Bass Pro and Cabela's merger a few years back. Seen one you've now seen the other...LOL

Wichita tried for years to get a Bass Pro shop and ended up with a Cabela's. Then a year or so later the 2 merged, and now most of what's at the Cabela's is the same as Bass Por. Not that that's bad, just different.

Currently 100° with a feels like of 102°.

FYI.....

It wasn't a merger. Johnny Morris bought Cabela's out right for $5 Billion cash.....I have traveled all over the country, I like going to these store as I am an outdoorsman. https://sbj.net/stories/cabelas-discloses-closure-date-for-buyout-by-bass-pro,55412

I choose to shop there as I do not condone Field & Stream and Dick's political getting involved in the arena and the anti 2nd Amend sentiments etc. Anyways I find that the Cabela's is gear more for the outdoors and hunting more so than Bass Pro as Bass Pro is more to fishing. My 2 cents.

EDIT: So... Bass Pro is not publicly traded. It is privately owned by Johnny Morris lock, stock & barrel!

Well last night I got home and did my laundry after emptying my suitcase etc. I had a little dinner then I realized I was tired. So I had a night cap early and called it. I didn't have the energy to sit and post pictures. I think I will tonight. Sorry about that!

At the office today to play catch up and review a few things.

Ya'll have a good day!

Good Morning All. Mostly clear and 76° here this morning. Only supposed to get to a moderate 97° today, same as yesterday when it didn't get as hot as forecast. The heat is moving east for now. Pool temperature was all of the way up to 89° yesterday, this morning it is a more comfortable 85°. Clear skies and moderate wind helped it cool off.

Visit to the dental hygienist yesterday was OK, pretty much routine. I talked with my dentist for a bit, as he was in between oral surgeries. He raises Texas Longhorns just outside of the town where he practices.
Too hot to do any labor intensive chores outside, so I did a few "honey please" chores inside. Picked a few veggies before I went to the dentist.

Thanks everybody for the comments and reactions yesterday; Karl, Tom O, Smudge, Troy, Guy, Steve J, Patrick, Louis, Hughie, Mikey, James, Dave B, Joe, Greg, Curt, Tom, Rick, OB Ken, Gary.

One would think that I would be spending more time out in the train shed with the hot weather lately, but surprisingly no. It seems that time in the pool is cutting into train time! I spent most of two hours actually running trains with just a little time on projects. I sent the eight raccoons to the paint booth for primer and I painted some on Dotty on her air mattress.

That's a brown sun bonnet on her back. I have to decide how to dress her! She will not be naked as I already have too many naked people for the layout. Here's the choices that you can help me decide. 1) Gym shorts and tee shirt, 2) Standard bathing suit, 3) Thong bikini, 4) String bikini???
Let's see your opinion.

Todd - Would that be Cardinal Glass?
Tom O - I'll be ordering from Miniprints again. Yes indeed they are fragile which is something that I will get used to. It is no wonder that some of the items are not made by other manufacturers. I broke one leg on one of the armadillos, but it isn't going to be a problem since they are going into rough areas where it won't be noticeable. It looks like one of my raccoons is missing its tail which I will contact Bernard about. Regarding the raccoons. Someone here posted a comment about their faces; I don't anticipate a real issue with the faces, it's the mottled black, gray and white bodies that I foresee a problem painting. Depending on the level of detailing that you desire, the eagles might be the same.
Dave B - Interesting piece of property with all of the ponds and wildlife. My pond generally dries up every summer, but still draws lots of different waterfowl when it has water in it.
James - I was going to ask if you got to see Alliance Yard, then you answered a couple of paragraphs later. Whataburger is the only fast food establishment that I patronize, about once a month. I am guessing that you didn't make it over to Discount Model Trains? You didn't mention it.
Curt - I am still amazed by my first visit to Florida 60 years ago when I saw all of the screened in backyards! I understand why though. It caused problems for us at the window company occasionally after hurricanes struck. We would have trouble getting screen wire for our screens because Floridians would buy up the supply at much higher prices than we could or would afford; and the wire manufacturers would divert their product over to there and take advantage of the quick profits!
Hughie - All of those engines being stored in Galveston are destined to be sold for scrap, but I don't know when or to whom. They have been there since before 2020, most likely going overseas for the scrapping.
Troy - Gas stoves always work if you have a match. Ovens don't work without electricity for the thermostat.

Today is Army Birthday, Flag Day and National Bourbon Day. Take your pick
Everybody have a great day.

Sitting at the coffee shop (Panera) after dropping the wife off at her sister's condo (they have power, we don't). Wife doesn't need me and sister's partner both bugging her. So I now have real coffee (as opposed to in the dark pourover and hope I use enough water). And a cinnamon roll. Because, well, I deserve it.

Damage in the neighborhood is mostly trees split. The local airport (with an Air Force Reserve wing) recorded gusts up to 98 mph last night...

Here's some of the pics

Somewhere with one of those wind gusts, one corner of our canopy over the patio snapped loose. Broke the board it was attached to at that corner. Seems there's some rot on the board, so no wonder. Fortunately, our building is supposed to get new siding and trim "boards" the concrete-infused plastic whatever stuff that lasts 50 years

Willie -

I ran out of time to go the hobby shops or Discount Model Trains unfortunately. I did see the Alliance yard and quite a few other areas of RR yards. Sure did enjoy seeing all the activities. Got some pictures I will share later.

Whataburger....when I was going to college in Tallahassee me and my room mate both had 1st gen Camaros. He had a Burgundy Red with black hockey stripes 1968 RS 327 with nitrous and I had a Forest Green solid 1969 SS 427. We were always getting attention from everywhere. The people around us were like "Ya them Chevy Camaro boys look out!" lol I post that pic later too. Anyways we always went to the monthly car show at Whataburger and they had it set up where they brought food to your cars etc. Cool car hop at the time! Lots of memories!

Good morning all,

65 and cloudy. We are on the northern edge of the heat dome, may see storms but not the xtreme heat.

Noticed whitetail buck with velvet antlers this morning, amazing how they grow those every summer.

TROY- glad you got the coffee on, send a cup my way

More later, Dave LASM

Ugh - - calling for a high of 97F (36C) in Minneapolis today. Way too hot for us snowbirds. Gonna make the day's nine holes a little less fun. But still going. No kilt today, though. Even with a wool blend, don't need 2-1/2 pounds strapped of material around my waist!

Not much done in the train room. Still rethinking my loop-interior. But I do have a tech problem:

I have to get to these light bulbs and change them. One is burnt-out. I will change them to daylight LEDs and will do both at the same time - but I have to get to them. Any ideas? Wife suggested cutting a hole from the closet and covering it.

Yes, I knew that would be a problem when I put that deck all the way back into that alcove - - but since I had not changes those bulbs in six years, was hoping the problem would be a ways out yet. But alas . . . So any ideas helpful.

I am thinking a sheet of plywood laid over the track and cut around the roundhouse. That should distribute the weight enough to prevent damage to the foam base, but will it damage/move the tracks?

Well, whilst you cogitate upon that, here's a rare garden pic for me:

The peonies are looking nice this year. Though today's 97F will no doubt put the hurt on them.

Good morning from So. Central Wisconsin. It is great to have the NWS acting like my mother would have!

I think I woke up too late again this morning. 8:15AM which is 2.25 hours later then normal. Just south of the house and maybe 1/2 mile away and across the county road is a now finished rental and condo complex. 150 acres we sold 3 summers ago and 50 acres was completed built and moved into last summer. Landscaped this Spring and the landscapers are now out cutting grass. It felt like every mower they started was outside my house. Very loud as I sit out on the deck. It wasn’t this loud during the construction phase.

Willie, I almost asked todd the same question if it was Cardinal Glass. Great minds and all that…

Troy, never good to be without electricity and have a cinnamon roll for me. Probably my #1 favorite breakfast snack and the most prohibitive for this diabetic. Have only had one since before Thanksgiving in 2021. I truly had a list on my phone where the best bakeries in Wisconsin are that sell them. Before Covid Terry and I traveled the State going to all the top rated breakfast joints and it then morphed into a list of Cinnamon Roll bakeries and Chocolate Shoppes.

James, I never got the car bug you had or that my dad, brother and daughter got. But, those sound like nice cars. I can comment on car hops and it’s a truly sad missing element in this post Covid world

Mmmm, if you can, use steps or chair and a single plank, probably have to re position it get to the un-blown one, but shouldn't move the track either way. Nice garden, fresh flowers for the house, always a bonus.

Willie, our ponds held water all last summer during the drought. The murky pond is the highest in elevation and spring fed, I believe.

There is downhill flow from there through the others. They were about a foot low during the drought.

GUY- aware of any fires in western Canada, seems a faint smoke smell in the air here.

Steve, if you place some blocks of wood between your tracks throughout the area you have to access that should protect the track, letting your plywood rest on the wood.

Good Morning!
55F out there in cloud, so it's nice and warm. The guessers keep threatening rain, but, I haven't seen any yet. Calgary id battening down the hatches for an anticipated flood, but, I don't think so. I believe it's just mass hysteria.

I have done quite a-bit of detail painting; just not enough to make photos interesting. I'm not sure if I like detail painting.
I have it in my mind to put down a rust colour enamel as a base on metal, then top the enamel with the primary acrylic colour. This allows me to use alcohol for rubbing off some of the acrylic primary, and show some weathering. - It takes a long time, because the enamel must get a proper dry-time.
Anyway, a photo I took 5 mins ago. The steps leading up to the yard office:
OilDeal_06-14-2022.JPG

Still being worked on!

Willie - Nice air-mattress lady. I believe she would be wearing a bikini of limited material, if she is sunbathing. - Mind you, up here she'd have to wear a seal skin parka..

I won't be coming in for coffee much, if my projects arn't photo ready. I just feel better if I've got evidence that I'm working the hobby, and I have photos of something.

The experts are calling for a month worth of rain. Should prove interesting if it's true.

Have a great day!

Temp is Spain is set to hit 41c or 140F, this week, that's a tad warm even for Spain. Hopefully, at least some of it will head in our direction.

So 140F is 60C
41C is 105.8 or about 106F

Still pretty hot. We usually hit that a couple times in Utah but mostly are upper 90s and low 100s (just under that) as our high points. I don't know how Spain is but we are pretty dry (not as dry as Las Vegas). Which makes it less uncomfortable than, say, Florida at 100F

This morning, still in the middle of the night, it was 39F and by the time I got up at 7:50am it was 43F. Now 46F. High today is supposed to be low 60s, similar to yesterday, and Sunny. It rained yesterday until aftertnoon when it cleared up (and that is when it reached the 60s). Got stormy and rainy again last night, but is supposed to now be cleared up. 90s again by Thursday or Friday. Just like last weekend. Strange weather for June. Most cold fronts with rain in June aren't this cold. No complaints as it means the house is cooler and not running A/C

Big storm last night. Power is out across the city. Wondering how to make coffee

Yes. While I am based in Utah my job is based in Ft Wayne and most of the non-India team is there. All sorts of reports in our morning standup about power out, trees down blocking roads or onto houses, etc. Also lots of chatter from FW on the internal chat. Seems pretty bad. Some guys have power and some don't. The office building has power so they are all at work.

The local airport (with an Air Force Reserve wing)

Nice airport. With only 1/2 dozen gates never a security wait. Last time I was there the A-10s were coming in to land so I just watched for 15 minutes as they landed one after the other. In the rental lot you are not that far from the runway (relatively) speaking so it was cool to watch them. Not the first time I've watched them while there. (Not been there in almost 3 years thanks to Covid -- no work travel).

Now for non Ft Wayne comments

Cabelas: We've had one here about 20-30 min away for a good long while -- since before they got bought out. They have a ton of hunting and a ton of fishing stuff. Some cool tanks full of salmon and trout and other fish where you walk through kind of a tunnel and see them on both sides. (Not one of those tunnels through the pool thing). Also I've always liked looking at their stuffed animal exhibits. Especially the Africa one. They also have a whole hall attached just for Rocky Mountain / Utah animals in exhibit.

Unfortunately this Cabelas doesn't have that much pure firearm stuff (they have a lot of hunting related stuff and guns but not so much parts and accessories, reloading, performance, etc -- some but not that much). A "local" big mall-attached sporting goods store called Al's Sporting Goods (so also bikes, exercise, and sports, not so much hunting and fishing though they do have a dept for that) has a lot more of the pure firearms stuff. Only been there once to pick up a bike I ordered online (and a brand they can't ship --- you have to pick it up) and was suitably impressed by the firearms section. Lots of interesting stuff.
