Good evening. 73° presently. Today was fantastic, with bright sun and a high of 84° Tomorrow the expected high is 88°,with an "Air Quality Alert".

Wife, was on a mission to find "hot pads", so we drove over to Monmouth Mall. There is a newly opened Outpatient medical and Surgical Center adjacent to the Mall, (owned by Jared Kushner), 3 of the 4 Anchors remain, but about 80% of the other retail space is vacant. In any event, wife found what she was looking for, and I found the new "Passenger Train Journal" at Barnes and Noble.

After lunch, I watched the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Washington Nationals 8-7, in one of the most unusual games I ever witnessed. So many wired plays and calls. If Washington had decent relievers, they would have won. Actually very entertaining.

Curt: the mini skunks are cool.good find.

Ahhhh….. the infamous “4th out” play.

Good morning all! 52 headed for sunny and 86. I missed posting here yesterday and only had time for a brief look so I'll admit I haven't read all the posts since my last visit. Very busy day at work yesterday and probably will be busy again today which I like. I'd much rather stay busy all day.

Briefly talked to the instructor of the class I'm taking at the college yesterday. He said I'm doing great and he thinks I'm on track to finish the class with an A. After so many years out of college it's nice to hear that I'm doing well on my part-time return.

Been working on my home network during my downtime. I took an old computer and turned it into a pfSense router/firewall for home recently. Still learning how to administer it. I'd like to set up a VPN with it but the modem/router/firewall supplied by my Internet service provider blocks everything and I have no access to the control panel in it to unblock stuff. I'd like to just turn off its firewall since I run my own and that would allow me to get the VPN going. I talked to someone there yesterday and asked them to see if they can turn off their firewall so I can just take care of that stuff myself. Waiting to hear back from them. I love the fiber internet service they provide but I wish I had more control over things. I could upgrade and get a static IP address which would give me more control but that would be another $15 a month and I don't really want to do that. We don't really have any other good options for internet service where I live so I'm stuck with whatever I can get with my current package. I wouldn't want to leave them anyway but I would like more control.

Mcleod: Hope the tooth gets better soon!

Nothing else to report. Hope you all have a great day!
Ken ya might try to get them to bridge their widget into your stuff. You might also be able to get a 'sticky IP' which is usually cheaper than static. Sticky is done using your MAC addy on your firewall/router. I have been building Linux based firewalls for years. I just got done loading Fedora Server 36 and it seems to be smooth as silk. I do not used firewalld, instead iptables as to me it is easier to configure.
I am going round and round with Zipply to allow me to use a HBA with singlemode long wave fiber - 1210u ifn I remember correctly. They will give me either sticky or static. Static will allow in-arpa reverse address for my email server, while sticky forces me to use a friend's setup as a mail relay. Still using cable Inet as we are seeing 500Meg up/down whereas Zipply is 1Gig at least and cheaper by a few dollars. Probably will do both for awhile to verify zipply's uptime is as good or better than cable.

Good Morning all!
54F in Libby
65F on I80 22 miles west of Laramie ... ya truck broke down and we are waiting tow to Cheyenne Freightliner. Maria got an Emergency Shutdown console message and barely made it on to the side of the road. Sure, right in the middle of construction with narrow lanes. She only ran over 1 reflective marker doing so and did not hit any cone people. We have 20Klbs jerky...dog jerky that was supposed to get us to our PM in Cedar Rapids. Ya right.

Morning all,

66° and clear in Doo-Dah this morning, going for a high in the mid-90's. Work wasn't too bad, as they "kids" managed without me. On one hand I want the time off without a phone call, on the other, I feel a bit reluctant to turn over control of the systems just yet. Keeping my cards too close to my chest in case something happens.

Oh well back to getting ready for work.

Good morning Everybody!

A rare day off for me, maybe 3rd or 4th one this year. I do better trying to put for the same meager effort every day.

Willie, I admire your daily productivity. I could not match it at this point in my life. Great looking tomatoes! You are the man!

I don't actually put out much physical effort. I mostly just keep moving for a few hours each day. I wish I could do more, but I am very grateful for what I can do, thank God.

My closest friend Willy is still in a hospital. This one is a rehab to get his system back in order after he had his foot amputated due to the gangrene he had across the entire bottom of his foot. It almost killed him! He was to stubborn to go the doctor. They had to take him in an ambulance. I don't know what he was thinking. I can say much. I don't want to be the pot calling the kettle black. After this hospital he goes to another to get a prostatic and learn to live with it.

His wife his nephew, niece and their son were in dire straights yesterday. I've been calling but no one answered. Finally I just drove 49 miles to their house. Found out they were nearly out of supplies. Another bunch of stubborn...
My wife and I went to the super Wal-Mart, one stop shopping and the prices are fair, I love those super Wal-Marts!

Today I'm making a second trip. I'm sending more stuff, mostly for the boy. Games, Legos books and other stuff my grandsons no longer play with. They have no internet. I took off work to have a chat with Willy's nephew. Time to man up and get a job! He is a great young man but life has been far less than fair. A heart breaking story, he and his brother were molested by neighbors right under their parents noses. Too lazy and drunk to check on them, his parents are shits. They both have turned their backs on him. Willy stepped in after the truth surfaced. Damage done and Willy is just a blue collar working stiff. He has done his best, God bless him.

I feel bad because all these years I was too busy working and being dad or to sick to help even myself.

There are million excuses, all you need is one reason to succeed.

Pray for Willy and that I can have some impact on his family.

PS, Guy I hope you keep feeling better. Tooth was the second worst pain i ever felt. Don't hesitate to share your troubles. Most of these old ...😁 wear big boy pants, they are the only ones I whine to and some of them really do listen and care.

God Bless Us Everyone!

Interesting reaction to caffeine. I had a lemonade drink at Arby's yesterday afternoon, about 5:30. I hit the sack about 11pm and fell right to sleep. About 2:30 I woke up at a start, wide awake. Got up and watched two John Wick movies then laid back down about 5:00 and went to sleep till about 7:30.
If I had an energy drink, I could have drunk that at 2:30 and it would have put me back to sleep in about 15 min.

I love John Wick! I cannot wait for the 4th installment!

Good morning,

A tall black coffee and carmel roll with pecans, please, Flo

Big dead deer blocking an entire lane on the way in this morning. Was really creamed, I am going to guess a log truck with a substantial guard in front, no vehicle pieces on the road.

Todd - hope the repair goes quickly. At least you won't starve, we had to eat dogfood for our Lettermans initiation, didn't kill us.

Tom - Cambria - a really long weekend for you, I am jealous. Pretty all my time off goes to doctor, dentist, car appointments, either for me or Wife.

Yesterday morning we had 46°, this morning woke up to 75°. Wierd.

Figured out my shorts, need to add a couple insulated couplers on my Peco turnouts. I have two different kinds. Will be an easy fix, prolly get to it on Saturday.

More later, Dave LASM

Good Morning All. Clear and 66° on this last morning of cooler temperatures. Yesterday reached 91°, today is expected to be 97°. Still no rain in the 10 day forecast. That 2.1" that fell the night that I got home from the hospital on June 1 is the only rain that we got this month.

Weekly grocery trek today should be a short one since we were out of town 2.5 days. I do have to stop at Sam's Club to have my glasses repaired, lost one of the nosepieces in San Antonio. Been using my old ones in the meantime.

Busy day yesterday as I took advantage of the cooler morning. Cut down and cut up part of a dead Maple tree which yielded about six days of firewood. Still have more than half a tree remaining. Haven't figured out what killed it. I did one round (45 minutes) of mowing and I now have everything mowed except for the "back 40". Given the forecast, I most likely won't have much mowing to do for a while except a 25' swath around the house that I water for fire prevention. The pile of tomatoes on the table has grown by about an additional 20 pounds. I'm not sure that I will get to the spaghetti sauce today or tomorrow, but I did send 8 canning jars through the dishwasher yesterday in preparation. I also finally finished trimming all of the tops and roots from the purple onion harvest.
My neighbor cut my hay field over the last two days, looks like a good yield.

We'll know for sure after it's raked and baled.

Thanks for the comments and reactions yesterday regarding the garden; Dave B, Karl, Guy, Patrick, Sherrel, Smudge, Hughie, Jeff, Louis, James, Gary, Curt, Jaz, Tom O, Mikey, OB Ken, Joe, Tom.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I continued on the billboard project. Things are really precise right now with the walkway and ladder. I took pictures but left the camera outside. I am in a time crunch this morning so those pictures will wait until tomorrow.

OB Ken - Continued good luck with the class.
Ken (D&J) - Nice computer screen set up. I can see how it comes in so handy while editing your movies. I personally stick with just a single one right now, as two or more would remind me of the work environment.
Tom O - I had to read up a bit on the Amana Colonies since I wasn't too familiar with them. Sounds like the nearby town of Muenster TX on a much bigger scale.
I always believed that the government lowballs inflation numbers thinking that they can fool the American people. I don't believe that it is working this time.
Guy - I am pleased with the purchases that I made from MiniPrints. I won't be getting any mooses as they just don't fit my locale. I must give credit to Tom O for recommending them. I see that Curt is also using their skunks.
Sorry to read about the ongoing tooth issues, but keep posting as we are all concerned about your well being.
Jeff - Further update on the tomatoes. My plants tend to produce their tomatoes in the shaded interior of the plants. It's like Mother Nature is intentionally making it difficult for me to pick them. As you can see from the picture of the table full, there is no shortage. I sent a bag to my daughter for her birthday Tuesday and I have been giving some to my next door neighbor who has been giving us home grown eggs for the last four months.
My largest garden was in the 80's and early 90's when we were feeding three kids as well, and topped out at just over a half acre. I rotated three plots with one of the three every year used as a chicken yard while the other two were for veggies. the chickens cleared out all weeds and insects and fertilized their plot.
Todd - Glad that the two of you are safe.
Louis - Thank you. I do have to pace myself a bit when the temperature is over 100°.

Everybody have a great day.

Good Morning!

51F here in the north, on another wet summer morning. It feels quite pleasant; a very nice day.

I note there is still downhill skiing going on in Banff. Folks are spending big money for the chance to ski in their shorts and bikini's. The last time they were able to do that around here was over 30yrs ago. There are those that have such an affection for the downhill sport, they are taking full advantage. It might only be once in a lifetime that one can ski down a mountain in a bikini. - If I was still wearing a six-pack, rippled tummy, I might well be up there. As it is, I'd just look like a snowball rolling on down.

Thank you so much for the comments and concern's regarding the current tooth pains I'm feeling. I'm giving yu'all a virtual hug and handshake right now.
I won't say too much about the pain right now, except that it is contributing to a loss of interest in modelling at this time. I hardly did nothing yesterday.

Here's some photos I've taken recently of prototype locomotives I find parked downtown. None of these have been posted yet:

I haven't been stopping to take as many photos in the local yard, as I was over the past couple of years. It's starting to get to be that I'll only take the time if there is something really interesting in there.
I already have hundreds of locomotive photos in my files, and the only thing that seems to change is the engine number. A smaller and tight local railyard only offers a limited number of photo opportunities. I think I need to expand my territory, except that would involve some travel.

I'm going to try and prime paint the oil dealership storage tanks today. Other than that, I don't expect to get much modelling in.
This is a long weekend here in Canada, and I believe we will have company from out of town. Need to get the guest room cleaned up.

Have a great day!

Good morning gang!

Sitting here at work, I've had about all I can stand, can't stand no more! Thank goodness I am off next week. The dealership world is one of subtle knives in your back until you really start to bleed, and right now I feel like a pincushion. I'm off a half day Friday and have an interview scheduled for then at a shop I used to work at. The drive is longer but the B.S. quotient is lower.

WOW! Literally just got a phone call from Her Majesties Revenue and Customs (HMRC). in London, to inform me that legal proceedings are being instituted against me for failure to pay my tax and "Press 1 to speak to one of our officers"
🤣 🤣 🤣🤣
I spoke to one of their officers, judging from the accent, African, possibly Indian, and called him every name I could think of, (and being ex Army, I know a few), and ended by telling him to KMA.
What I didn't tell him is that HMRC. NEVER make automated phone calls, (and definately not in an American accent). And all calls are made from your local Tax office, and I'm well over 100 miles from London, so not local.
Bloody con artists, but unfortunately some poor sod will fall for it.:(

I probably gave people the wrong impression about having a 1.5 acre garden. At least half of that was where all the perennials were like the currant and raspberry bushes, horseradish, leaks, etc. would grow. We had blackberry bushes for several years, but we ended up ripping all those out and replacing with raspberries. Very similar plant, but the blackberries were much more "invasive" in that they always needed "pushed back" every year. The raspberries didn't seem to spread as quickly, and their thorns were a lot less lethal, lol.

Tomatoes, string beans, peas and zucchini where our largest crops each year. We canned a lot, except never tried to preserve any gourds... we mostly gave away any excess zucchini. But we would end up with shelves lined with tomatoes, green beans and peas in mason jars.
