Good morning modelers! It’s raining and will continue in the on/off pattern it’s been following since about 1am. So. Central Wisconsin’s temperature is currently at 65f degrees heading to 80. The forecast guessing app is saying T-storms this morning and then isolated ones this afternoon.

I now have met with 3 real estate companies and eliminated one. I really would dislike dropping the group I’ve been using for years but they just seemed so ho-hum about it yesterday! It felt like they knew they’d get the job because it’s just another one of Tom's projects. I’d like to say this is my final real estate project but I think I know better. After all this will be project #3 since I said no more a couple years ago.

I was in the train room yesterday planning to just be running trains and cleaning some track. I ended up soldering the feeders to the track in the transload facility, cleaning and testing the track. It works well. Today after I vacuum (Friday chore but gone tomorrow) the house I will measure out some styrene for the pavement.

Went to the grandson’s disappointing hockey game. He played offensively great with 3 goals and 3 assists but was on the ice when the other team scored 4 times. I thought his mom was going to have a heart attack in the stands. She mumbled a lot but kept it among us in the stands. It is Summer hockey. The score was 9-12, not pretty but the kids on the ice were having fun. Scoring goals for anyone is always fun or it should be!

I was a MLB fan growing up as a kid in the late 50’s and 60’s. Dad and the car agency always had a few players with car deals and occasionally a Ron Santo, Billy Williams, Nellie Fox or Hoyt Wilhelm would show up for a party at the house. I thought Fox was great but both Santo and Williams said Willie Mays was the best player. I remember Mays as a Cub killer (who wasn’t back then) and so smooth in center field. Not a guy I have thought of too often over the years but hopefully his 93 years were great for him. So many of the players I remember as a kid are constantly leaving us. No tears but a sad thought. Another is gone

Good Morning All. Happy first day of Summer today. Mostly cloudy and 76°. Looks like the rains from that tropical depression will miss us today. Clouds will remain for a couple of days and temperatures will remain in the lower 90's. But we'll be close to or above 100° for the next week or so.

Seems like I am making some headway with the tree debris removal, I can see paths around the place. The whole sunny/shady perspective has changed dramatically this summer. Still just a bit too soon to get the professionals out to remove the big limbs dangling from the trees. Maybe Tuesday.

Not a lot of time today. This morning is the hearing before the tax appraisal board, and I need to be sure that I have everything ready, since it starts at 8:50. I have all of the forms filled out, but I need to print one more that I missed. Hearings are limited to 20 minutes, so I should make it home while it is still cool outside.
No weekly grocery trek today, tomorrow is it. Friday's are more crowded, but they give extra fuel points to make it worth while.

I did get some time out in the train shed yesterday, I'm taking a temporary break from the layout itself and working with figures over on the workbench. Specifically I am going to be re-working some of the many Chinese figures that I was gifted for Christmas a few years ago. Their quality is questionable and their choice of colors might work for someone in LA or London, they don't work for folks depicting middle America.

Let's face it, I just don't see green, yellow or purple pants!
Lots of flash as well

Over-paint on many of the female figures. Check out the necks.

I am soaking them in 91% IPA overnight. At least they are molded in flesh colored plastic which makes re-painting easier.

Patrick - I wish that I could be showing pictures of Tomatoes, but the tornado knocked several dozen ping-pong ball sized ones off the plants, and also stripped off all of the flowers. The plants are recovering, but I may not see any Tomatoes until fall.

Lionel Richie is 75 today. I was never a big fan, but all of the ladies that I knew in the 60's and 70's were.
Everyone have an absolutely great day.

Morning all,

Supposed to get to the upper 80's, currently 62° and clear.

Willie: I almost didn't post it. You usually beat me by a couple weeks and last year wasn't really good in our area for tomatoes. Trying a couple different determinate varieties. I know one is called Mountain Man. That's the one with the early and fairly decent sized fruits currently.

Good morning all!

Another warm one today with a high of 82 degrees. Looking at the radar, there's some rain out there, but looks to stay well north of us. Were to the point now where we could use some rain. I ran over the yard yesterday. It really didn't need mowed, but had a few shaded areas that were in need of cutting.,

Other than some household chores this morning. It will be back to the basement and work on the layout some more.

Pool felt great yesterday. A couple more degrees and it will be perfect.

Have a safe day all!

Morning folks

Summer is being greeted with another morning sans clouds at 41 with a forecast high of 73. Difficult not to like that.

Damn. My condolences Swal!

A friend sent me a link to a Marketplace post (I absolutely refuse to join Facebook) a few days back that listed some Globe-Wernicke barrister sections in Helena. Turned out there were more of them so yesterday my friends in Clancy picked up six, along with a base and top, and all are now upstairs. Three of those sections will need a little attention.

A number of errands and a resupply trip to Costco on the morning's agenda.

I did get a few more slides scanned the past week, all circa 1973-1974.
A few from a visit to Charles Bovey's collection at Nevada City, Montana and from a Long's Peak trek.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those who like to avoid the book of faces.

it's troy again

Managed to word some words this morning...

Words.png

I have a goal of 2K each day. Don't always hit that. Have to trust the brain to know when the ideas have baked long enough. Made up for it this morning.

As for back issues, I believe it's calcium on the spine (arthritis)... yesterday it finally started giving me a bit of sciatic problems. Not bad, but I learned what to do about it.

I'm trying to do my belly on the floor press ups several times a day to help keep the disc in control, and wear down any calcium that might be calcifying the boney bits.

And, with the heat dome, we've finally figured out a way to keep the upstairs cooler. Main level can be 75°, and I can keep the bedroom at 77°, which is just within the sleeping comfort zone for us.

fans.jpg

Fan at the top of the stairs is blowing into the bedroom. The one on the landing is blowing up the stairs. There is a third out of frame, at the bottom of the stairs (a tower fan, on a milk crate to raise it up) and it blows up to the landing.

The previous owner had all of the lower level air returns blocked off, trying to suck all of the hot air from upstairs down. That wasn't working well, so I uncovered them. We do have the two floor vents closest to the thermostat closed off, and the one under my wife's desk, so she doesn't freeze while working. The rest are all open.

Again, this place was built in 1974, so HVAC isn't routed the best.

Not sure what the rest of the day will hold. I'll need a nap sometime. Woke up at 2:30 and didn't go back to sleep.

It's warming up this week after our start of week cold spell. Coldest I saw over night is around 55F or 56F per watch. Was 60F when I got up 45 min ago and now 62F. Should get into low 80s IIRC. Yesterday the high was around 75F. Previous day around 64F. Monday got to around 69F before it dive at 3pm (and ended up getting to 39F that night before the sun came up Tuesday morning).

Some Medicaid info for any members that may want to know in the future. I found out today that's there's 2 separate billing systems for the nursing home my wife has been in since 2/24. If Medicare pays, they owe the nursing home $16,000.00. If I decide to pay the bill privately, I owe $36,000.00. I guess the $525.00 a day is if you pay privately. Medicaid gets a 55% break. On the 33 thousand Northern Westchester Hospital bill Medicare only paid $7,935.84.
Taking a look at what part of any healthcare bill AARP supplemental insurance pays is also an eyeopener. I paid ARRP $312.00 a month for my wife's and $312.00 for mine. That's $7,488.00. a year. AARP biggest payment this year was $1,549.44 payment and that was on a $33 thousand dollar bill. I'm beginning to wonder if the $312.00 a month is even worth it.

Welcome to the rip-off that hospitals and care homes and the like do -- their self-pay prices are really really high but the insurance or government have negotiated much lower prices. They can charge individuals super high prices because there is no competition and no pre-service price disclosures (at least in hospitals) so you can compare and shop. They basically have you and so can jack the price up since you have no choice when you're in the ambulance or ER and need the care. But the insurance companies and government can negotiate in advance and get the break. This is why having the insurance is important even if you have a high deductible -- it gets you the insurance level pricing.

The $312 a month would have been worth it since without the insurance, even though you paid much more than the insurance company did for the serrice in the end (your premiums outweighed what the insurance paid), without it you'r bill itself would have been much much much higher.

The tax abatement hearing this morning didn't go as well as I hoped. After waiting an hour after my appointed time, sitting through several cases ahead of me, I got my say. They didn't budge on the land valuation of $21,352/acre. They also didn't budge on the train shed valuation, but they gave me a year of deferment due to tornado damage. They did remove my barn from the tax roll. I now expect my overall land/house/property taxes on the 14.5 acres, train shed and 4 bedroom house to rise to ~$850 per year from $795! Still inexpensive compared to what most of my friends and relatives in the city pay.

Willie: Geesh, we are at $1700 - minus what the State gives us - $700 this year for just under 3 acres. We can go and file this year for old fart and/or Military Vet. Couldn't before as we made too much $$$ OTR. Should cut in half. No clue if the State will divi up anything when that happens. Oh, and no clue price per acre here.
