Willie, so glad to hear you are ok!

Sherrel which was a better plane in the battle of Britain, Spitfire or ME 109? The ME 109 only had about 20 minutes of fuel after crossing the channel.
I'm A big fan of the mosquito. While not a factor in the battle of Britain. The mosquito is a great example of making the most out of a little! If there is a war, always good to have the crafty British as allies.

Queen Elizabeth II has to be one of the greatest people of my lifetime. She exemplifies integrity, decorum and so many other qualities of a great leader.
Monarchy, definitely not an American thing, to each his own.
My great uncle served in the Irish Guards. I understand he was very proud to serve the crown.

Good afternoon, all! Another hot day. Wife had her annual Dr. visit this morning, so went had breakfast out.

Willie - Good to hear all went well.
Jaz - Without photos, how can you tell, not sure who's ego would be hurt. 👿👿👿👿👿
Smudge - Go ahead, you know you want to.

Set the fire house this afternoon.

Not a Spitfire, Smudge!
The engine cowl and wings look more like possible a Hurricane?

You are correct, 3 blade prop, under wing scoops, and the curve on the wings to the fuselage, yep, Hurricane, my bad, teach me to use my phone to look at stuff, now all we need now is to identify the truck? 🤣

As an aside, watched the celebrations this morning at Buckingham Palace, fly past of the Battle of Britain flight, last remaining (flying that is) 2 Hurrican, 2 Spitfire, and last remaining Lancaster Bomber, the engine noise, even over the TV, was amazing, sure I could see the palace windows rattling. 🤣

Greetings from Savannah!

It's been a whirlwind of a day, including dropping the U-HAUL trailer, picking up our youngest at the airport, taking dresses to the cleaners to be steamed and pressed...and a new battery for our van... That last one wasn't planned.

Looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow.

Have a good night!

Bit of a misconception about all that.

Queen Elizabeth is now the longest serving monarch, (her coronation was in Feb 1952) a record previously held by Queen Victoria (at 63yrs 7 months) So, sorry, it is a bit of a big deal not only in the UK.

The Queen's net worth is £370 million, less than some other heads of state and some business people in the US

The Royal family cost the UK taxpayer £1.29 pp per year (wonder how much the President cost's per US citizen)

The government has set aside £12million for the pageants and various other activities over the 4 days, expected revenue back to the government from all this is expected to be around £1.2bn (I call that a win in my book)

As for all the media coverage, well, my guess would be that their is whole of bunch of US citizens who are not only proud of their heritage, but where they came from too.
Smudge- Elizabeth II is the longest currently serving monarch, she’s about 10 or so days from being the 2nd longest reigning monarch in history(when she passes Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand(1946-2016) & about 2 years short of Louis XIV’s 72 years & 110 days reign. As far as my heritage, I am proud to be an American. At the same time, I am also proud of the heritage of my ancestors, German, Scottish, English & a distant part Native American(Iroquois, either Seneca or Cuyuga- not sure which tribe from the Finger Lakes area of NY).
Joe & Tom O- I’m a lifelong Flyers fan, and it’s clear to me that the front office(Comcast Spectacor) hasn’t run this team the same way since the passing of team founder & longtime owner, Mr Snider.

So to the cocoa. Here are the pics from Thursday morning's cocoa:

(I am out of the raw cacao powder and Costco didn't have any when I was there a week or so ago and I forgot to get the (smaller more expensive) package at Walmart so I am only using the Rodelles now. I don't show the creamer but I just use the normal Sams (Walmart) cheapo creamer.

I use an oversize mug, put lots of powder in, lots of fats, the syrups, stir into paste, and lots of hot hot water and stir. I don't use all those syrups at once -- that is just my supply of sugar free. We have 30+ bottles of sugared, mostly Torani, but some Da Vinci since our local Costco business center stocks these for $5 a bottle.

Well, Doggies!
Awoke with a start today around 2:45 AM - I suddenly remembered that I had taken a very full bag of kitchen garbage out yesterday and just sat it on top of the recycle bin as KATE was using the "trash bin" inside the garage and I did not want the bag that I had to stink up the garage. I could just visualize trash scattered everywhere from prowling night creatures looking for a meal? I still don't believe it but the bag was intact but it was on the ground - perhaps I caught it just in time before it was trashed all over?

The new seat belt buckle arrived at the shop so the RV will be taken there and then driven to the dealer afterwards. That will be one less headache to deal with although I wish it were not so. It's just too much expense for no more use than we have done lately. Kate says she is almost afraid to go on an extended road trip because she is worried about me being too far from fast medical care. I told her that I cannot live under a pail and her comeback is - well I am not ready to be a widow!

LOUIS - - I do not have a clue as to which was the better plane. I would think it had more to do with the training and experience of the aviator? I was looking at all sorts of information after reading your question. I did read that the Hurricane could be turned in 9 minutes whereas the Spitfire took upwards of 20 minutes. AND I believe that I read that the Hurricane was responsible for downing more German A/C than the Spitfire?
The Mosquito was a phenomenal aircraft. Very interesting that a wooden plane carried no defensive armament, but relied on it's speed to escape any entanglement!
To be constructed out of wood must have taken some insane engineering - but, so was the Spruce Goose!

OK - I better try and grab another cup ... I pulled a real dummy and need to go clean up the mess. I placed my cup upside down in the Keurig and proceeded to run coffee everywhere!!!

Went into town yesterday and watched the movie, Maverick. Nice action shots of the aircraft, but simple story plot. Tom Cruise comes out as the hero after the typical fly boy antagonist from long past issue then he gets the good looking gal (Jennifer Connely). Story ends with them flying into the sunset. A very predictable story.
Fairly cool day today. I'll move most of the excess lumber from my garage down to the storage room in the basement. First though, I'll have breakfast while watching the Hesperia virtual rail cam.

Ooooo! You …ruined …it, spoiler alert, ….they .l.l they may have done a twist he might have not ended up with the girl, in an often pc correct world anything could have happened.

Thank Christ it did not……
sniggers.

sorry should not take the Lords name in vain l

Good morning all,

45° and mostly sunny. Pretty stiff west wind, as it has been for the last few days. Glad it is Friday, will be working on the layout tomorrow, I have so many things going on there is sometimes a question of where to work next. Probably should finish connecting all the track and getting last of wiring done, but have a lot more fun putting in scenery and ballast. Maybe a little of both.

Flo - I will take a couple scrambled eggs, toast, and coffee.

Curt - Thank you!

Ken DJ - I think I will skip Maverick. I don't like Tom Cruise much anyways, in fact all actors that wear their politics or religion on their sleeves.

Guy - hope the fence work is done so we can see some more modelling!

Sherrel - downsizing, or rightsizing, I believe, to be very therapeutic.

Hughie - love the layout scene!

Jaz, Smudge - I think the royal family sets a good moral example for the country, or at least appears to attempt to. My opinion is that is a good thing!

more later, Dave LASM

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 66° here in North Central Texas. Chance of rain today has been reduced to 20%, total for yesterday was 2.1" as not much fell after the overnight storms. The flood watch has turned into a river flood warning as everything starts to drain downstream. Unlike the Western areas of the country, the reservoirs in this area are full.

Healing is going as planned, no discomfort at all. I can't see the scar so my wife has to look for me. I am not supposed to lift anything heavier than 10 lbs. for about two weeks, that will put a damper on activity a bit. A twelve pack of bottled beer weighs 9 lbs. I slept nine hours last night with only one bathroom break. Don't know if that improvement is due to better blood flow or just that I was tired. Time will tell.

I did make the grocery trek yesterday since it stopped raining and the radar didn't show any more coming. Tomorrow I take my wife to the airport for her spring vacation at Padre Island with daughter #2's family. That's eight days of "home alone". I was originally intending to install a couple of new ceiling fans, but that ten lb. thing will postpone that. I'll do trains instead.

I started picking the first tomatoes from the garden yesterday, just a handful of Cherry Tomatoes and some of a new to me variety called Juliette. They are a cross between grape tomatoes and Roma tomatoes, supposedly a meaty variety that is good for canning as well as fresh eating. I picked a larger baseball-sized one, but I cannot find the marker telling me which variety it is! Got another handful of Jalapeno peppers as well. Today it looks like more yellow squash, probably more tomatoes as I get to more plants to look at, and the remaining large heads of broccoli. Once the main broccoli head is picked, many side shoots produce tennis ball-sized heads for a few more weeks. I will also scour the green bean row this morning - it's not yet producing baskets of beans, but I didn't plant nearly as much as I normally plant. More tomato plants survived the late frost than I expected, so I now have over 110 plants instead of the original goal of 84 after I replanted some.

Pool is great right now, but unfortunately I am not supposed to use it for 48 hours after the surgery. I did dangle my feet in it yesterday, and today I'll jump back in.

Back into the train shed yesterday, but still in the modeling funk. Ran some trains and did some infrastructure work. One of my present issues is a lack of staging areas. For the most part, I have a train staged on 8 of my 11 passing sidings which I rotate out about once a week. I have plenty of room on the third of the layout that is not developed beyond main lines and passing sidings, so I am clearing out a lot of accumulated modeling supplies on the lower level for now.

First step when this area is cleared out will be to install the plywood backdrop. Stay tuned.

OB Ken - Belated Happy Birthday to your wife. Watering the garden - so far I have been lucky. Since planting I have only had to water once, well timed and copious rainfall has been a blessing this year. 6" in April and 8" in May has been sufficient. And then another 2" Wednesday night. June can be tricky, and then none until mid-September. Of course the only things that grow in the heat of late-July and All of August are okra, peanuts and sweet potatoes.
Smudge - I was a good patient until it got after the originally planned release time and then I got quite irritable. So much so that it probably kept the BP high for longer than normal which further delayed my release. I needed to have relaxed more.
Tom O - I mentioned to one of the nurses who was constantly checking on my incision that even though I wasn't like a 35 year old any more, that didn't seem to dull her enthusiasm for checking out the goods. She laughed but continued pulling back the gown more than necessary.
Joe - No wheelchair ride for me. I walked out with the nurse at my side. But it wasn't my knee either.
Jeff - Glad that the trip went well, except for the battery of course.

Where the heck is Gary from Nova Scotia?
Everybody have a great day today.

Well howdy there internet peeps,

It's Troy again...

speaking of rail cams.... are we talking about cab-mounted cameras showing where the train is going? I'd watch those! My favorite channel on a Cruise Ship is the Front of the Ship channel. that's a camera mounted in the bridge. Love that channel. View of the ocean most days.

Need to go see mom today, and take her off to a doc appointment.

Thanks for keeping this place a sea of sanity. I'm in tooooo many political discussions over on the book of faces. 😜 🤪 I like coming here for the coffee, donuts, and photos of Her Royal Majesty.
