Good Morning All. Mostly clear and 72°. Didn't get as warm yesterday as the NWS was forecasting, only 90°, about the same today. No rain close by, but it's over the place in SE Texas and also in the OK Panhandle stretching across parts of Kansas. It's not in the forecast, but chances are improved since I added 1500 gallons of water to the pool yesterday.
Just as I was adding the water to the pool, the crew brought their combines to the wheat field next door. High winds sent a lot of wheat chaff over to the pool. They're usually pretty good about not working that field when prevailing winds might send chaff/dust in my direction, but the foreman told me that they had waited almost too long because of the excessive rain in May. Fortunately I dd not receive the full brunt of airborne crap since the wind was out of the southeast instead of the south and much of it missed me. They also had to cut the wheat lower due to the winds from the recent tornado bending most of the crop over and closer to the ground.
Besides skimming the pool, yesterday was also spent on yard/debris cleanup. My goal is to get one cart load of stuff out to the dumpster each day, and to get one cart load of branches/brush over to the "shred this pile". I did not do any firewood as hoped for.
Later today I have to review documents for my hearing tomorrow morning in regards to my protest of the recent property valuation hike. The assessor has raised the valuation of 13.5 acres of agricultural land by 26%, after an increase of 6% last year. I have documentation from their office itself, that nearby land sold in late 2023 for far less than what he's valuing mine for 2024. I know what the problem is; the valuation did not go up from 2015 until 2023 and I believe that the assessor is making it up this year. Failure to do the job on his part should not penalize me. The assessor himself is not present at the hearing. None of the hearing board members work for the county. It actually boils down to about a $75 increase in my yearly taxes after the agricultural exemption is applied.
Finished up the cardstock house yesterday out in the train shed. Here is the new one next to the old one.
Figures added back.
Planted.
Next on the agenda is to fix that space in the foreground where the plywood surface separated.
Troy - Regarding Walther Cronkite. I think that the thing that impressed me the most was just hearing his voice in our living room.
Swal - Once again, my condolences.
Of course today is Juneteenth. Trivia: Texas was the first state to recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday in 1980.
Everybody have a great day today.
