Being legally deaf....it's the necessary evil to spend on the quality I can get to live life and not miss anything. Sham on our healthcare insurance for not paying a dime for the severely impaired. I have dealt with this my entire life. People think they know and understand but they don't have a clue.

I'm not quite at your point - yet!
Right ear 90% gone, Left ear is about 60% gone. Retirement fund 95% gone (I lost a tom of money back in 2008 - plus my pension was cut 40% when the PBGC took over the administration when the airline went kaput!
I do manage to get by with some of those "cheap" aids from eBay!

Recipes vary, but I like 2 oz of Bourbon with 1/2 oz of Amaretto

A local farm that has an ice cream stand. They grow the strawberries, bake the biscuits, and you can get with or without vanilla custard in between the biscuit.

Good Morning All. Clear and 73°. Another warm one today after reaching 96.5° yesterday. Summer's early this year. Someone at the NWS (the weekend guy???) has re-revised their original revision of the forecast to include thunderstorms back into tomorrow's forecast. Might include Tuesday as well. If their current forecast holds out, we'll see a cool front with highs only in the mid-80's for 2-3 days.

Contractor's were out yesterday morning and finished the trim, fascia and soffit on the train shed. Later in the afternoon, daughter #1 and SIL came by and helped pickup and haul downed branches from the south and east side of the yard. I followed behind them with the mower and mowed all of the places that I couldn't get in the morning. I put over 3 hours on the tractor yesterday. Today, I hope to get the north side and the remaining part of the back yard that I didn't get to yesterday. Made a lot of headway yesterday...nothing like a dry day, finally!

Still missing some stuff from the tornado 2 weeks ago. Haven't found the grass catcher for the push mower yet, or a couple of garden tools. I found one of the metal lawn chairs in the ditch along the other side of the road, but not the second missing one. There's still many pieces of sheet metal roofing from the neighbor's shop scattered in my hayfield, and many of my pieces along with another neighbor's entire home are in the field across the road.

I did not visit the train shed yesterday while entertaining visitors all day.

I didn't realize that the PRGC sucked so badly. But it is slightly better than $0. I too lost a bunch in 2008, which set back retirement by 4 years, but I stuck with it and made it all back, mostly in 2011. Since 2015 when I took over self-management, I increased by 33% without adding to the principle.

Good morning from a chilled Wisconsin. Got off the plane at 1:30am it was 52fdegrees, 59 now heading to 73 with no clouds to be seen anywhere. Even with about 4 hours sleep it’s always wonderful to sleep in your own bed.

The golf was ok on Thursday and Friday and very good on Saturday. Playing with my brother as the golf partner is always an adventure. He is intense, driven and then he’s a complete doofus on the golf course and a joy to play with. He says it’s his way to relieve any pressure he might feel when on the course.

Someone cut the grass around the house so there’s no need for that and it was my only planned activity for today. I will spend some time this morning on the south facing deck just relaxing, probably a with a nap. The daughter has invited me to be their guest chef for dinner tonight at 6. Usually the SIL along with one of his neighbors mans their grills but I was asked.

I can’t wait for the explanation as to what caused the issue with the ore boat on Lake Superior on Saturday morning. The claim is they hit something, but in 700’ of water on a normal route seems fishy to me. Lucky they got to port but I think we may find out it’s metal fatigue. Heck, the ore carrier is 70+ years old. I love watching the ore boats entering harbors in Duluth/Superior they are massive boats

Good morning, cloudy and totally overcast sky today. It will probably rain later. Yesterday i was removing the door panel on my work car since the passengers side window does not go down. Some idiot took out parts of the window lift motor, namely the brushes and connector cable and put the motor/mechanism back in the door like nothing happened. Why do people do that? I had to order a new door lift mechanism with the motor. Thankfully they are still available (1990 Audi 100). Also one wire from the wire harness was broken and corroded right by the connector (to motor). I cleaned and resoldered that, put some insulation on it and now just have to wait for the door lift mechanism to arrive. Went up on the roof after that to seal up some questionable shingles, only to get stung by a couple of yellow jackets. Swollen in two spots, bastards. So i used the black pitch which i had handy to seal their hole in where a couple of siding pieces meet. Knocked out some smaller nests also. Also mixed up some mortar to fill in the holes in the little sidewalk by the mail box.

The black rubner mat is just there temporairly so i wount have to pull out weeds before i get to take care of that. Obviously this little piece still needs attention, but i will not get too fancy there. Not sure what i'll do there yet, but most likely a foil, maybe red, or black mulch and mortared bricks around it to keep it all together. The concrete plates are actually repurposed sidewalk which was in front of the house. Now it looks like this:

I will have to do something with that siding, i absolutely hate white siding, looks trashy to me. Will have to clean it and paint it, i thought about wallnut brown or olive green to hide it in the scenery. In the evening took off for a ride, this is the only picture:

Leymone, and a set of pushers on the former Reading heading toward Hagerstown, Md. The train just crossed Susquehanna River and highway next to it is I83. Today still swollen in two places from those yellow jackets and it's starting to itch, so it's healing.

I just heard about that, it popped up in news on my phone. Sounds like another USS Edmund Fitsgerald issue with hull fatigue. Those ships take a lot of beating while loaded and then having that heavy ore on lake with water beating on the hull.

Good morning all!

Looks to be a pleasant day today with temps in the mid 70s and no rain in the forecast. Have no outdoor chores so, guess it doesn't matter much.

Made the trek yesterday to the pool store and got a new hose for my vacuum port. Came home and made that repair. I got the black hose instead of the blue. I wonder if it will stand up better to the suns UV rays. Willie- I picked up a second one to have around.

In the basement yesterday I didn't feel like laying track, so I chose to start the grain elevator. This is the first of 4 sets of silos to build. Seeing the size of one set, I might only need 3.

Other than that, not much else going on in my world!

Yellow jackets are as mean as they come! I had a good sized nest under my shed a couple of years ago near the pool. They were becoming increasingly aggressive. I ended up calling Orkin to come out and get rid of them. No way I was messing with them. They buzzed me a couple of times just getting the mower out.

Morning folks

47F, light clouds, and showers in the forecast for this afternoon. I finally managed to kill a few weeds yesterday and hope to have a few more join the dearly departed shortly. A blistering 73 is the forecast high for the day.

I spent a little time at the bench yesterday whittling on one of the Mantua 2-6-6-2T's. Like most things that were Mantua, it isn't possible to realistically work all the kinks out and end up with something that matches a specific prototype but I think what is coming together on this one would be a plausible example of something Baldwin could have built. It's sort of an amalgamation of Booth Kelly No 2 and St Paul and Tacoma No 7. I probably should have used a smaller motor as there are some structural engineering issues at the cab/boiler interface that will need more than plastic. But that larger Canon motor/flywheel runs really smoothly.

52F @ 66% still severe clear. Got to 80F yesterday, probably the same today. Yuk.

Well, I have been telling y'all about what I have been doing. Hmmm, pix are worth many words.

Above is where the RV is slated to go. Still have height adjusting and leveling to do, then some gravel on top.

Above is the Front Porch side, with room for parking. Still have yada yada.

Above is looking at the entry to the garage. Other side of tractor is the piling of dirt/rocks for the base. Still have to yada yada. Oh, those piles of gravel on the left and center is what I took off the current driveway to get stuff more or less level with the garage entry. You did notice how we grow rocks?
