First time ever my sump pump pit filled up. It’s been raining several inches for the last couple of days. No, the builder didn’t install a pump for some reason. Might have to do that this weekend. For now I have a little guy doing the work. It’s going down very, very slowly but it’s going down. *sigh* At least the basement is still dry. 😏

AT least it didn't spill over. My house also has a sump, without a pump. In 39 years, it filled up once. That was maybe 20 years ago. Maybe, if it continues to rain the way it rained today, I might see it fill up again. I would hate to have to buy a pump now that I'm planning on selling.
Good evening. I heard earlier this evening that Ray Tinkler, staff member here known as tootnkumin, passed away June 15. At his request, there will be no memorial service.

He always had a great sense of humor. May he rest in Peace.

Texas is actually in the middle among the 50 states, ranking #26 by official statistics. Those statistics are for legal ownership. There's a lot of unregistered firearms in our state, the possession of them is not illegal. Your state of Montana tops the list at #1. I figured TX to be a lot higher, but as Chad pointed out, we have Austin. Most people that I know have unregistered firearms as well as registered ones.

Wow, ranked #50. When it comes to insurance rates, and taxes, Jersey is #1. Cost of living, top10. There has to be some correlation here, but it's beyond me.

I was on the phone with Chet yesterday, and he specifically asked about Ray. We were discussing MRL at the time, and its demise. May he RIP.
BTW, Chet said to say hello to everyone; he hasn't had his computer turned on in over 2 months, so he hasn't kept up. I'll have to let him know.

12 hours later we’re down to 19 1/2 inches. I said it was slow, but wow, it’s slow!

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those wondering where in the hell "Uncle" Dan Sickle's brigade as gone...

It's Troy again...

As for Uncle Dan... well... 162 years ago, Gen Meade wanted Cemetery Ridge and hIll defended, with his Union Army of the Potomac in a Fishhook formation from Little Round Top on the southern end, up Cem. Ridge, around Cem Hill and Culp's Hill.

Gettysburg: Day 2, July 2nd, 162 years ago

Lee made two very poorly coordinated attacks on Little Round Top, and on Culp's Hill.

Dan Sickles had the rough end of the long shank of the fishhook... and he went out too far.

My wife standing where Gen. Meade wanted Sickles troops. Instead "Uncle Dan" had them way out in the distance. Directly above my wife head in the photo is rock formation of Devils Den. Sickles had his troops out there, and in the wheatfield.

Meade sent to Gen Barnes of the I Corps to support the left flank.

The 20th Maine of Killer Angels fame, as seen in the Movie Gettysburg, were a hundred yards or so to my wife's left. Col Strong Vincent positioned Jeff Daniels... err... Joshua Chamberlain's regiment there as part of Barne's attempt to reinforce the left flank. Col Vincent was killed from action that day,

Gen Longstreet was to attack Little Round Top, despite his requests to Gen Lee to pull the ANV out of combat and skirt around Meade, to get between the Army of the Potomac and Washington. Gen Hood also wanted to turn the Union Flank by going via BIG Round Top, but was denied by the General Commanding.

Longstreet realized that a Signal post (dudes with spyglasses and signal flags) on Little Round Top, would be able to see his troop movements if he moved via the path Gen Lee wanted him to. So, he ordered a more circuitous route, giving Meade crucial time to fix Sickles' mistake.

Meanwhile the attack on Culps' Hill was going on while Longstreet and Hood maneuvered.

Overall, a bloody day of battle, that left the Union army intact to fight another day.

Another cool, for July, morning. A pleasant 67°F with matching dewpoint. It is going to be another nice day here, and then turn hot and humid again.

I did get the grass cut yesterday. I couldn't start on it until 1330 since it stayed wet for so long after the prior evening rain we had. That should hold it for another 8-9 days I hope. I had to take a couple of breaks which I don't normally do when cutting, but it was thicker than normal in spots.

I'm going to fire up the grill in a bit for a week's worth of eating. Might be the last time until September if this heat and humidity stays with us.

Hope you all have a good day.
