I like cats. ;)
Ah cats…I HAD stopped on dogs…but…..cats….we took in a rescue she was pregnant we ended up with 5! my parents had one who would play but with claws we would play paw versus hand swipes I would usually win but occasionaly lost and we played a lot and as the cat was right handed I played right which is my slower hand, and when caught I would get scratched sone deep, a doctor seeing them years after thought I was a self harmer!
catzzzzzzzzzzzzz
but if I had to only have one the dog would win

FYI THAT TIGER had a serious attitude, he claimed leant on the fence and peed on the idiot who got close a worker was heard saying it was his party trick, people had been warned and still walked up to him
The just ran at the fence scared the watchers and walked away as in haha

I'm a cat person. Getting drug off my bike by an aggressive dog when I was 8 years old didn't help. (Dog didn't know what to do once he caught me, and just pulled at my pants leg until a neighbor pulled him off.

It was the face-plant into the gravel along the curbless "country neighborhood" road that set me to blood and tears. Everyone laughs but me. Seems the very next day was photo day at school. Mom insisted on ordering those pics. I had scabs all over my face. "You'll want them someday..."

Nope. I know what box they're in, and I'll burn the entire box once mom passes. Don't want to see my baby or kid stuff. Especially no the memories of the aggressive dog.

that said, we had dogs when I grew up. They were fine, but I was a cat person from them on. Wife and daughter had two beagles in our married life. They always came to me when they were storm-scared.... ugh. I love rain. Even mild thunderstorms. Those dogs with their negative energy during those time made me not enjoy them at all. Wife's big idea was to lock the dog down in the basement so it wouldn't see the thunder.

The basement was my cave... all she did was to reinforce the instinct of the dog to follow me around during the storms... ugh...

Did I mention I'm a cat person?

anyway... good luck with the dog. I'd work on treats, and kindness. Sounds like that's what she needs.

I'm currently at the point of deciding if the dog will be better off in her previous situation, or trying to work with her so she has a peaceful quiet home. I know what was going on before, though maybe this behavior was attributed to stress in the home, rather than a deeper problem with the pooch.
I'll be giving them a call when I get home, and see if what I'm seeing now is what was going on there. If so, it may be something I won't be successful addressing.
You tried, if it is just too much, you tried, your life tends to be stressful it would be nice if she and you bonded BUT if the dress is too much, you may just need to consider yourself the higher priority,
best luck which ever way the cards fall.

It's going to take time. She must learn to trust you.

My old Beagle Tucker came from a home where the husband was mean to him, and the wife tolerated him.

Tucker loved my wife from the first minute. He jumped into the car and sat on her lap in the front passenger seat on the ride home. All the while he kept a wary eye on me. He kept his distance from me for a few weeks. He would snap at me, and he bit me a few times when I put his harness on or tried to move him. He was great with the kids and everyone else, but he was frightened of me. I believe the biting was out of fear.

I did not use any harsh discipline with him. I felt it would have been counterproductive. Finally, every time he snapped at me; I kissed him on the nose. He gave me a fat lip a few times, but the kisses eventually worked. He has been my shadow for the last ten years. He still loves my wife, but he follows my every move and is always within an arm's reach of me. Kisses may not have been the smartest move. Suffering should have been my middle name.

You will find a way to gain her trust.

I hope everything works out.

Terry, Louis is soo right about this! Give her time, and give her space. With all our dogs, as soon as we met / adopted them I sat on the floor and let them come to me. Be as non - threatening as you can, don't tower over them, that's scary. Sit on the floor with some treats, it will go a long way to gain her trust. Be patient, it will come. Maybe not today, not next week, but it will come in baby steps,.

Our last black lab hated thunderstorms. We knew roughly 2 hours before a storm. She would pace and pant terribly. When the storm hit, she was plastered to me!

She was a much better predictor of severe weather than the trained meteorologist's!

The new lab is kind of a knucklehead and isn't afraid of anything!

Dammit. I just spent the last 3 and a half hours trying to find my dog. I got home from work, opened the door, and she took off as soon as the door opened. I tried following, chasing her, calling her, driving trying to find and catch her, but she took off like a shot. And she hasn't been here long enough to know this is where "home" is. I really hope she is found, though I hadn't even had a chance to get a license, or start any kind of process of documentation. She does have her harness, so maybe if she's found, whoever finds her will know she's not a stray, and give her a good home. That's all I've got for now.

Good morning all. A cold, cloudy day today, so, Flo I'll have a Full English and a round of toast. A large pot of tea as well, please. I'll be by the window.

Cats

Before Dawn became ill we always had cats throughout our married life. They would come. Some stayed a length of time. Others moved on.

Big Son was street cat and feared nothing. Dog walkers would take another route. He would protect the house better than a guard dog.

Baby Sylvester was just that. Loved to held like a baby.

Cherub was a mother cat and looked after the others. If she knew fish was around, it was hers.

Cranberry. had been illtreated as a kitten before she arrived. Her markings in her fur were like cranberries and arriving at Christmas hence her name. She lived until she was 18 years of age. In all her life she very rarely allowed me to stroke her. Claws were 'at the ready'. Dawn did not stroke her, but Cranberry would be found at her side.

We had many others and found good homes for them. The four above all lived to 17,18 or 19 years of age.

I always thought cat person's were people who didn't get beat-up enough as a kid at school. If you get beat up enough times, you really kinda want to get a great big dog.
You musta missed my earlier threads last year about how I was bullied in gym class...

Big dog wouldn't help with gym class, and med to big dogs were viewed by post 8-year-old me as bullies.

Now, my best friend at the time did have a German Shepherd, named Gretel. Nice dog, but I was still leary around her.

well, howdy there internet peeps,

It's troy again. Full stack of donuts this morning, FLO. Gonna need them later.

I've got to take Mom to the X-ray peeps today, so they can peep into her chest. She has been having pains when walking, but Nitro pills have no effect.

Doc wants another chest x-ray.

I've been watching a lot of scale modeler videos on painting WW2 tanks. I found one that would be of interest to this crew. Martin from the NighShift channel on youtube paints well. AND he does awesome little dioramas for his models. Including painting his static grass. Yep... to see how, check out this vid. It's about 15 min, and starts with the diorama process post-tank painting.

Morning all,

Intermittent thunder showers this morning and 49° currently.

Got to get a big river card so I can order my new wifi router for the house. Fiber internet is now ready to be installed. The joke called the local cable company is now advertising fiber internet as well, however if you read the fine print, the part between their service and the customer connection point is via coaxial cable. That makes it cable internet not fiber.

I know AT&T (my current DSL provider) really want's to get rid of the copper line to my house as they keep sending information on "upgrading" to their 5G internet service. While faster than what I have it's $10 more that the fiber company wants and I have no 5G service at the house. Both AT&T and Verizon don't have 5G there so it's safe to assume that nobody is going to have 5G. Oh and an AT&T marketer called and left "exciting news" that they can upgrade my fiber internet to a faster speed for less. Would be nice if AT&T actually had fiber in the area. 🤣

Terry: Sorry the dog is gone. We always used a crate and crate trained them. I used to think that was mean, but then you see what they dig or do on their own and they like the small space. Got to where when they want to be left alone, they'd go lay in their crates with the doors open.

I watch panzermeister36 on you tube and while he normally does armour a couple times a year he’ll weather up a rail modern car. He is IMO very good.

I watch others but the only other one in my mind right now is Night Shift. I use his chipping methods on the diesel locomotive plows

have fun

You are going to love those speeds at home

Good Morning All. Cloudy right now and 61°. It has sprinkled a little overnight with less than a tenth of an inch in the gauge, more might be on the way today. Temperature won't change more than a degree or two until nightfall tomorrow when another cool front comes through.

Yesterday's weather was another picture-perfect day. I finished up the clean-up in the firewood stacking area and have all of the remaining "aged" wood in one stack, and all of the "green" wood from the "tree pile" already in another. That stack will increase and I will have to start another one before I am done with next winter's supply
After that I re-tilled the rest of the garden down to the 8" max that my tiller generally goes. The part that is already planted was tilled 7" in the fall, just before Christmas. I do need a new battery on the tiller, I had to use the pull rope to start it. Not hard, it took just two pulls to get it going after sitting idle for almost three months. I still like the electric starter though.

It's weekly grocery trek Thursday today. I'm meeting the SIL to get their granddog for Spring Break week. She won't be happy sitting in the car when I go into the pharmacy on the trip home, but that never takes more than a couple of minutes. Wife has a hair appointment at the same time, so she won't be going with me. As usual, the granddog will be with us when it rains, so we'll have to deal with wet/muddy feet.

I did get a little time out in the train shed yesterday. Besides adding more headstones to the cemetery, I added a bench under a tree and rearranged the mausoleum and tool storage shed.

Here are a few progress shots of the many headstones.

Looks like a couple are out of alignment. Maybe I'm overdoing it, but I like the look.

Patrick - We actually have three granddogs, but only two are allowed to stay with me. The third which was a rescue dog, barks and growls at me, gets on the furniture, and worst of all, craps in the house...sometimes immediately after being out for an hour. She does the same at home and they have to confine her to her crate much of the day. That daughter regrets getting her.
Curt - That bold red end is a bit overwhelming. The day that I took the pictures was an intense sunshine day. I'm not old enough to have remembered them running, so I don't know if they originally came that way or if it was an over-zealous painter during restoration.

Gotta go now and check out the online coupons for the grocery store to see if any match what's on my list. Everyone have a great day
