Some Monday morning humor!

Wow didn’t you guys sleep last night? More than a full page of posts since I last checked as someone replied to Marlin39’s anniversary meal.

Good morning from Wisconsin. Before bed I checked the WeatherChannel app and there was a 98% chance of rain at 3am so I brought the deck cushions in. I did not take the garbage bin to the curb. Nothing except heavy dew on the grass this morning. Terry said the TV weather lady said big chance of rain was between 2 and 6am. So it was confirmed before bed, it would rain. I just checked the radar and it’s near but still totally south of my location.

Mike is in that open near the I39 sign

Before I took the garbage to the curb at. 6 I checked and the highest rain chance before noon was 15%. As I type this I flipped to the weather app for the current numbers and it’s now 58% for 7am. I’m on the back deck anyway. It is 72f degrees now and low 90’s later with a heat advisory from noon to 8pm as the heat index will be around 105!

I have no plans for the day. I’ll walk the treadmill, make the bed, shower and then figure it out. The son is on his comptuer trying to figure a flight route to Indianapolis that doesn’t take him through the storms in Illinois and Western Indiana. He just mumbled something about taking a polar type route over Lake Michigan and coming into Indiana from the Northwest.

Enjoy the day

The shim included with the 1015 is .014".
I'm not sure if that will help you at all, though if you wanted to do some mental math, you could deduct that amount from the total thickness to get the thickness without the shim.
There's not enough info to calculate. If you have a 1015 readily handy to take a measurement... I'd gladly pay you Sunday for a hamburger today :)

Good morning

A cool.66 and sunny, calm, headed for 84.

Attempt a couple decals on the new trucks and some landscaping on the layout before my 930 coffee break.

I missed 5 pages of posts yesterday, apologies if I didn't reply to something, I am starting fresh on this page.

Wife was being critical of me about some trivial matters last evening, I will chalk it up to the heat getting to her...

...couldn't have been anything I said...

Patched things up by me ignoring it.

More later, Dave LASM

Over here, we use something like Carnation non-fat dried milk.
In a classic case of using everything, that is what’s left after making Elmer’s Glue-All.
Carnation Milk. I remember my grandmother using it for about a week. Carnation in this, in that and anything else. 'Yuk!!! That was the end of that.

National Dried Baby's Milk was the only thing available when I was born.
As time passed other Baby's Dried Milk became available and was always seen advertised.
The advertisements continued when our children were born.
Funny that now we do not see the advertisements anymore.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with old disc drives

it's troy again.

Just made an appointment with the Vet for the cat.

We moved from Los Angeles back to Indiana at the end of January 2020. There's a vet right down the road, then March 2020 happened, and we went into lockdown. I wasn't going to take the cat to the vet in the middle of a pandemic. After that, establishing a vet relationship fell off the radar.

Well, Stinker (AKA Mr Fuzz, StinkFuzz, Lord Fuzzbutt, and other titles as the need arises) has been not hitting his pooping palace under the basement stairs recently. We've been thinking it's behavioral based on fixable circumstances. First time I caught him was right after his pooping palace hit a fault and stopped half-way through the spin cycle. Fixed that.

Then, whenever his gravity fed food dish is nearing empty, he start yeowling about it. With at least a week's worth of food left in it. That triggers another round of peeping on the carpet. But he only does it on the stairway landing, basically right above his litter box, just one or two floors up.

OK, he's going to do that intermittently, he can go back to the vet. They'll keep him until he gives a urine sample to check for kitty crystals in his system. If that's the case, expensive food for him.

OK, back to laundry and then some errands.

Good morning, Everybody!

My work is done today!

It has taken me two mornings, over an hour each morning to install a new storm door on my back porch and I'm still not done. Yesterday I made the mistake of working well past sunrise. I got greedy and did one block for Amazon before starting on the door. I hadn't sweated like that since I coached little league, at least little league was fun!

I wanted to finish the job of installing the door yesterday, but my wife would have none of that. She is a smart lady; I was all but a vegetable the rest of the day. The heat, humidity and the sun took its toll on me. All I could eat was kale, garden salad and dry roasted peanuts. I had no appetite for anything heavier. It's no wonder why the doctors tell me to avoid getting overheated.

I need to reconsider the jobs I take on. I just couldn't get past the installation costing more than the door. And that was before I would have given the guys a tip. It sucks being a broken-down old f..., but as many others have said, "it beats the alternative".

I thought "It should be quick and easy" Until I couldn't find my high-speed cobalt drill bits, even though I have two sets. And the battery for my cordless drill died! "The best laid plans of mice and men can still go wrong!" A trip to Home Depot cost me time, even though it is less than 10 minutes away. That led to an additional 30 minutes of being exposed to the heat of the sun.

I solved those problems. This morning, I ordered three sets of drill bits and another cordless drill from Amazon. Batteries never go on sale. It's often cheaper to buy a new tool that comes with the battery. As it was this time. Now I will have one set of drill bits to keep with each cordless drill, one set for each corded drill and a spare for my toolbox on the porch. It makes me wonder how much I save by doing these jobs myself.

I started the day today by watching the Rundown Recap and the Replay of Yesterday's Orioles' game on MLB.TV. I got started on the door at the break of dawn. The new storm door is up and perfectly hung. Once I install the door closer, I am finished with that job. I wanted to finish this morning, but the sun was on me, so I retreated into the house. I didn't work for Amazon this morning.

The good news is I'm no worse for the wear. My blood pressure was okay this morning, (98/57) and my glucose reading was great! I'll get the blood pressure up. I already knocked down a third of a two-liter Diet Dr. Pepper and I have a 20oz bottle of Sugar Free Gatorade mixed with Diet Ginger Ale. I'll work on that in between cups of coffee, I love my coffee!

My hands aren't good for tedious jobs that require dexterity. But I can push past the pain and get them to do other work. My wife laughs at me as I talk to my hands "just do it mother f...ers!" then she worries. I tell her "No worries little Angel Icy Hot is my friend, and it is safe for my kidneys" I even smell like a broken-down old f... Icy Hot doesn't help much, but my wife thinks it does. 😁 That is good enough for me!

I even managed to sneak a load of laundry past my wife this morning as she was cutting the grass. If she had her way I wouldn't do anything. I am not completely helpless, not yet. I couldn't leave those sweaty clothes for her.

Which reminds me, I need to replace the Control Board in the washing machine. It works if I reset it, but now we can't change the settings. A new Control Board from Whirlpool lists at $357 with $75 cash back. They can keep their cash back. I found an updated Whirlpool OE Control Board at Amazon for $179. Free shipping no less! I can only imagine what a repair man would charge. It would be cheaper to buy a new washer. It's only seven years old and mechanically sound. "It should be quick and easy to replace the Control Board" 🤪 At least the laundry room is air-conditioned.

Tomorrow is another day. Every day is a good day; some are simply better than others.

I think I'll watch the replay of the Pirates and Diamondbacks game from yesterday. Paul Skenes (6W-8L, 1.83ERA) got the win as he pitched six scoreless innings, and the Pirates scored some runs for him, for a change. Pirates 6 Diamondbacks 0. We still might see the first starter to win the Cy Young award with a losing record.

Enjoy your day Everybody!

Another day of self-imposed exile to my home. Two more days to go before it cools off. H/I expected to be 110°F today and 111°F tomorrow. Thursday is supposed to be 84°F and Friday 81°F with a much decreased dewpoint.

Yesterday I started fooling with my old Lenovo laptops. I have a pair of good condition T510's that are both running Win 10. I was never a fan of Win 10 so I decided to load Windows 7 onto one of them. Boot disc worked and so did the .iso. It loaded normally and was running better on Win 7 than on Win 10. What I didn't expect was that it would not connect to my router after loading the correct drivers for the Wi-fi. I also loaded the ethernet drivers and it wouldn't connect using that either.

When diagnosing the problem, I found that it failed the Association Test in the Intel diagnostics program. I checked all of my router settings and they were all compatible with the Wi-fi in the laptop. No idea why this is happening. The computer connected to my mobile phone hot spot and worked normally, and it also connected with my ESU Command Station wi-fi, but no internet on that.

I'm completely baffled as to why this won't connect to my router, but I was never a network nerd, so I'm sure I'm missing something. When connected to the phone hotspot, Explorer 8 will not load a web page except for Chrome website, so I downloaded Chrome browser, but I get an error when trying to open it to set it up. ??? I don't remember the error, but the version was for Win 7, so that makes no sense either.

Anyway, I will probably load a Linux distribution to it later today. Probably Zorin if it's still available, and Mint if it's not. I've yet to start on the second T510, and I hope that goes better than with the first one. If it wasn't such a PITA to load Windows 11 to an obsolete machine, I would have done that.

You all have a good day, and stay out of this miserable weather.

I just went through some of that, and it's probable the router's security settings are identifying the laptop as a security risk and is not allowing it to connect. Many routers update automatically, and won't allow outdated OS'es to connect. Since IE is now deprecated, nothing will connect to it even if you do make it to the internet.
I also had a USB card I was trying to use to update my real wifi on my laptop, and it was too old, and the router refused the connection.

Gawd Bruette: We look to be a lot alike. I get yelled at when it is hot telling me to come back in the house. My problem is dehydration. Since I have lost all my body mass, gatorade and water are every hour or so, then have to deal with that book: 'The Yellow Stream' by IP Freely. Did find a can of GA powder vs buying the small bottles - tablespoon in a 16oz tumbler seems to work for me; liking the price of the can of powder vs those single powder pouches vs bottles. Can: $17 makes 9 gallons, pouches $17 for 30 servings, small bottles $6 up.

Here is a question for our computer experts. I have five Desktop PCs in ATX cases that will not upgrade to Windows 11. Some are faster and better equipped than others, but they all work well enough for me. I'd like to salvage at least two or three of them.

My question is would buying a motherboard and CPU be an easy/economical fix to get them, to accept Windows 11?

My thinking is to reuse the Hard Drives, Video Cards and System Ram. Two of them are identical; each with 1TB NVMe SSD and 2TB SATA HDD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB of GDDR6, and 32 GB DDR4 System Ram.

The other PC is even better, but I don't remember the specifics. My son built that one.

Batteries never go on sale. It's often cheaper to buy a new tool that comes with the battery.
I just ran into this with my Milwaukee drill. I bought it in 2019 with 2 batteries and a charger on closeout for $99.00.

One battery died a year or so back but I had another and don't use it very often anymore. I went to charge the 1 battery
I have left in June and it indicated it fully charged with the 4 LED dots on the drill but when used would only drive a couple
of screws before being totally dead again. It was going to be $129.00 to replace the batteries.

Not sure which way to go. If I buy a new set of batteries, the drill will probably fail. Just the luck I have!
