal cars)
  • GPLX (for plastic pellet cars)
  • GMTX and LLPX (for locomotives)
  • GPFX (for pressure-differential cars)

GATX also owns other marks including GABX, GAEX, GCCX, GFSX, GOHX, GSCX, IPSX, and TRIX including for General American Marks Company and GATX Rail. Many GATX cars carry a large "GATX" logo in the upper corner of the cars regardless of the reporting mark they carry; this logo is applied for marketing reasons and does not have any operational significance.

Happy trip around the sun day to our own Irish-Lass (honorary) Jaz, and anyone else celebrating any anniversary.

Told the wife I wanted our traditional Irish lunch of Pizza Hut. So we did. When we were in Los Angeles, our go-to place for lunch/dinner on holidays was Shakey's pizza. They were open about every holiday. But, no Shakeys back here any more. So, the Hut gets the holiday bus. Even the low-end ones.

On the hobby bench, I'm trying to finish off some tanks. I did forget to add the British Company markings to the front/rear. So, those areas will probably get some more "heavy mud"

I'm trying the Vallejo acrylics weathering pastes. Not bad, but the color of the "thick mud" doesn't cover very well. Looks like I'll be layering it several times. I just added "Splash mud" over it, and extended the area covered. The key is to remember how the tank tracks rotate on top, and splash in the appropriate direction.

Troy: I know that you know, but keep the mud splashes etc. the same scale as the model. Easy to overdo it.

G'day Gents & Ladies (of course),

Just wandered in looking for a hot cuppa Joe with a hefty slice of Apple pie.

I am new to these Forums but hardly a novice when it comes to life in either lane (fast or slow) having been above the ground for all or part of 10 decades, figured I would enjoy what I can while I can.

Now, how about that Coffee and Pie?

Welcome to the Coffee shop Tom. Stop in often!

That's why I'm "Learning" on gaming models. These get heavy wear. So if something is drastically off, I can shrug, and say "It works on the gaming table. Just in case it gets knocked off the table, I'll paint a fresh one, even better."

Ahoy migalyto,

Thanx for the welcome - always nice to find a comfortable place to share a few thoughts amongst like-minded folks.

It is going to take me awhile to catch-up with just this month's submissions - but I plan to. Doubt seriously my efforts will extend further into the past though. So, perhaps someone can fill me in on the "ground rules" around here along with "who is who" in terms of staff.

Later . . .

Afternoon All,

Had a better night last night only having to get up one time to take Benadryl and use the steroid creme. It's been a week today since all of this started. The rash is mainly gone but I still feel some itchiness. The day has been spent doing chores and errands with no train room time. I probably won't get to it tomorrow either since Dad flies in around noon. A buddy of mine that has a Walthers discount account called to say that the new Pennsy Western Region Interlocking Tower is in (only about 12 months overdue). So, I will pick that up on Thursday.

Tom- Happy Birthday to Sienna.

Guy- That's a great catch. Good looking sink area.

Willie- Happy Birthday to your daughter, It sounds like you had a fun time. Nice layout shots.

Louis- Try grilling it. That's the tastiest method of cooking it to me.

Grizzled- Happy Birthday to Jazz.

Tom in MO- Welcome.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Afternoon all,

About 10° cooler today with the wind out of the north. Going for a low tonight near the kill range for the peach blossoms. Hopefully it won't be cold for too long. Temps as far as it goes will be back to the 50's tomorrow and back into the 70's by the middle of the week.

Jaz: Happy Birthday.

Tom in MO: Welcome. This particular thread of the forum is where we talk about things other than just trains, with the exception of Religion and politics.

Willie: This was my old cultivator:

Troy Built TB225. Did ok for the 9'X9' garden spot.

New Machine:

Earthquake MC440 4-cycle cultivator.

It works better and deeper, until you wedge a rock between the tine and upper deck...🤣
Specs are better and it cuts deeper. It is a 10" swath front tine machine. Did a heck of a job on my son's garden spot.
A rear drive machine won't fit my small raised bed space. This machine had better online reviews than most and I knew I didn't want another 2 cycle as they are just harder to work with. My regular lawn mower is a one pull 4-cycle and even after the winter down time started on the first pull. Yes I always put fuel stabilizer in all my gas anymore. The one pull mower and the snow blower both needed new carbs due to fuel issues (yes I failed to empty them before storage). The new tiller says to prep for long term storage by running fuel with stabilizer, which I now do.

Happy Birthday to your daughter. I'm glad to hear the dinner went well. I'm sorry I missed it; I tend to look at the pictures more than read. 🤪

I use an Irish recipe I found online for Corned Beef. I boil it in beer. I use lager rather than Guiness. I don't like Guiness, and I don't care for Corned Beef no matter how it is cooked. Although the beer does make it more palatable.

I look forward to hearing how your fancy French Corned Beef turns out.
Corn beef hash is to kill for especially with brown sauce or a real gravy.
fried potatoes and onions with a late appearance from the beef, not too much fat at first because the corned beef with supplement, salt and pepper, option spices are edible but basic is best, then a drizzle of brown sauce or Brandt on chutney.
simples.

Morning folks

Another cloudless morning and 33F. The forecast high for the day is 52 but it made 53 yesterday so I expect we will best that.

While I was cleaning out the snow in front of the shed yesterday so I could extract the tractor to blade the road, along comes the neighbor on his Kubota doing exactly that. He did a decent job of it but I should still hit a couple of areas with the tractor. Nice to have a few good neighbors. The transplant, gentrified crowd may as well be absent all year. The new Bozeman.

And another birthday. Happy No 5 Jazz.

I did manage to make it all the way to the usual high point on our hiking trail yesterday. But the right knee and both hips were't too happy about it.
