Please notice, there are many of us who do indeed post our work, I came here and stayed because of the coffee shop and the welcome here and the fun, I THEN started posting my work and chatting,in fact chatting and bothering to look at others thread because they post here, usually I just se.fishy show off my work and ignore anything outside my own layout,in my opinion the coffee shop is the true heart of this forum, and surely we are doing now harm, since I have been here we have cough receruited others heee and there continue posting and spend time here and we make friends and encourage others in their work, would I have known about Willies vast wonderland no,would I have TLOCs superb skills to push me to improve maybe but his insights are worthy of looking at and I only even bothered because he posts here, Smudge Troy NorthBrit,No one is stopping you from posting and talking about every day life in the coffee shop - no one. But if you think or feel that posting your hobby railway things in an appropriate thread so every one can enjoy them/it is asking too much then so be it.
Sorry wombat I like you but I agree with troyI must respectfully disagree, unfortunately. I read Tony's post not as an "ask" but as a Mod commanding. The red letters make it rather official.

That dropped like a bolt out of nowhere. Use of all caps, red text, and command words softened by a single "please" have this in the TELL category.
Could this have been handled better, and avoided the feel-badsies? Yep.
Now we deal with the fallout of people NOT sharing their work because of being commanded to post such elsewhere.
Nope I agree with chad ag in it because of these updates that I have gone and looked at people threadSo your saying, I, and anyone else in the same position, that already has a layout, it would be appropriate for us to post "updates" (because that's what they are), of our work regarding the layouts, and mines only up to 17 pages, in the coffee shop?
Agreed Willie is a foundation here in my opinion, and one of the reasons ilike coming here, honestly we may not be following the rules strictly BUT look at the atmosphere here, friendly, engaged, off topic AND encouraging people back to the railway topics, some forums are so strict you cannot have a laugh, but you are going to rip this to shreds and if you force people out of here they will drift to where they can repeat this, and I for one will follow in a heart beat.A simple solution for those who don't want to know the weather, what my wife is growing in her garden boxes, how Chad's house is coming along, what kinds of cars we drove, etc.
When one such person finds the coffee shop, sticks long enough to see that someone posts a lot of train pics in here, but gets offended by Willi's Onions and Green Beans... they can simply note the poster they want to follow.
Every morning/afternoon/whenever they open their crypt and log in here:
Go to the Members tab of the blue bar:
Find the name of the prolific poster you want to see photos from

After you click the Ol' Buzzard's name, you'll find the profile
Clicking either of the two options I've circled brings up a rather nice list of posts.

Let's all click on The Ol' Buzzard's Latest Activity option...
and Wah-LA! (insert magical assistant flourish)

Pretty darn easy to find Willie's pic without looking at my wife's strawberries I posted about earlier.
As for Rules... This is what I found:

Not sure where the Coffee Shop Rules are? They don't seem to get made anew, or follow along with each month's iteration thread. So Tony's post was a lightning bolt out of the blue that derailed one of the best parts of this place.
Will be really sad to see you go, as a DCC layout I have the will to appreciate dc and really much older kit, there are just so many fascinating as;eats of this hobby, and nobody in my opinion should be forced to go for the latest options,we forget our past at our peril, you came back as I came in and I will be really sad, if you or indeed anyone from here who leaves finds an alternative home where we can still interact pls update me, I wonder if we could drag bnfs to stop the bunfights when we get Larry on politics and religion.I left this forum years ago due to it being selectively moderated and having a couple of as was stated in another post as "grouchy old farts telling me I had no business here if I couldn't afford to do a DCC railroad". I was asking too many questions trying to figure it out I guess, So I removed all my posts and moved on.
Cut to a few years back, I came back on, under a new name. Sherrel recognized my former name and welcomed me back. I'd been happy and played nice ever since.
With what looks to myself and others as moderator overreach, I will be taking a break from here as well.
Great ideaWillies share your layout update thread and we can pile in there, then it is his thread his rules, we may need a table or two to park our arses and find a kind person willing to make coffee and um breakfastAs a computer programmer myself my pet peave is I can't fix it if you didn't tell me it's broke. Likewise it's nice to know how people are using your website.
It appears that we all come to this website for different reasons. Some for the social and some for the technical assistance and some for, a place to share their work.
I've appreciated this site because I've found it to be supportive and tolerant.
Regarding the coffee shop. I don't have a lot of time so I end up missing a lot of the posts because I don't have time to read them, but I do undersand others have more time since they are probably at a different stage in life.
I typically like to visit the Forums -> New Post link to see what other questions and discussions are out there that might peak my interest. I enjoy the layout shots like Willie's.
So maybe another similar thread focusing on layout updates might be good.
So my recommendation is don't be grumpy and go away but work it out.
The problem is that Tony's post came out of nowhere, with no warning, in VERY FIRM language.Great ideaWillies share your layout update thread and we can pile in there, then it is his thread his rules, we may need a table or two to park our arses and find a kind person willing to make coffee and um breakfast
Let's just wait a while. there may well be things going on behind the scenes we are not aware of.I think there are 4 responses to this new edict. Hopefully we could mostly get behind either #2 and/or #3
#1. Be good doobies. Participate as before without model train related posts.
#2. Civil disobedience. Everyone start posting an over abundance of model train related pics.
#3. Everyone start posting tons of inane and harmless pics like Guy’s rock and the bologna sandwich you’re having for lunch (in perfect social media tradition).
#4. Just leave.
We have two active mods and one's Tony, that's hardly a team.I'm disappointed in the mod team that this hasn't been walked back yet
Sounds like it's time for more.We have two active mods and one's Tony, that's hardly a team.
Careful what you wish for Troy.Sounds like it's time for more.
If the No MRR pics in the Shop rule is rolled back,

If not, then I don't. It's not a rule I feel comfortable enforcing based on the tradition of following in Running Bears's Photo Footsteps.
Ugh rather you than me I handed over my faceache modelling page before I strangled someoneSounds like it's time for more.
