The weather is gonna be warm today with a temp of 94 and 76% humidity. I am glad the AC works well in my car.
My daughter and I are going to a family reunion down in the country at Wedowe, Alabama, which is near Weetumkia, which is near Montgomerty, Alabama. Yes, we do have a few Creek Indian named places in Alabama.
This will not be a joyous occasion as I found out a second cousin to my dad passed away on Thursday. She was a gracious lady and a driving force in getting people to attend the annual reunion.
As I write this, one of my favorite CSX engineers is passing on the nearby tracks. There are 5 crossings within a mile and he starts blowing his horn before the first crossing and continues through the last crossing. I live near the middle, so I get the doppler effect for about two and a half minutes.

Have a safe and happy Saturday.

Good morning all!

Currently a very sticky 63F with the humidity levels at 93%. High is expected to reach 77F under mostly cloudy skies. Heat starts to build
tomorrow for a stretch od low to mid 90s.Other than the morning light rain yesterday we never got the heavy thunderstorms that were
predicted.

On todays agenda will be the weekly grocery trip, some laundry, dishwasher emptying, etc....... I did make it out to mow yesterday since there
were no afternoon, so at least that is done.

Not much else going on at the moment.

Have a safe day everyone!

75°F/74°F this morning. It's going to be very humid today and for the next eight days or so. It's going to be like living in Florida or Louisiana. Dewpoints are expected to top 80°F with temps in the mid- to upper 90°s. Heat warnings go into effect tomorrow sometime, noon I think. I will be holed up in the A/C with the blinds and curtains drawn on the south and west sides of the house.

This is the weather that makes me want to move to Rheinlander or Eagle River, Wisconsin. I hate summer in Southern Illinois. It may as well be Louisiana.

Thunderstorms now, and on and off all day with a stalled front about 100 miles north of here.

Hope you all have a cool Saturday.

Servus!

Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those with Juice (electrons or citrus)

It's Troy again.

Book release day! Too early to tell how it's going. Book 8 in the series, so there is always reader drop off with each one.

But this one has a "situation" that has been 5 books in the making. Can't say more because of *spoilers*... but it's fun enough that I've been warning the readers through my email blasts, and social media not to say anything in their reviews about "the situation"

Forgot to hit Enter.

So I'll continue post shower and anti-perspirant.

Still researching my family tree. Trying to find the records I *might* need may require a trip to Ontario Canada. But, the family in question was Mennonite at the time, and we've got two good archives for the Mennonites in the US right here in Indiana over in my home county. A road trip might be in order.

I'm prepping by getting internet archive images of important documents. I have a virtual call with a Canadian attorney that specializes in citizenship through ancestry on July 9. I want to pass on the docs I've got from the US that show the ancestor claimed to be born in Canada in the early 1800s. Back before birth certificates were a thing.

I'm not sure how to prove that the ancestors beyond that were canadian, other than a couple of Upper Canada Census of 1851 entries. I've got those for his mother and father. Just need to see if that's enough.

Oh, and I have friends that live in Swift Current Saskatchewan and they say other than being windy, it's comparable in cost to my part of the US

You are serious! And i was ready to say, “Take off, eh!” ;)

I don't like the heat of summer, and as the saying goes, “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity.” At least I don’t have to shovel either one. I can stay cool in my house on those hot and humid days. I dislike heavy snow even more than the heat, so moving north is definitely out of the question for me.

Here’s a tip: don’t wait until winter arrives to buy your shovels and snow thrower. Oh, and don't play the horses. I'm full of good advice, I'm full of something alright. 🤪

I wish you all the best!

Good Morning All. Clear and already 80°, it didn't actually drop from that overnight. Supposed to hit 97° today; we're under a semi-permanent heat advisory until Labor Day. Pretty windy again today and probably tomorrow with 20+mph all day. That will evaporate the pool level to normal quite rapidly.

Plan for today includes going to Dallas tonight for daughter #2's Birthday party. She's turned 45 yesterday! I guess that makes me an old fart. Where did that time go??? We're in separate cars because my wife went yesterday to watch several different events with my granddaughter and spent the night She'll do the same tonight because she no longer drives at night.

Not a lot going on out in the train shed right now. Between mowing, mandatory pool time and other tasks, train time is a bit limited. It will pick up after the grass stops growing for the summer and it gets too hot for too many outdoor activities. I did find time to apply parking stripes to the road between the brewery and the bakery; and parking lot stripes on the other side of the recreation center parking lot. While out of the initial targeted project area, I had done the other side of the lot a couple of weeks ago. Over on the workbench, I fabricated the sidewalk to go on the street-side of the bakery, but didn't get a chance to paint and install it yet. If I get any time out there today, it will be just to run trains.

Kusojiji -
How about going up vice north? I drove through Oklahoma in '89 and saw some white stuff with brown stuff on the side of the road. After going out on my CB, a few truck drivers told me it was snow. I couldn't believe it being this far south (40). I stopped, got out and kicked the ice berm to confirm it.
It snows that far south all of the time. I am at latitude 33° and I get a snow/ice event between 1 and 4 times a season. Remember this from last January?

Troy -
Of course, they’re about an hour away from Moose Jaw. What a town name!!!
Speaking of town names, just SE of Dallas is a place called Gun Barrel City. I had a long-time employee who lived there
Chet - Code 83 and code 100 rail joiners are the same these days. Still need a transition joiner if you're joining different codes though.
Karl - Have a safe trip home.

Everyone have a safe Saturday.

Anyone ever been to Frostbite Falls, Minnesota? I saw it on a TV show once, twice, many times. I enjoy cartoons almost as much as baseball.

What is the name of that town on Blue Ball Road? I don't remember but I would not want to live there! Neither baseball nor cartoons (old-school cartoons at least) have disturbing names like the name of that road.

You are serious! And i was ready to say, “Take off, eh!” ;)
If I can get this accomplished without spending a fortune, it's one of the best gifts I can give my daughter.

She is 30-something, in an inter-racial relationship, on the spectrum, and not politically aligned with the US right now.

I can give her an escape hatch. If I get citizenship, she's automatically in. That CA passport lets her leave without repurcussion.

it's one of the best gifts I can give my daughter.
First, you take care of your responsibilities to your elders, then you focus on looking after your daughter.

You may not identify as a Christian, but you definitely embody the qualities of a good one. I hope you know I mean no offense; in fact, it’s quite the opposite, as I consider it the highest compliment I could give.

Have a pizza on me!

For those who are unfamiliar with the phrase “Take off, eh!” It was made famous by Bob and Doug McKenzie on SCTV in the 1980s; two goofy, lovable Canadian characters who used “take off, eh!” constantly. It stuck in the culture as a lighthearted, good‑natured jab.
It’s basically a playful way of saying “get outta here” or “you’re full of it.”
Not angry, not serious — more like a friendly shove with a grin.

Howdy all, 84 here, heading for 93 with a 15% chance of the liquid wet stuff. We have plenty of the steamy wet stuff already. G'nephew Lucas spent the night with us last night. He was thrilled that he has finally hit 6 feet tall, the boy is 14 and eats like a starving pack of hyenas. Normal teen age boy...
Yeah Southern Illinois' humidity is cloying, that "bowl" of the convergence of those rivers leaves no way for it to break up. man, working those counties in kevlar was rough on an old, fat man.
Taking Lucas and one of his buddies to a ballgame tonight, hopefully the weather will cooperate.
You guys have a good day.

Good afternoon. I am glad that we are getting a little bit of a break from the heat. As you'll see from the photos posted, it is only 66 degrees, Cooler weather for the next 3 or 4 days with some showers forecasted.

Mikey - It is a good thing that your A/C is working. Be careful out there.

Willie - That photo may cool some folks down a bit. The wind is one thing I do NOT miss here. Where I used to like we could get a wind out of the canyon heading down to West Yellowstone from the 20 to 40 MPH range. Working out in that wind for 2 hours would wear you out as if you worked for 8 hours.

When it came to tool boxes, I had o\known the Snap On salesman for years. There were times we didn't have 2 nickels to rub together and other times with times were better, but I bought the USED chests with drawers. I didn't need anything fancy. Just needed something to organize and keep tools off of the floor. My son mentioned that he did use a few colorful words when he was trying to move them into his shop/garage.

Willie and Mike, I did get on the internet and ordered a #4 left hand turnout and some code 100 rail joiners. I don't need many. I have been looking into Woodland Scenics for ground covering. I had been looking for the ground foam that I had used for decades and didn't find any. Did they change the name of the product or did I not look far enough in their listing?

I moved the LEDs from facing the rear of the shelf to pointing down and this improved the lighting. Notice the temperature reading on the weather station of the shelf above. The time is incorrect. Tis unit is such a pain in the ass to enter the time.

I don't think that there will be enough room to put Tschache Oil on the module. I will put mirrors at each end of the module to make it look larger. I would like to have 3 homes and a couple or three businesses on it. Have to find a place here in town to cut the mirrors. Maybe a picture framing shop.

Onto the archives.

LATER

Well, the wife made me go out for BBQ for lunch. Drat! What luck! :p:cool:

Then she came home and started baking. My job was to open stuff up for her. RH Arthritis sucks for her. But she's having fun with her sourdough starter she got going.

Bread.jpg

Above: cinnamon bread x 2... if you're observant, you'll notice the orgeat and simple syrup I made for tonight's mai tais.

cookies.jpg

Above, her Peanut butter oatmeal zucchini cookies with walnuts.

banana chips.jpg

Above: that's 6 bananas dehydrated down into 1 and a third pints.
