Good-ish morning

It's 59° F and Dark right now. More updates if warranted.

I made the mistake of ordering a medium roast coffee because it was lower acid than their normal range.

Bleh. Not a fan of medium roasts.

Mom is complaining about the coffee at her facility. My guess is someone switched them to Medium roast. Folks her age are much more used to dark roasts. Heck, so is my age.

Time to go find the honey, and add some. Cream and sweet if you can't have the dark roast.

Being legally deaf....it's the necessary evil to spend on the quality I can get to live life and not miss anything. Sham on our healthcare insurance for not paying a dime for the severely impaired. I have dealt with this my entire life. People think they know and understand but they don't have a clue.
James when I arrived at Parris Island in 1965 everyone had to take a hearing test among other things. They told me I failed mine and they were thinking about sending me home. They told me I couldn't hear high pitches like fire alarms. They didn't send me home, but I still can't hear high pitch sounds. I was working at IBM back in the early nineties. A very high-pitched computer alarm went off and I can't remember what it was for, but I didn't hear it. My partner says an alarm is going off. I said, what alarm?

Good morning. It's 76 and clear.
Several of us are currently connected to generators, since the main breaker for our section had a meltdown. It was an extremely uncomfortable evening and night, with at first no power and 96 degrees, later enough power to operate one of my two air conditioners. It finally caught up with the temps around 3 this morning. No word yet how long before things return to normal. I'll give them a clue: there are eight units in our section, each drawing 50 amps of power. The 250 amp breaker WILL melt again, sooner rather than later...

Good morning all. A sunny day. The weather guys are covering themselves with 'It may rain later'.

Rant: Waiting for x-ray results. Dawn rang yesterday afternoon. X-ray results not available ( though the x-ray department is downstairs) Taking more than two weeks to go upstairs???
Miracle Medicine Then the story of being prescribed a course of tablets by the doctor. 14 tablets one a day. 13 days and no relief. Contact doctor. He says the course is for 14 days. Does that mean the14th tablet is a miracle one? I can guarantee it isn't, though the doctor thinks it is.
Rant Over.

Time for a late coffee.

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 70°. It's been ~48 hours since the last rain! None in the forecast until Monday/Tuesday. Supposed to get to 93° today after 95° yesterday. That's 35°C for all of our non-US members. I think that we may have set a record high for this date in our area yesterday.
Part of my yard dried out yesterday, which should allow me to start mowing again. As of Tuesday, we have received a rainfall total that is equal to our average yearly total of 33". And we still have October coming up which is historically our second wettest month of the year. Unfortunately most of that rainfall is in the lake across the road, and won't return in July/August when we need it!

The weekly grocery trek went as planned and my wife stayed home so it went more quickly. I may have posted before, when we go grocery shopping, she shops; I have a list and I don't deviate so it goes quicker. The Vitamin Shoppe was having a buy one, get one free sale on their brand names; so I got a few extra. Gasoline prices are still dropping a bit, many places are at $2.79/gal. Liquid chlorine at Home Depot went up a bit since I stocked up earlier in the year, not much, just 15¢/gal. It's still about $1.50 /gal cheaper than at the pool specialty stores. The hearing aid tech fixed the app on my new phone to round off the trip.

Finished assembling the pool ladder/steps yesterday, but haven't installed them yet. The uprights need to be cut back a few inches to fit properly. I took the pool water to be tested, and all chemicals are within range, I just have to give it a little more time for the cloudiness to clear up. But it is usable right now with a water temperature of 80°. I'll be getting in this afternoon after installing the steps. That will allow me to get the final tornado debris out that I can't reach with the net from the sides.

Just a short time out in the train shed yesterday, but somewhat productive. I still have a handful of structures scattered about the workbench that I am fixing. The rooming house seems to be doing OK. Another laser-cut wood structure with water damage is Wayne's Feeds.

The trim piece is also missing here.

Besides the warped roof, the loading dock had separated and moved a bit over 3/16".

I removed it and separated the pieces for reconstruction. The roof pieces are currently under weights.

Todd - Congratulations on the good doctor report. My bad cholesterol is generally under the limit, but my good is usually sky-high for some reason. My BP though, is always high in his office.
Nice looking location for a restaurant; all of them around here are getting a little spendy as well.
Regarding the new phone, I visited the T-Mobile guys next to the hearing aid place inside Sam's Club and one rep showed me an easier way to delete apps that I didn't want. The new phone protectors/covers arrived from Amazon last night around 8:30.
Troy - Get well soon. Perhaps Murphy has an evil brother residing at your place. First the tinnitus, then the back, now the knee! We all know that Murphy himself has been attached to Terry for the last 10 years.;)
David - Maybe you should have taken the 14th tablet first!;)

Everyone have a great day.

Morning folks

The heat wave has arrived. The forecast high is 78F. Currently 53 under mostly clear sky and 1.1 mph downslope wind. I guess it's time to mix a batch of spray for the backpack sprayer and go make my body hurt. Enthusiasm inc.

I received a Walther's order yesterday which included the 16 oz Tru Color thinner that was packed in a plastic bag with several other items. That bottle was down to 12 to 13 oz and made a pretty good mess of everything else in that bag. Apparently good help is hard to come by these days.

Good morning all!

Happy Friday!

Should be a pleasant, but another very windy day today. I have an emergency pool repair this morning. I heard leaking water and upon investigation found one of the flexible hoses from my vacuum port had sprung a leak. They only seem to last a couple of years and I believe this is year 3 for this hose. It seems they don't last long in the summer sun!. I wont be able to source this locally, so off to the pool store at some point. I have a plug in it for now.

Other than that not much going on. Still have a little trimming left from yesterday, but should be pretty free of household chores this weekend.

Have a safe day everyone!

Good Morning All!

49F @ 70% with severe clear. Got to 75F yesterday, should get to that or above today - yuk.

Somewhat back to normal ( what ever that is ). Need 3 more pieces of wall board/sheet rock which I will go to Troy and get after posting this. Will take camera JIC.

Sitting on the tractor yesterday got almost all of the area we are putting the RV cleared. Moving rocks/dirt to the garage area to get ready to level that. Will flatten the RV area after I take out some smaller trees ( 6" trunks and smaller) . Haven't had to use the chain saw for them, tractor is able to push them down. They are not big enough to 'de-limb' with the tractor as they just slide along on the ground. 8ft tops are some neat looking Fir Christmas trees if any body is interested - free with delivery!

Fun stuff: Dogs would not come when called early evening as they were in bark mode with blinders on. Jake's shock collar had depleted so binging him did not get attention. Jake managed to chew through Lizzy's collar and brought the shock device to us earlier in the day; who knows where the clasp thingie is. So, since they would not come to us, we blocked the doggie door and left them outside for the night. Had water outside, but no food. When I got up a bit ago, they were sitting at the back door with the strangest look on faces. 1st thing was put face in food dish. Hmm, maybe something clicked? Jake is now about 3 inches taller than Lizzy with about the same mass. Ya, mini Aussie ... right! His feet are getting bigger again, so another growth spurt is in order. He is 8 Months ifn I remember correctly. He still is a busy boy, and will chew anything. Goes out with a toy in his mouth, looses it, and comes back with another toy. Maria has hair bands all over the house and if we forget to hide the remote, have to find that too. Funny thing is he is not interested in shoes and that is a good thing; dish towels are another story as we have 'church going towels' now. Note that most of the toys have stuff missing now .. legs/arms, stuffing, eyes and noses. Will try and get pix of Jake/Lizzy a little later.

Ed Dickens, manager of Union Pacific’s heritage operations, glances at the PTC screen mounted in the cab of Big Boy No. 4014. The screen is situated so both engineer and fireman can read it while the locomotive is in operation. The new system, recently installed, will allow operation without a trailing diesel locomotive. Bob Lettenberger

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — This week the Union Pacific made a short run with 4-8-8-4 No. 4014 to test the new PTC system installed on the locomotive. While Big Boy has operated with a LeaPTC system since 2021, says a UP statement, the new equipment permits operation without support of a diesel locomotive.

The original PTC system installed on the world’s largest operating steam locomotive utilized the computer aboard the diesel locomotive. The new system, similar to that installed on CPKC No. 2816, is self-contained. Although the diesel locomotive is no longer needed for Big Boy to travel, it is not certain if the steam locomotive will be permitted to travel without such support. The diesel locomotive was also present for added braking capability.

Big Boy’s new PTC equipment travels in a cabinet on the side of its tender.

When No. 4014 made its restored debut in 2019, it did not carry PTC equipment. The FRA granted a waiver for the locomotive to operate in PTC territory even without the system. Big Boy became the first mainline steam locomotive with PTC after a 2021 installation of the equipment.

Welp... Murphy can go find some else to mess with.

This morning I decided I'd keep the new printer, and try to sell off the old one. But that means cleaning off the table where the resin printers live. Everything is treated as contaminated. I've got a total of 4 tubs/bins with contaminated IPA. I was able to empty the small one and clean it out. The other three went on the concrete floor, out of the way (famous last words)

Yep, I kicked one of the tubs trying to move something else. and it went sideways. Fortunately, it was the least filled. Unfortunately, I had to get down on the knees, grab some nitrile gloves and used almost an entire roll of paper towels.

One cardboard box full of wood scraps from the MRR benchwork was trashed, as was the lowest layer of wood, and a couple 2ft sticks of 1x2.

Only took an hour to get it to the point where I could use the swiffer wetjet on the floor. I did discover that spraying IPA around weakens the glue holding the velcro strips on the wetjet pads. I needed to change them anyway. No sense smearing the same dirt around. Then change them again. and again.

Finally get to the point where I can head to the patio and read the instructions for the new printer, and one of the cables holding the canopy up snapped. We've had some pretty strong wind today, and that cable was starting to wear.

Oh, well, I have a couple of spares. Another half and hour down replacing it.

Pour a little Larceny on it 👿👿👿
That wasn't where I poured the Larceny!
