Everything Hungarian you buy here in the states is either not the same or not fresh.
That applies to almost anything that is supposedly another countries. Most supposedly "foreign foods" are actually made here under licence, for example Tim Tams and believe me, the Tim Tams made here also taste differently to those made back in Oz. I think the same applies to Fosters Beer - I think that is also made here under licence - not that it matters, I never liked the stuff anyway :)

It also works the other way as well Mc Doogles tastes totally different in Oz than it does here. Both taste like the Brown Sauce you were thinking of mate, but none the less - a little different.

Anyway, the point is I doubt any country actually gets anything that is truly made in that products home country; although, there could be some I suppose such as Wegmans claiming they sell Lamb from Australia - I'm not so sure about that either .

Isn't the habanero the hottest pepper in the world?

The currrent hottest pepper in the world according to Google is the "Carolina Reaper", which is a habanero family variant (cross of a habanero and some other pepper called a Naga Viper, which is itself a cross with some other peppers, all or most all of which seem to be in the habanero family) so yes, in a generic sense as all of these hot "breeds" of peppers are habanero family.

Just a note: if buying Japanese mayonnaise buy Kewpie brand, and make sure it is imported from Japan and not the local Kewpie USA made stuff. The Japanese made stuff is much better as it has MSG in it :) Japanese mayo is awesome.

If you want the real stuff from a country you need to go to the specialty stores. They import the stuff (not always legally -- see the recent Cadbury law suits etc) and you'll get the original packaging with the "Made in Australia" or "Made in the United Kingdom" and stuff like that. And not their locally licensed version. (Again, see Cadbury)

Asian stores, Mexican stores, etc are good places to get the original products

They can't really claim that it comes from Australia and lie to you. That would be too easy to prove and then they'd have a lawsuit.

Its when they DON'T claim where it comes from that you need to worry...

The best thing about the banana peppers, jalapenos, pepperocini, etc is the vinegar and how it mixes with the pepper and hotness. I love pepperocini. And I love the banana and other sliced and pickled peppers from the deli on a sub/grinder/hoagy or on a salad.

Each person has a different tolerance and likes/dislikes. And that's the way it should be. Would be a boring world if we all ate the same stuff.

speaking of brown sauce. (I don't know if I've had it [true brown sauce] before but 15 years or so ago I was on a mail list discussion list that was focused on Apple Mac OS X and related technologies -- most members had been using it since the NeXT days or way early OS X days -- and the discussion came up about bacon and how best to eat it. First, am I right to think that UK is more a "back bacon" compared to the cut used in the US? (More like "Canadian Bacon than US bacon?) Anyway, the argument came down to "brown sauce" vs BLT (bacon lettuce and tomato). It was funny and I still remember it for the humor of "arguing" about bacon -- especially when the bacon may not even have been exactly the same thing -- by a bunch of computer nerds.
Mentioning 🥓 I'm giving to understand that the US prefers it's Bacon crispy, true ?

I'm off to bed. I'm sparing you from more pompous and long drivel tonight ;)🤣

Tonight I was trying to help a friend archive his Google drive for his non profit and was downloading GB after GB of stuff in small chunks since Google Drive would fail on the "zip" portion if I selected too many (too big) files at once. And one of his folders was organized such that I had to manually do this in small chunks. Mindless and frustraying. Between that and a work server going offline so I can't finish my testing I was doing of a bug for tomorrow and I got distracted here while I was waiting...

I love McDonalds! The quarter pounder is dollar for dollar the best burger you can buy.

I can't say if it is the same, but Australian and New Zealand Lamb is fantastic!

If the name "Carolina Reaper" is not enough of a warning what is?

yes. hell yes. (Though if you over do it it gets more than crispy -- gets really crunchy and breaks up and is not that good and can even taste "burnt" without visible signs of being burned).

According to this

UK bacon is mostly back bacon, which appears more like plain old "pork" to me than bacon. How is it cured?

As an aside on your original question, my wife, who is from Japan, does not like it crispy (though she'll eat it that way if need be) and always wants what we call "raw" bacon when we cook it. It looks almost raw and is very floppy (but is technically cooked fully as it is thin and doesn't need to be heated that long to cook and kill germs). I make pig "oinking" sounds when I serve it to her.

To be honest - considering Mr Wegmans unbelievable IRS problems (he kinds forgot to pay taxes ) I really believe that someone buys lambs from Australia transports them here, butchers them here for places like Wegmans (who seriously wouldn't give a damn about lying if it meant making more money) who then claim it is Australian Lamb - for example.

Now that may sound like a lot of work to go to BUT it would be a heck of a lot cheaper and much easier to get through customs than trying to bring already butchered sides of Lamb or Lamb Chops or Roast Lamb.

I'm not saying that IS what they do, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they did do that or similar.

Costco (in my area) also sells Australian lamb. I suspect it is slaughtered and packed in Australia and sent here already packed with appropriate US compatible labeling etc. US sends beef and chicken all over the world as well. (In fact, look up "Chicken tax" to learn why all trucks in the US are made in the US).

Costco in Japan sells Australian Beef and for a while, with all the back and forth about mad cow, you couldn't get US beef in Japan. But the last few times we were there we saw US beef at Costco and other places (like Ikinari Steak -- steak restaurant chain).

I think you'll find Louis that the American A-1 is just that, the American version of the Brits and Aussies HP - same or similar stuff, different name:)
Ah... A-1 Sauce... invented at the beginning of the American Civil War... because when brother is killing brother, the world needs a great brown sauce!

And the inventor was a Brit!

Morning all,

Bacon...The only reason to eat a salad on bread with mayonnaise!

Supposed to be 88° today. Not looking forward to this evening as I have to assist the local daughter's family in burying a pet they lost last night. They adopted this smaller Miniature Pincher about a year ago and in the past couple of months found she had a bad heart condition. After being at the vet with her yesterday as she wasn't doing well, she was found about 7:30 last night. Grandson is away at Space Camp and won't be told until he gets picked up as they want him to enjoy his camp experience. The granddaughter was taking it hard as she really liked the dog. I reminded her that we all wish we had more time with things we love, but remember the fun she had and be glad she was able to help give the dog a good home that she may not have had before being taken to the shelter. She was an easy going dog.

Back to work...BBL
