Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and a muggy 78° headed up to 97° later today. I am enjoying this cool spell before we get back to triple digits starting Tuesday for at least a week. That is the forecast. No rain in sight and I am irrigating the garden as I type since we have no wind this morning.

Looks like some of my big tomatoes might just ripen this weekend. I have been waiting patiently for them. So far there has been just a dozen or so, and maybe 50 cherry and grape tomatoes ripening. All hell is fixing to break loose. I did harvest the other four heads of cabbage yesterday, there's now 5 in the fridge taking up space. We already ate the sixth one, half as cole slaw and half cooked with German Sausage. I actually have more Yellow Squash this year despite planting less. But I have run through all of my squash recipes and need to find more as well as start repeating some. Green bean crop this year has been disappointing so far. Getting plenty for fresh eating, but have not gotten enough to pressure can any yet. Last year I put up 24 pints. I think that I still have four pints left. I've been picking both Bell Peppers and Jalapenos. Nothing to brag about since I did lose some plants to a frost and could not come up with replacements in time. I also finally picked the purple onions yesterday, looks to be a bigger crop than the white ones from last week. Found an unknown ant bed and I have over a dozen ant bites on my right hand now.:mad:

Thursday morning and making the list for the weekly grocery trek. A busy trip is planned with additional stops at the post office, pharmacy, wine store, haircut and the dreaded clothing store. I hate buying clothes and my wife no longer buys them for me.

Thanks to all who commented or liked the chairs; Tom O, Dave B, Smudge, Guy, Sherrel, Karl, Louis, James, Hughie, Curt, Mikey, Rick, Patrick, Tom, OB Ken. It really was a simple project.

Not a lot of photogenic stuff going on out in the train shed right now. Been running trains and doing general cleanup. Losing the previously purchased chain last month has gotten me in the mood for cleaning and sorting. At least I haven't lost any locos or tools.

Tom O - Continued best wishes on a speedy recovery. I read that bamlanivimab's emergency use application had been withdrawn. What gives???

Morning all,

Was on a bit earlier, but wasn't able to do more than stick my head in the door and wave hello. looks to be a busy day here. Off tomorrow to apply patches to the servers on Saturday. Things we have to do in the off hours...Should still see a bit of overtime. Starting June 26th, I'll be making 5.75% mor than I'm making today. My normal pay raise got delayed and we have an across the board pay adjust taking place that same day. It will help, but still not yet enough.

Currently 77° and clear with a predicted high of 100°, heat index (feels like) 105° to 110° later today. Heat advisor in effect. So much for the "cold" front that passed through last night. Sorry Willie, but you're still going to be cooler than us "northerners". It was 96° yesterday.

TomO: Hope you get better soon.

Ken: Glad the class seems to be going well. I personally don't do cabling and furniture moving anymore, at least at work. Hope the thumb get better quick as well.
 


Good morning believers and non-believers of vaccines and the other wonders of man made medicine. I just wish someone would tell us the truth on the origins of Covid19. The infusion as I knew and hoped went well. Less then a 1/2% of the patients that received the drug infusion have suffered any side effects. But then my cancer reoccurrence was a less then 5% chance the 1st time but the 2nd reoccurrence was a 23%. So, even when I got home last night I was excepting anything to happen, thankfully it didn’t.

The drug bebtelovimab attaches to the virus cells and stops them from replicating. The nurses, truly wonderful people, said I should feel a noticeable improvement roughly 24 hours after receiving the drugs. Ok, so I am waiting!

Obviously I have no plans for the next 5 days for sure. I have tried going into the train room the last week and except for a good 3 hour period last Sunday in there I couldn’t concentrate. Maybe and hopefully different today.

I walked out of the infusion center yesterday into the predicted thunder storms and rain fall. Wow did it come down! About 2 miles from the house I hit bright sunshine and the sheets of rain stopped. The car though got a very good washing! Again the homestead was missed by the damaging winds and possible tornados that the areas around us got. Yes, we have probably 100’s of trees and branches down but with a property of 65%+ of trees that happens. The guys are out flying the drones checking the fence line and the horse trails. Later today they will or I might fly the walking trails Terry and I use. I should have a report in 90 minutes or roughly 9AM CST.

I am up almost 1 hour and feel antsy, maybe a good sign. The humidity will be high today

That’s interesting about the withdrawal. I will look into that. All the paperwork shows that is drug I received and they even gave me a copy of the emergency authorization.
 
Settled in at Panera with coffee and cinnamon roll.

Don't tell Flo, but Panera's cin roll is better than Mel's where he keeps confusing the sausage gravy with the pastry icing.

Did find the gent who used to head the maintenance committee on our HOA board (he's moved out of the complex since). He said our little complex is a weird entry in the power grid. We're an island unto ourselves. The shopping plaza to the east, and stripmall to the south are on one feed. The Senior community where MIL lives and points east are another main feed. And the neighborhoods to the west look like they should be with us. But, they're a separate feed off the main.

When they built our section they didn't tie into either of those, even though their outage system chucks us into the one for points West. Our feed comes in from the south, not the north side. like the field techs would expect.

So, we get lumped into one of the other service portals, and no one figures out that we're separate, and from the other direction.

He said when the power company rep came to a board meeting following a week-long outage after an ice storm - where other neighborhoods got their power back a day or two before ours - there were explanations but no answers from the power company. We really are the red-headed stepchild of the power grid in this area.

Troy, when you buy that emergency generator you need do a lot of checking around. Especially for electricians who are qualified to hook them up. The electricians come in all varieties and it amazed me on how an unqualified one can mess up a warranty.

It really reads like you need one.

I know you are aware of what your HOA allows or not but I know of some friends who got into big battles with their HOA’s over an emergency generator. One HOA said it wouldn’t be fair to have one when the others didn’t. A friends wife needed the generator to keep her medical equipment going during an outage. He sued, lost and sold the condo at a very purposeful loss. $800,000 condo for less then 250 and that just destroyed the re-sale value for years. The buyer never told the association the seller and he were related

Everyone knows how to hook up a generator to their house. Not their problem if it back feeds into the grid. They can't figure out why the generator doesn't power up their stuff though, but they know all about it.
 


So I was researching a little bit on the Union Pacific Big Boy run from last year in regards to the 2 runs that I know of hauling 2-bay cement/sand hoppers with vintage UP heritage cars and another run with (21) 4-bay covered hoppers.. I plan on emulating or rather getting these cars and to match them as closely as I can. That will be a task but I will try anyways. I also want to try to get the caboose correct as well. I recently got a caboose that has the Steam Team Logo or information on it.

Good Morning!

It's a fine day, after a day of nearly solid rain yesterday. Only 47F right now, but, still feels comfortable. No reason to put the heat on.

Need to go down and enjoy my grandson's birthday sometime this afternoon. He's just turned 8yrs. It's important not to miss a child's birthday; not so much an adults. As adults, we don't celebrate anyway.

I took a short walk into the CN staging yard yesterday. Didn't stay long, as it was raining and I couldn't prevent the droplets from getting on the camera lens.

I'm so very disgusted by the way vandals treat railcars. It's not art, it's not pretty; it's no more than a pathetic showing of time wasted. I wonder if these tagging people actually believe they are doing good; actually believe this crap is art. Or is it just a sick desire to destroy, just because it exists.

I also tried to get photos of tank cars, but, discarded them due to the effects of raindrop blur. Sometimes one wins, sometimes no.

Well, I'm a wee bit depressed. So I think I'll scoop the dog and go spend some time in the forest. I mean to take advantage of natures incredible healing powers; get swallowed up by the green.

Good morning all,

65° and sunny. Very windy from the south, though, we are looking at upper nineties early next week. The heat dome the weather guesser suggested we would get never materialized for us.

My wife had a flue vaccine a couple months ago and has been diagnosed with SIRVA, now is under the care of a physician. She experiences pain, sometimes severe, partial immobility, and sleeplessness as a result. Her vaccine was administered by a local Pharmacist, who you would think would know where to administer the shot. Apparently she missed and it went into her tendon. They have a MRI scheduled for next friday, to see how much damage was done. I believe this will be her last flu vaccine. She will not be bugging me about getting vaccines any more. Sounds like her damage is expected to be permanent. Physical therapy only exacerbated the problem.

On a brighter note, got stuff ordered for the layout completion and a couple small fun projects in the mail as well. Funny what a little retail therapy can do!

Troy - hope the power is on soon. We had a week long outage several years ago. One tree was the culprit, took the line down in front of one house. Since we did not have any important people on our road, we had the last section to be addressed. When they finished everyone else, like, oops there is one more. Prolly took them 15 minutes to fix.

Guy - enjoy your green time. I get an hour or so every evening after work to unwind by one of our ponds. I have a couple outdoor chairs that stay out there all the time, they get moved around a little, but the animals are use to them so me sitting in them doesn't make a big deal.

Jaz - we call it a "hot flash" here in the states, although it lasts longer than a "flash"

Willie - is that a string bikini or thong? Not sure what the difference would be, but I am sure there is one. Sure has the feel of summer!

Thought I needed to post a Railroad photo, this one from around 1890 came from my Dad's collection, not sure who took it, however:

The track plan here is copied on my layout, as well as the front warehouse. The left warehouse is 350' long, according to the plat map. They stored the wire grass I posted yesterday in these, prior to shipping to St. Paul for final processing.

These are the decals I want, will be contacting Precision Design Company about making the white signs for the buildings. I used a white pen to try to recreate them, however not happy with the results:

The plan is to get some nice, crisp decals made and get these upgraded.
