@ kbkchooch Re: your post #402, and that crick' swimmin' thang...

I recognize the guy on the left. The guy wearin' the stripes. He's actor Gert Frobe, from "Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines."

You nailed him, right down to the moustache, yes you did. A ten out of ten there <clap clap clap>.

Love the diner too. :D
He's also Goldfinger from Bond
And in "The Longest Day" about the Normandy landings, he was the Coffee Sergeant for the Geremans

Good Morning All. Currently cloudy and 56°, but it will probably rain lightly a little more this morning. There are thunderstorms to the south but they're moving NE; might get some sprinkles from the outer edge. Rainfall total yesterday was 0.8" that fell over a 20 hour span, so no flooding or runoff. We were on the edge all day. 30 miles south at the TWU station they have gotten 3" in the last 24 hours.

The grocery trek just happened to occur in between the major storms in that area, and I met my SIL to get the granddog while I was there. We always manage to dog-sit when there's rain, so a towel by the door is a necessity. Surprisingly, gasoline prices in Denton have fallen back below $3/gal. But the grocery prices are still inching upwards, and "shrinkflation" seems to be affecting everything. While a pound of meat is still a pound, quantity of a lot of boxed and canned goods has been reduced but still at the same price as the older larger size.
Today, I have to drive the Lexus to Dallas for scheduled maintenance at 10:30. I normally do all of this stuff myself, but we got a year's worth of maintenance for free (supposedly) when we bought the car. To make the trip worth while, I will stop at Discount Model Trains and drop a few Ben Franklins there.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I continued adding headstones in the cemetery until the battery in the portable LED worklight needed recharging. So I advanced on my next selected minor project list of adding trees to the areas that I identified earlier in the week. There are already some in some places, but they are all candidates for more.
First up is either side of the Old Mill Feed & Seed store in the rural area between Charlottesville and Rycon Township.

After adding two untrimmed trees:

On the north side, before:

Then I added a single tree there, also untrimmed:

Yep! I put the hay bale back on the dock where it belonged.
During the course of this improvement, I noted that I never finished the ground cover between the main line and the spur to the feed store.

I'll do this right away since I have my booster stool there right now.

Troy - I have watched a few videos of military modelers before, and I have been really impressed with the way most of them handle the airbrush.
Tom O - The post office must love seeing you walk in the door.
Todd - Interesting story about Jake. I know what you mean about getting behind here on the forum. There's a few threads that I can no longer follow, and a few that get buried pretty quickly.
Grizzled - Coupon shopping isn't too bad for me. I generally only shop at one grocery store. I will not drive from store to store looking for the best deals. As a frequent shopping member, I go to the online coupons and click on the ones that I might use. If I do purchase that item, it is automatically credited. Those coupons are usually good for a month before they expire and can be used multiple times. I don't purchase stuff just because there is a coupon, I just "clip" if it is something I will be getting. There's generally between 400-500 available. On an average trip, I use maybe a dozen.
I am sad to read about your wife's misadventures. You're both in my prayers.
Mac - I wouldn't worry about wood ashes contaminating the water well. Unless you're burning treated or glued wood (plywood, MDF, etc), wood ashes are very safe and they barely leach more than a foot down. I use my wood ashes in my organic garden as a source of Potassium.
Curt - When I purchase new cars, I always make the salesman throw a full size rim into the trunk before I drive off. They never charged me. I then go ahead and pay for a regular tire of my choice for it, and include it in the normal tire rotation.
Thank you for the comment regarding the cemetery.
Sherrel - Keep up the fight. You're doing well if you can eat a chicken-fried steak meal (that's what I call them as well). I make them occasionally, but my wife, who's a born Southern girl, always makes the gravy

Everybody have a great day and a wonderful weekend if that applies. Every day is a weekend after retirement.
Willie, the postal service employees don’t seem to mind me coming in with a lot of pakages. I do have a couple totes from them that I do use. These all had printed and paid labels.

They have gotten me to sign up so I can l pay and print the labels online and order pickup. If I have more then 5 boxes I generally use that but still haul them in. But, I prefer and they know it that I like to bring the packages in. Get’s me out of the house and yesterday’s shipment would have been too big for our carrier’s truck.

Good morning from a nicely wet So. Central Wisconsin where the rain is highly welcomed. On and off rain until evening.

Just back from the hair cut. 3pm we have a private open house at the hockey arena in town. They added another rink to the complex and they invited all the donors in for a thank you get together before the big public open house starts this evening.
We are going only to show the “flag” as at 4:30 the UW Women Badger hockey team play Minnesota Gophers in Minneapolis in the WCHA conference championship semi final game. Watching at home on the TV! Other then 2021 no spectators allowed Covid embargo we had gone every year since 2015. In 2020 the world shut down the Thursday after the Badgers own the tournament. Damn, so much has changed since then…

Dinner is after the game this evening but not sure if we r heading out or if Terry will want to cook.

enjoy the day

Well howdy there, internet Peeps and Postal Package makers

It's Troy again

Today is one of those, "yep, I knew better" days

But first the weather... This is just hitting us, and moving slowly. The Fort is hiding in the radar W by SW of Toledo. You'll eventually find the Blue Map Pin for us.

Weather is moving, as usual, to the NE

Welp... I knew I should have been backing up more often...

I've got an old epic fantasy series set in Historical Dark Ages Wales/Britain. Post Arthur, and the Mabonogian Arthur, not the French Romance Arthur.

I need to get the paperbacks republished on Amazon. I had them Archived there (removed but saved). The problem is I need to do a bunch of formatting, spell-checking, etc, as well as new covers. Since I'm heading off to a game convention (RPGs and TableTop Minis) at the end of March, I need to get a few paperbacks ordered to sell there.

And when my computer blew up and turned into a doorstop, I wiped the hard drive in an attempt to reinstall the OS.

And my backups weren't up to date. I'm having to pull in Word docs and format those in the writing program I use (Scrivener, it's specific to authors, and professional writers). Then export that file into the ebook and paperback format software.

And I have seven books in that series.

Going to be a long several days while I get these caught up.

Good morning/afternoon gang!

Sunny, dry day today, drove the 21 year old truck to work today. I drive it on nice days just to keep the lubricants flowing. Runs like a Singer sewing machine! The boss is tied up with the GM rep, so he's out of my hair! ;)

Gonna get a Digi-Key order together this weekend, bus wiring, feeders, connectors, and blank PC board so we can get this track electrified!

Also considering re-entering fleabay again as a seller. It's been 6-7 years since I stopped, but I have some locos to dispose of. I just don't trust them with access to my bank info. Maybe FB marketplace?

BBL

wow, TROY -- I can understand my not backing up stuff (I simply forget), but with all your writing, ect, and drawings ... you need a good backhand across the cheek.:confused:
I haven't worked on these books for maybe 3-4 years. So they did fall through the cracks. The only thing I've done is build new covers for the ebooks. But with the paperbacks, I wanted to give them all a refresh. And... where did those backups go? Found them on the external Hard drive from four years ago.

Good morning all!

Its a soggy one out there today! Not sure when the rain started last night, but it has been coming down for 5+hours. Know what that means. When the spring warmth hits we will be mowing every 3 days.

The charging port on my old laptop sizzled a couple days ago and I purchased a new one and im still getting used to the keyboard on this one. I opted for a smaller laptop this time and everything seems so scrunched. Don't know about anyone else but getting a new computer all set up like the old one is a drag.

Hope everyone has a safe day!

Not sure about that either. I have several boxes of N scale stuff still to sell, and I quit once they required a bank account. I haven't tried marketplace, but that's always an option. Wife says to go to the local bank and set up an account just for that, then they don't have access to our household account. Seems like a good idea, I just have never done it, nor do I really want to.

It was so much easier in the old days when you sold the item, and it went on your PayPal account, and you could build that up and use it for other purchases. Such is change, I guess.

Yeah I used to send a lot daily with my business and the print at home often had a discount (in those days -- don't know about now). But I would still bring them in myself to their drop off. I still print package postage online usually but am no longer actively in the business I am in so don't know all the tricks on saving now

Yeah, if you do decide to use PayPal now, use a bank account that has no access to your regular household funds. Only has the money in it that you need for PayPal. If you use a credit union, many of them allow you to set up a second "share" checking account which is a separate checing account 9but still part of your main membership so you can easily transfer money back and forth as needed online etc).

(Credit Unions call each account that is part of your membership a "share." For example, Share 1 might be the default savings account, share 10 the checking, etc. A second checking might be share 11. Money market Share 20, etc)

Oh and I snagged this pic yesterday. These derailed tank cars have been sitting here for several weeks as they're being vented off. Last week one had a flare out the vent pipe.
I can't tell from the photo (new laptop with smaller screen) Are those tankers loaded onto flat cars?

Sure, looks like it would make a great modeling opportunity!

Wasn't there a member here that did this? Maybe it was Tom @CambriaArea51. Hopefully my memory is correct.

And all because the feds want to controll every transaction you do, so they can get their piece. I've had a Paypal for a while now and they also wanted my account number if i wanted to get the money out. Screw them. I was able to hook up Pay pal to any ebay purchases, even though i'm not at all computer savvy. My first ever ebay purchase amount was taken from PayPal and nothing is connected to my bank account. I always keep business and pleasure separate. This nonsense will only keep getting worse.

Good morning, all! I've trying to walk the dog in between rain showers. It's predicted to clear up this afternoon along with a cool front passing through. Temps near 80 today, but not getting out of the 60's tomorrow and Sunday.

Grizzled and David - best wishes and prayers to your families
Sherrel - Hang tough. Chicken fried steak, one of my favorite meals.
Willie - $2.73 for gas here. Exception, Buc-ee's $2.62.

Clowns - I actually got to meet Emmett Kelly. My Dad took me and a friend to the Ringling Bros and Barnum Baily circus. While we were working our way through the arena, we met him coming out the men's room. He stopped and talked with us for a minute or two.

Trains - Still working at adding tracks to the turntable. The hope is to be able to place all the DCC engines on the layout.

STAY SAFE
LATER
