I was talking to a noisy red squirrel this morning
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who talks to animals. Don't worry fellas, they have yet to talk back to me. I promise I will seek help if they do.

Louis - I got a few eyefuls when collecting for my paper route during HS. Several different houses many times. Some of them were really decent views. There were also the lingerie views as well. I didn't need Playboy!
I never had such luck, but my sisters were five and six years older than me and their friends more than happy to "educate" me. They loved my big boy body and baby face. The difficult part was keeping it secret from my sisters. My sisters were good Catholic girls, and they would not have approved! With "friends" like that who needs playboy magazines?

According to a WARN notice released on Friday, Intel is going to lay off 2,392 employees at four locations in the Hillsboro/Beaverton area on Tuesday, July 15...

This is really going to suck for the Hillsboro/Beaverton area. Intel is the largest employer in OR. There's been a lot of RIF's in Silicon Forest (Washington County) recently. There's only about 4.3 million people in the entire state.

Intel was a customer, for a short period. Getting a World Wide ID was a PITA. The background checks, security, NDA, safety protocols, etc took a couple of weeks, but I had access to all their buildings. Doing business with their construction & other contract vendors was just the opposite, simple & easy,....and so was the billing.
Wow, seems like a lot. Well, ~10% of the 23,000 current. Just remember it is a layoff, not termination. Kaiser did between 5% and 10% when needed every week on Monday manpower. Took me about 2 years before I moved up the pecking order and then didn't worry about it. Hmm, guess I didn't worry about it much when home - collected rocking chair and did not have to report to any .gov office other to sign up. Steelworks took care of getting people back when needed.

The vast majority of Intel employees are contract based and/or H1B. The positions have been eliminated. They aren't coming back. RIF, layoff, termination, etc. it's all the same when the CEO is trying to increase growth & shareholder equity. Their stock price is at about a 25 year low.

I watched a meeting by the CEO of Intel, and he told them in so many words they had completely missed the AI boat, and it was going to be difficult if not impossible to catch up.

Good morning all. A warm, cloudy day.
A large coffee on the go please, Flo.

The cooker is not working properly, so a new one is arriving sometime today.

In the train room yesterday evening I ran some new arrivals. They ran well.

Going through some old photographs

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those who weddingied yesterday.

It's Troy again.

Back from the nerdy niece's wedding. That was actually a theme - dress code was "fantasy formal (no tiaras)". Small, mostly family affair. My niece is the event coordinator at the library where this was held.

As a former wedding photog, I had to shoot the photog. No idea who she is, or what her background is. Fortunately, when I was shooting for cash, I never had to dye my hair blue. 😜 But I did carry a LOT more equipment than she had.

While there, I even met another model railroader. Directed him toward this forum. Don't know if he'll pop in to say "hi" or not. Told him we were the nicest forum in the MRR space. So y'all better be on your best behavior. 🤣

Heading to the game store this morning. Type at you later.

We have two neighborhood Facebook groups. We get door knockers and someone or ten posts and warns everyone. It’s kind of funny.
Around here, the information shows up as a rant, two days later. Don't know whether that's the Poster or FB. (Probably both).
Witnesses were in the neighborhood yesterday. No one came to my door, but we saw them on the street. Now that we ave a substantial community of Ultra Orthodox in the neighborhood, those encounters could be interesting.
