For those buying stock on “tips”. Set a price you’d be happy to get out at and if it hits that price get out. Take your profit. Who cares if it keeps going up. These sorts of stocks tend to be more volatile and what goes up must come down. Unless you actually day trade, sitting and watching it 6 hours a day, you’re not likely to do a great job timing it and may lose a lot on the down turn.

I often spoke with Sherrel about this. Set your target for profit you’re happy with and stick to it. It does t matter if it keeps going up.

I did this this week with TQQQ (a highly leveraged index fund). It’s quite volatile due to leverage and I had. Priced it goes up and down quickly. It’s not a buy and hold type thing (and most boutique fancy stocks aren’t either). So I sold the 35 shares we had in our self directed 401k account with $9xx profit. I’d already seen it get to that level once before and then dive down to a big loss and then go back up. I’d rather take the close to 50% profit and go do something else. I can get more TQQQ on the next downturn.

I had bought some shares in the Nikola electric truck company. Not a lot but a few hundred $$$. I should have gotten out when it was up a bit but it’s now basically $0.

In other news. Another blue and hazy sky with lots of sun. Though there are some clouds and it appears a breeze based on trees I see through the window. It’s already 87F and with the sun I’ll walk tonight like I did the last two nights. Last two nights it was about 80F plus or minus a degree or two when I walked but no sun beating down.

I like to walk in the morning but need to do better at getting up. We all need to go to bed earlier. It’s a problem here.

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned I had paid off a personal loan. When I paid it off, the account closed, and I no longer have access to it.
Imagine my surprise when the bank tried to take my monthly auto-pay out of my checking account to make a payment that no longer exists. After spending about an hour on the phone with the bank yesterday, they found the money, and it will be returned to my checking account in no more than 7 business days.
I asked if this was going to be a recurring issue, and they couldn’t give me a firm yes or no answer.

Good Morning or afternoon.

Been sitting here messing around with Sketchup (drawing program). I've drawn up a lot of projects with this free drawing program. Easy to use (once you get use to it) and this one that I'm showing started out just practicing using the shortcuts for spacing anything you want more than two of and from there I just went a little crazy.

Here are a few pictures of what I've been playing around with. You can use this program to build structures, bridges, whatever you want and some of you may use it for 3D printing (I don't know if it would work for that but I don't see why not). It's a real basic drawing program. I like it because of the easy learning curve.

Anyway, I'm having fun with it and thought I would share. I started out with the building then basically went crazy from there 😆😆.

Good morning, all! It's pretty much an overcast day here in H-Town. The sun has peeked out a few times, but mostly not. We are expecting some possible rain today and tomorrow from the low Terry sent from Florida. I sure hope in turns inland and doesn't go toward the Hill Country. Those folks need a respite from rain.
I started an operating session yesterday, but got called away about halfway through. Maybe I'll finish later today.

Boris / Patrick - Good luck and prayers. Hopes for a speedy recovery.

Chad, I'm the "tip". I do my own research. I'm definitely not a day trader. I'm very conservative in our retirement accounts, but fairly aggressive in our taxable brokerage one.

As they move up I just move my stop loss up. There's nothing wrong with buying and holding "good" companies even if they are as you call them "boutique". Amazon would fall under "boutique" when it first went public @ $18, but now with the 4(?) stock splits, it's adjusted price would be .075. NVDA disproves your point too. ;)

I don't want to get into a back & forth on this. You have your way of doing things. I respect that, but that doesn't mean it's the only way.

I am in the "buy and hold" camp. I presently own just three stocks, all bought in the last year. Previously I just dealt with ETF's and mutual funds. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), while down most of the beginning of the year, is up 18% from where I bought it. Nvidia (NVDA) is up 58% in that same one year period, but my crown jewel is Palantir (PLTR) which is up 300% in just 10 months. I have no target price for selling any of these, and really don't have any clue if and when I might. Since all are in a brokerage account within one of my retirement IRA's, it is causing my RMD this year to increase. The RMD is coming from the cash portion.

If AMD keeps up what they're doing it will be bumping that $200 range sooner than later.

I'm typically "buy and hold" as well. Though tech stocks tend to be a lot more volatile so that's why I would not try and time it but would periodically take profits and then if I thought it still a good buy re-buy on a dip.

Almost all the ETF I have in the 401k self directed account are buy and hold for me (and I try and get ones that pay good dividends as well). I also have one stock, though only a handful of shares. That's AAPL and I only sold it once, when I thought I had too due to a 401k loan I needed to get to cover something on the house. It turned out to be in my favor as there was a crash I missed and I was re-able to buy low. But "tech stock of the day" I;d be more inclined to periodically take profits. Don't try and time it. In the end you won't win.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those wondering how our surgery patients are doing. It's Troy again.

You know the tennis racquet shaped bug zappers? I got one at my desk. With the wife having her indoor herb garden, she's generating a lot of gnats (according to her, mold gnats). We've got sticky traps on order, along with a pesticide she can apply to get rid of any waiting to hatch from the potting soil. In the meant time, she'd doing yogurt cups with the sugar and Apple Cider Vinegar (and dish soap) as traps.

Well, a few gnats find their way down to my desk in the basement. I occasionally see them when I'm painting. Trying to smack them with a tiny brush in one hand and a model in the other isn't recommended.

But when I'm at the computer desk, and i feel something tickling the hairs on my leg, I reach for the bug zapper and start waving it around. Rarely to do I get anything. But, two days in a row, I've gotten a satisfying CRACK or ZAP from it.

Wife said she wanted pizza tonight (don't blame me, I suggested the wings place). So I made her a cast iron pan pizza. But we were out of sausage. The bag in the freezer that I thought was some precooked sausage was pulled pork. It's not the same. So we settled for ham and pepperoni.

I finished assembling one of the last units for my dwarves. I've got a few more that I COULD do, but this is enough for now. So I took the last two units out to hit them with rattle-can primer.

and a closer view of the Automata... supposedly infernal critters captured by dragons, and put into iron bodies. Going to have a strong fire theme on the big ones.

Now it's time to hit them with a grey primer via airbrush. That one will be about a 3/4 coverage, shot from the top side only. It helps create deeper shadows when I leave some of the black in the cracks and crevices. A final drybrush of titanium white will be the final priming step.

Yes, fungus gnats. They're breeding in the wet soil. Tap your bins and find out where the source is and throw the dirt out. The other option is to get a bug light, but that just treats the symptoms like vinegar. Most of the organic insecticides do not kill the eggs, only the live active gnats.

Good luck.

I have one of those tennis racquet shaped bug zappers and carry it with me on my daily walks. A lot more effective than flailing
my arms and hands in a futile attempt of keeping those annoying gnats away. Love the snap sound as another gnat gets zapped.
A few walkers said that was a good idea but I have yet to see anyone else with one. Whatever winds your watch.

Good afternoon at 5:50 Central time. Early dinner as the grandson plays hockey at 6:45 down the street.

Stocks, I’ve given our kids suggestions but never a tip. The son is big on tech stuff and when he couldn’t get new video cards because of the data MINING SURGE few years ago he said buy some NVIAD. Glad I actually listened for once as NVIAD has been a nice stock and it fit my portfolio because I buy stocks that do dividends.

Terry as I mentioned previously even at 73 is still damn aggressive and will do day trading for 2-3 weeks in a row and then take a break. I have my portfolio and she has hers. She also handles our combined family one. Her and my brother are similar in their stock pursuits. I am a buyer and hold. A few weeks ago I took my portfolio and did a deep review.

The stock market though is like a casino, it’s a rigged game. You just need to be a touch faster
