Good morning all!

Happy Friday!

Another gorgeous day in store for today. Currently a sunny 59F with the high expected to be around 78F. The humidity will start to
build today but it will still be fairly comfortable.

Usual stuff around the house this morning. I have to decide whether to mow today or put it off till tomorrow. Its fairly close to needing it
but not quite ready. No rain in tomorrows forecast either so it doesn't matter I guess.

Not much else going on at the moment.

Have a safe day everyone!

I have decided not to hire any more teenagers to do yard work for me as it is too hard on me.
My wife has had two back surgeries and a knee replacement in the last 3-1/2 years with necessary physical therapy sessions.
My yard maintenance has consisted of cutting the yard with the lawn tractor and hauling the mower to the shop for service and repairs.
My lot is about 5/8 of an acre in sunny and rainy central Alabama, surrounded on 3 sides by brush and trees.
My wife hired a 17 yro basketball player grandson of a friend to clear brush and small trees back close to the lot lines, edge the 350 feet of driveway and sidewalk, trim branches from trees in the yard and a couple other short tasks.
He did work hard, but needed constant decisions about what to cut and trim, as we put trash in my pickup to move to the trash pile.
Due to Alabama heat and humidity, I planned to work only in the mornings.
Thank God that he had basketball practice at noon or I would have never survived. An 80 yro fat man should not try to keep up with a teenage boy!
If he worked 3 hours, I would have to recuperate for 3 hours before I could go get a shower. I am still going to bed an hour earlier and waking up at 4 am because of the early bedtime.

On the positive side, I have time to read many posts on this forum.
Careful Mikey! We're in a bad demographic for that sort of work, especially where you are. My lot is a .25 acre in the city. I hire a guy once a year for the heavy stuff. His price includes a mid summer clean up. It's a little expensive, but worth it. The mowing and minor trimming/pruning I still do, but it's getting harder at 71. I don't have a lawn tractor anymore, just a walk behind self-propelled mower. It's easier but you still have to horse it around corners, turn it, etc. and it's a bit heavy. Not doing any work on my own cars anymore either unless it's really simple stuff that doesn't require jacking, pulling wheels, or like that. At our age, its healthier to say "I have people for that". :)

The fire was knocked out in about an hour....thankfully. All ground assets, no air needed.

I have done preorders for Rapido through Trainworld and it has been a piece of cake. No money down and less than a year of waiting. Athearn Genesis are beautiful, but I don't know of a single model that hasn't taken 3+ years to complete. Hard pass.

That just reminded me of a guy I saw on the train one day. He had a gray bag that he placed on the armrest against the wall of the train. All was nice and quiet and then I saw a furry head pop out of the top. He gently petted it and pushed it back into the bag.
I have a friend who brings his cat when he visits from Oregon. The cat does very well in the carrier. Unfortunately, with rescues you don't get to do much training. They are who they are when you get them, and who knows what they've been through. This one is terrified of the crate and the vet.

Happy Friday to those of you who still keep track of what day it is. Happy Juneteenth if that's your thing. 58 in the Brew City this morning, going to 73. 55% chance of rain so I got the grass cut yesterday. Today the wife and I go out to lunch somewhere. Not sure where just yet. I need to go to Harbor Freight and pick up a bottom toolbox. I've outgrown the existing one, though the top box is still OK. It's a Snap-on, bought back when I made my living bending wrenches. The addition of several power tools and a few other things over the years requires space for batteries and chargers, as well as the tools themselves. Having it all in one place is a good thing. The HF US General line of boxes looks to be economical and tough enough for what I need. We'll see. At $3500 plus, the Snap-on bottom box is out of the running! Great stuff, but if you aren't making your living with it, it's not worth the money. Got the mail train tested last night. Three cars need tweaking, the rest of the train is OK. I even backed it through a crossover without any derailments. Video over on my passenger car thread shortly.

Good Morning All. Heavy thunderstorm and 69°. Kudos to the NWS on this one; while they were off by 5.5 hours, they got the heavy part right. I can't see the rain gauge from the window and it's raining too hard to step out on the uncovered porch to attempt a look, but the Weather Underground station around the corner shows that 2.15" fell between 0530 and 0630, which is when I typed this. Doesn't look like it will be over for another hour or so, albeit much less heavy according to the radar. Temperature dropped by 8° at the same time. Lots of thunder. I'm sure that the pool is overflowing through the skimmer. At least the cars got washed.

Happy Juneteenth. Trivial note: Texas was the first state to recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday in 1979.

Well, we're almost there. Gas around about town was at $3.19/gallon everywhere. I suspect that Buc-Ee's might have possibly been under $3, but they don't have a sign out front; you have to drive up to the pump to see what they are charging. Nothing else significant about the grocery trek yesterday and the dishwasher didn't magically empty itself while we were gone.
After the rain, it looks like the honey-do list will take priority today unless I can sneak out to the train shed early.

Last week I took advantage of ScaleTrains Father's Day Sale and the package arrived yesterday. Leftover on the shelf models. In my case it was buy one GP30U and get an 86' Auto parts boxcar free. I got two, the last two GP30U numbers that I didn't already have and my first two ST freight cars. The Geeps were in a "faded paint" scheme and were of course lettered for Santa Fe.

However someone at ST either screwed up or they were feeling generous, as there was three extra 86" boxcars in the box! There is 1-UP, 1-DRGW and one SLSF. All feasible in interchange service on ATSF. It was after business hours when I got the package, so I'll call this morning if they are open. I wasn't charged, so who knows. Maybe an unexpected thank you since I already purchased 10 other locos in the last 8 months.

Karl - Enjoy the vacation and have a safe trip.
Tom O - I have read and heard of horror stories about pre-orders for over 20 years, so I never gave them a shot. Passed a few really good locos in that time. When ScaleTrains first came on the scene, they seemed much more honest about it, but I still don't know why I decided to give them a try. I did and while it took 9 months, I was happy with the results. As you pointed out:
No money down, direct shipment, they let you know in advance the tariff cost if not absorbed, a no problem cancel at anytime policy and finally 10 days to pay once you are notified the model is in.
I have since bought another 25 diesels (see above) and continue to be impressed.
Mikey - Supervision is not always an easy job. I know! I spent 43 years doing it professionally and can speak with first-hand experience!
At 74, I still mow and otherwise maintain ~3 acres and cut two cords of firewood a year. I do realize that I need to back off a bit though. Other than oil changes, I have stopped maintaining cars though.

Everybody have a fine Friday.

I’d recommend St Paul’s Fish Company at the Milwaukee Public Market in the 3rd ward but Summerfest started 3 blocks away yesterday. There is one in Mequon if you like fish

Thanks Tom, but I'm not going anywhere near Summerfest. I don't have that kind of patience anymore. Mequon is nice but too far. We have a couple of really good places out here in the Hartland area that are minutes away and very good. Probably one of those. I see myself avoiding the downtown area until after Summerfest. :)

72°F/65°F this morning. They keep talking about a dewpoint lower than yesterday. It was 58°F yesterday and 65°F this morning. Go figure. Bang-up job there. Your Magic 8-Ball needs a 3000 mile check.

83°F for a high today. Can't really complain about weather like this in June this far south in Illinois. Rain and possible severe is being guessed at for Sunday. I haven't looked at any charts yet to confirm their guesses, so I guess I'll make my way over to the SPC site later today and see what's going on.

Grass is starting to get shaggy again, but when I cut it last week I missed a couple of spots because it was not quite tall enough to cut and I couldn't tell I hadn't made a pass at that spot. I have to cut around some obstacles in the yard and it throws off my cutting pattern. It makes it easy to miss a spot. I'm going to try and put it off until Monday, but I might cut the front tomorrow.

I've never paid a nickel for a pre-order. The Germans don't accept money for preorders. I'm not sure if it's the law, or just a standard practice. You might have to wait awhile though. I currently have a pre-order in for a new ESU model of the SBB Re 4/4 IV locomotive. This is going to be an extremely detailed model with operating pantographs, sparking brakes when applied hard, sensor activated curve squeal, and many lighting options. It is a Swiss-only release, so my pre-order is with a Swiss Modellbahn shop overseas. It might be some time before this is released.

Might run trains later, and might run the Re 4/4 IV I currently have by Roco. This model is very primitive and was not even DCC ready. It has a decoder installed now and I changed over the bulbs to LEDs. No sound though as no sound file exists for this locomotive and no room for a speaker. I've already removed one of the weights and I don't want to remove the other.

Have a great Friday and a great weekend too. Servus!

I've seen some manufacturers put out a something of interest (can't remember what the first word is) for a planned model and if they don't get enough, then it dies before being hatched.
Exactly. When the model doesn't appear within a certain time, and the Importer is running silent, there is always a possibility the project was cancelled, and you don't really know until the item suddenly appears. Then when you have orders with more than one vendor to cover yourself, (Rapido's Northeastern Cabin Car), and finally one vendor ships, and the second doesn't for another month, one wonders whether vendor 2 was shorted.

Prospective models get announced all the time then disappear if the advanced orders don't materialize.

Haven't been active for a while due to new cataract implants on May 13 & May 27. First thing I noticed was not the plastic
eye protector but the difference in color perception. New implant much more brilliant color-5000k daylight vs 3000k warm
white vs in the eye with oem lens. Also the increase in color saturation. After 2nd implant no difference in color rendition between eyes. Now wear sunglasses more because everytyhing is brighter.

Implants were selected for distance vision. Can see pretty good for far objects. Appt next week for post op which I believe will⁸ have new prescription for near and medium. My present glasses were long overdue to new ones and eye doctor said to wait for implants to get new ones. Near vision with old glasses marginal so not doing much reading at the present.

Drove at night yesterday for the first time and starburst mostly gone.

I know implants are routine but I was apprehensive if something didn't come out ok and what plan B was. Didn't ask. Continuing with eyedrop regime and looking forward to new glasses which don't keep sliding down on my nose.

Good example was Bachmann's re-release of their On30 Heisler, but this time with metal gears. About 6 months after the announcement it vanished from their website. Too few pre-orders to justify production.

Good afternoon folks, 74 here, it feels REALLY good.
My Battletech game went well last night, good players and we had a very good time. This morning went to meet a local holster and saddle maker to move the snap on a holster for me. Survived the Walmartians, we are replacing the pajama brigade with the tourists. [since it is Tourist Season, can we shoot them?]
Got some trees and experimental trees at Hobby Lobby yesterday and found out when I got home a package of 3d printed cars and trucks had arrived fro China. Pretty quick, less than 2 weeks from ordering to arrival. No plans for the rest of the day except seeing how some of the HL plants will take to paint to make bulk evergreens and some of the planned peach trees may stay white as decoration trees in the town area.

Driving to Racine yesterday we couldn’t understand all the traffic between Madison and the Zoo interchange at 11am. Brewers played at 1 and Summerfest opened yesterday. We took Hwy 20 home.

The Mequon restaurant for St Paul’s Fish Company is nice but can’t compare with the crazy atmosphere of the Public Market. But yeah agree with avoiding Milwaukee until after Summerfest!

Good evening gang!

My bags are packed, the truck s fueled and ready, wide is still packing. I've got a small suitcase and a another small thing I call my "go" bag, She has the 2 large suitcases and another large cloth bag. She's running around upstairs,I'm in the basement with a few adult beverages. Sounds normal eh?

Pre- orders. I've only Pre-ordered 3 locos. When Bowser did the Western Maryland RS3s in the run there were 2 road numbers, and I number only available to WMRYHS members. Though the society I pre-ordered the "exclusive" road number. It took almost 2 years to get.
When the released the "hammerhead" version of the WM RS3. Again I ordered one of the society's unique units. Took a lot less time , maybe 8 months.

I also pre-ordered a Rapido WM 44 tonner #75. That too about 18 months but it was worth it. The Rapido version is soooo far ahead of the Bachmann it's not funny. I'm glad I dumped my Bachmann unit as soon as I heard about the Rapido units.

Hitting the road in the a.m., I'll check in after we arrive!

Y'all behave yourselves (you too Terry!)
