Oooops I did it again....I bought another EMD SD70Ace.....I got the elusive Union Pacific 8444 to be able to run behind my UP 844 Steam Locomotive! (both units are Athearn Genesis, the steamer is Tsunami 2 and the SD70Ace is Tsunami 1 which will get changed out to Tsunami2 ASAP as I have the decoder already. Just waiting for delivery) I will post when the Ace arrives on the RPO thread!
Have a good evening ya'll.
I don't know how many who know of D-Day know this, but Eisenhower penned not only the letter of encouragement and hope to the troops ahead of the day, but another letter of resignation and acceptance of ultimate responsibility for the failure had the landings been unsuccessful.

I'll recommend the book: "The Supreme Commander" (Ambrose) should anyone want more, and the film "Ike: Countdown to D-Day" (Tom Selleck), should anyone want more.

And of course "Band of Brothers," which is still my all-time #one.

Good thing I got another bottle at Costco. I'm about out.

I missed posting last night, but #8 was another Black Eyed Susan.

Good morning all It is a sunny day.
A coffee on the go please, Flo.
Dawn has some more equipment to help her breathe through the night. Plastic tubing and machines. We can just get into the bedroom.🤣

Out and about Tyneside to get even more equipment for her, so I had better be on my way.

Well, howdy there internet peeps!

Giving the new 3D printer a workout today. First up, printing some pieces/parts for the orc project.

After that, I want to print this:

Screenshot 2024-06-08 at 7.25.22 AM.png

That's the pieces for a Giant to use in the game. A Storm Giant, to be exact.

I could use some help. The theme of this project is "Swift Forged" as in pop star Taylor Swift, but I'm working in some other rock bands. For instance, one of the next models I'm working on is a group of "Thunderseers"...

Of course, I'll be modifying the cyclops models with their big clubs into Angus, Malcom, and Brian doing a great rendition of Thunderstruck!

I toyed with the idea of of modifying the giant to be Angus... but that's more work than I'm after.

Can you think of a rock icon or very popular song (beyond Thunderstruck) that I could modify the giant into? I debated with Freddie Mercury for Bohemian Rhapsody (Thunderbolts and Lightning, very very frightening)... But I'm not sure that's recognizable.

Another thought was Elton or Bowie from the the Glam Rock days... hmmmmm????

If you've got another idea, let me know.

Good Morning All. Clear and 77° to start our Saturday morning. Quite humid as well, but at least there's a light breeze. It's been over 72 hours now since I have had any rain!!! Maybe the real summer has arrived. 95° seems to be the magic number for the high lately and will continue today. Meanwhile the rain has been removed from Monday's forecast and moved back to Tuesday/Wednesday, however accurate that may be.

Yesterday I got the new pool ladder installed and immediately got in. Water's been warm enough for a few days now. The ladder was slated for replacement before the tornado, and not damaged by it. I was able to remove the last of the tornado debris and got the regular pool vacuum going. Water is still just a bit cloudy, and it will take a few more days to filter it all out, but that doesn't prevent us from using it. Remember that it is more clear than any ocean or lake! Most of my yard is now dry and I'll start mowing today. Daughter #1, her husband and our granddaughter are coming up today or tomorrow to assist in the cleanup effort now that is dry. Primarily they will gather up branches, as I have gotten most of the "trash" debris already. Contractor team will be out this morning to finish the train shed roof trim. Their ladders will still sink, so I told him to bring some scrap plywood to set under the feet.
I filled out my online FEMA application yesterday; I'll go visit them next week at the center that they set up 6 miles away. Since I'm having to pay income taxes again, I might as well get something back towards the train shed repairs and the soon to be tree remediation $$$. OH! And a simple note, the dumpster guy moved it back into it's normal position, thus shortening the trip out and back. And also getting it away from the main road out front so there isn't a tendency for the general public to use it.

Life continues out in the train shed. I meant to post these pictures of the revitalized rooming house yesterday.

Here's the repaired loading dock for the feed store. I haven't attached it yet as I make the roof repairs.

The slight gap was there before and isn't noticeable on the layout.
And I did get the roof flattened out and reattached. And I found that piece of missing trim; it was on the workbench.

Both structures will return to their homes today or whenever I get out there next.
I also ran a couple more trains to continue verifying that all engines are working after getting wet.

Grizzled - I have to chuckle about your heat wave comment. 78° for a high? We're lucky it gets that low here at night.
Mike - It does seem like those hoses on the pool equipment have a rather short useful life. My wife complains when I purchase 2 or 3 at a time, but it has saved a 50 mile round trip several times in the past.

Everyone have a great Saturday.

Bought a ticket for home opener football game a month ago. Should be a nice warm afternoon at the park on June 8, right?
Nope- Wind, rain, & a forecast high of 7 C !! Think I'll eat my ticket & stay home & watch game on tely, warm, dry & beer much cheaper.
So we have baseball at 1:30, football at 2, hockey at 6.

FEMA, use it, that is what it’s there for. Glad the recovery is moving along for you?

Good morning. It’s the last day of golf for me here on Kiawah Island.

What a truly beautiful area that Terry and I looked at years ago as a retirement place. With the hurricane possibilities, not much medical, being too far from the grandkids and other than golf not much to do, we ruled it out. This is the last event until July when there are 2 and both of them will be in Wisconsin. For you golfers out there, we will be at Sand Valley near Nekoosa (old stomping grounds for me) and than in the Lake Geneva area playing and 50 miles from home.

Using a stylus on the cell phone isn’t too bad. I should be on my IPad in the morning from home

Recovery for me has been smooth so far, the muddy ground held up parts of it though. The multitude of downed trees is daunting, but the tree service can make things happen quickly once their ladders don't sink into the ground. About half of what I will want them to do, I could do myself, but I would move more slowly and there is stuff inside the train shed that I could be doing instead.
Going better for me than the next door neighbors whose whole house was demolished. I had the train shed re-roofed within 6 days. Two weeks after the incident, the demolition crew just showed up next door. Their daughter and SIL behind them still have a tarp over their missing roof, waiting on an insurance company approved contractor.
