I wait until there is no wind, to paint one of my structures. 90° and sunny, so I drag the recycle can under the tree for shade. Get set up with gloves et all, and start spraying...Surprise, a NNW wind blows up...

George: Look into the supplemental plan through the Railroad unions. with United Healthcare. I pay $226/month for Plan F...that's a lot cheaper than AARP. Open enrollment in even years. not sure when. Worth a look. How are you holding up?

Afternoon All,

Had a poor night's sleep last night due to Neuropathy. It usually doesn't bother me, but this came on strong. I took medication 2 times before it finally calmed enough to sleep. Today I did chores and errands. I think I'm going to order 2 small structures. One will replace a cheapo one on the layout in the coal yard. Tomorrow, I need to get pool chlorine.

Chad- Interesting idea. I think we all have seen that in action on our RR's.

Patrick- You might say your garden is bearing fruit! 😔 Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Joe- I think it's just part of the general dumbing down of America. Everything moves to the lowest common denominator.

Smudge- Nice videos and they weren't running at "Lionel speed".

Bill- That looks like a decent breakfast.

Jay- Another interesting livery.

Willie- Sorry to hear about the tax board.

Todd- Interesting photo.

Swal- I have been thinking of you and hope you are as well as you can be.

This is from the Cumbre and Toltec. Unfortunately, I was not closer for this.

I found out one other thing today, Boris. Although my wife gets here SS statements from Social Security when I called them today, they told me her payments are made through The Railroad Retirement Board. I knew she received some of my Railroad Retirment pension, but I didn't know all her SS was paid by them. Social Security told me I would have to call the RRB that she had passed. I found this out after I was on the phone for an hour waiting for a SS agent. The RRB was much faster only a 15-minute wait.

The A380 wings look short when you compare it to the size of the fuselage. I know they're huge but they look stubby in the video at the angles compared to the plane's body. Pretty cool to watch. I've not had a chance to fly in an A380. Singapore used to fly one from LAX to NRT IIRC -- It was from LAX and we ended up in Tokyo. I think it was LAX -- NRT -- SIN -- but that never worked out for us.

Gee! This talk of pensions etc..
When you are young pension age is so far away.
Then in no time at all it is here.
Thankfully if I go before Dawn she gets half my company pension (which is sizeable), plus her own company and state pension.
If Dawn goes 'upstairs' before me I will have my pension plus half hers (not a lot though she earned far more than me) plus state pension.
When we both go the 'robbin' baskets' will take everything left leaving 'tuppence change'.

On an off-note to everything else going on, since it was Juneteenth, I realized that the greatest battle in US history is about to have another anniversary.

So I'm rereading Stephen Sears' Gettysburg

and on or about July 4 I'll watch the Ron (oh, lordy, he's got another speech in the movie) Maxwell's movie Gettysburg in it's 4+ hour special edition.

And I've been watching vids from the Gettysburg Battlefield channel.

I might just have to paint up some Federal boys and listen to the Sears book (I've got both audio and the ebook)

How right you are!

I wish I could go back to talk to my younger self. I never saved in an IRA for many years. I was 21, going to live forever, has SS, and a pension offered with employment. What did I need to save extra for. There were motorcycles, travel, other hobbies to spend on.

Long story short. The company I worked for sold to another. The CEO of the new company stood on his podium on day one and said "We are a family, nothing will change:". Yea, you guess it, within months the pension was the first thing on the chopping block. Thankfully we still were entitled to what we had earned at retirement, but no more was going into it.

I had a lot of investing to do in a short time. One piece of advice I took from my father was, every yearly raise give half to your 401K. You will never miss it cause you never had it! I was able to somewhat catch up, and will do ok, but I could of done a lot more.

If that's the case the benefit should be 2K, not what SS pays.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those who understand that Dan Sickles decision and it's effect on Little Round top was ... complicated.

Trying to decide, were the confederates April 9, 1865 "Losers" - that was the day Lee surrendered, or were they just misguided Americans.... ? History seems to want to have it both ways. For what it's worth, my limited study says the US Army (under Grant at the time) was fighting a foreign enemy. I'd put the Confederacy into the "loser" camp on April 9, 1965.

It took a while for the assimilation into the US of the foreign states to be reinstated...

(been debating with a friend about the term Losers for the confederates)

But, I digress.... it's 71 and 94% humididity...

Going to be hot, and almost Floriduh muggy. that darn stationary front is stalled and stuck. I'm at the eastern edge center of the map:

Not sure what's going on this weekend. A friend invited me to go to a 3d printing supplies and production fair... in Goshen, where I've driven a LOT for the last two months dealing with my mother's issues... It's about a 1.5 hour drive (depending on potty stops). On the map, it's NW of Fort Wayne, just East of South Bend.

I said "Thanks but..." I'm just not up to that drive again, and then out at county fairgrounds (no AC in the building) show. I spent four summers of my life attending the Elkhart County Fair as a newspaper photographer.... I've spent more than enough time in those fair buildings without AC.

And, I'd just want to spend more money, on more things I don't need.

My plan is to clean off the gaming table, and run a solo learning game of the Orcs in Ships game I've been painting up.

Sunday, depending on what the Spousal Unit has on her honey do list, I might clean off the train layout enough to cut that hole in the backdrop. Maybe. Depends on the back. I have to lean waaaaaay in to make that cut. And I'm starting to realize the back isn't getting better quickly. I'm at the live with it stage. The 40 year old and 50 year old backs are in the past. the new 60 year old back is here to stay.
