Happy Canada Day, eh!

Willie - 126/69 and a pulse of 50 is pretty much where my normal vitals are at. I looked at my last 3 annual EKG records and HR was 48, 52, 50. My Dr just says I have an efficient heart......for now.

The only anomaly this year was that my A1C went from 5.5 to 5.7. No change in weight or body fat (14.5%) so it must be an increase in fruit, chocolate, and ice cream.;)

Good morning all!

Welcome to July!

I suspect the neighborhood fireworks will start in full force tonight. I don't care that they do it, but wish they would cut it off at a decent hour. The dog will be skittish the next 4 days.

Looks like a really nice day in store. Going to be much cooler than it has been the last week. Currently 72F only heading up to 83F under a full sunny day. Storms that were forecasted last night never happened. Same weather pattern that has plagued us all season long, they all went around us. We did get the benefit of the cold front though.

Not sure yet what today will bring, I suspect I will keep busy enough though.

Have a safe day everyone!

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and a cool 68°. Rain had been predicted for today, but it surprised the weather geeks by coming last night around 8:30. Much more bark than bite. Winds were a steady 27 mph with gusts at 36 mph. Only left 0.25" in the rain gauge. I'm surprised that the ground is still wet this morning. I had irrigated the garden Sunday night because I didn't trust their forecast, so it isn't lacking. High today and tomorrow just around 90°, then even cooler until Saturday. But given the NWS track record around here, anything can happen. They've been mostly off for the past 3-4 years

The primary care doctor appointment yesterday went OK. I'm still not consistent with the BP readings, but mostly they are in my acceptable range. Pulse is still a lot lower than it used to be, mostly in the 55-59 range. He made a medication adjustment so we'll see how that goes. At 7:00 this morning everything was lower than normal, at 126/69 and pulse at 50. Yesterday was the first time in probably 15 years that I didn't have a blood draw! But the hospital did 3 just 2 weeks ago. Other than that, nothing notable yesterday, I mostly rested and used the pool!
Today I have the semi-annual Ophthalmologist visit at 9:30. Just a follow up to the cataract surgery from 2 years ago. I still see 20/20 without glasses and the cloudiness in the corners of my eyes has not returned. They'll check everything and schedule another appointment for early January.

I did make it out to the train shed yesterday for a bit. I ran trains. I did do a random maintenance check on a unit grain train, something I do every so often. Checked couplers and trucks and look for missing or broken parts. Of the 18 cars that I looked at, I cleaned the metal wheels on 7 and replaced the Accumate couplers on another car. Both trip pins were missing. It was built before I wised up and started dipping each one in a drop of Super Glue when assembling. Since I had only one in the lost & found stash, I just replaced them both with Kadee #148's. Had to glue a part back on a P2K grain hopper that I inadvertently broke off while handling. They do tend to be fragile, especially this one which is 20 years old and gets a lot of use.
Next section of the layout gets started with the quarterly layout cleanup today. It's the next 40' or so of the lower level. Lots of track here, with a 16' passing siding and almost 70' of industry sidings and spurs. Starts with visual inspection of all track and roadbed for lost parts; usual suspects are KD knuckle springs, brake wheels and air reservoirs. Will I start today? I don't usually start immediately, but I started the previous section a few days early in March.

Tom O - I still remember back 50 or so years ago, when Fox Broadcasting first went on the air in Dallas. Their weatherman did the weather from a covered patio outside the station. Only time that I saw that until much later when Jim Cantore popularized the concept.
Marlin - Looks like the pros outnumber the cons, but those 3 cons are pretty weighty. In my case, politics and cost of living would trade places with close by beaches & mountains, and our weather can get pretty hot. Our taxes are different, with no state income tax but a higher than most property tax. Like you posted, "no place is going to be perfect".
Todd - You're correct that Idaho is one of the most heavily armed states in the country. I had just read an article regarding that last week. Montana though, leads the pack. Regarding Idaho, I just read last night that that Kohlberger character was going to plead guilty to stabbing those college students.
Louis - My next door neighbor, Bubba, will blow up your $1000 worth of fireworks for you. He'll spend well over that and some of his city friends will buy a bunch to add to the excitement. From my yard, I usually have a view of 2 other places on the horizon with pretty spectacular displays also.

At noon today, we will be exactly half done with 2025. Everybody have a terrific Tuesday.
Willie: I figured Tx would also be one of the top ones for carry. When we happened through and got out the the truck stop area, almost everybody had something hanging from their hip. Who knows about concealed.

Kohlberger pleaded to avoid the death penalty. Life in prison, no parole. Not sure what the State is gonna do.

Non-Conductive:
Dielectric grease is a non-conductive substance, meaning it does not allow electricity to flow through it.

Not for Bridging Connections:
If dielectric grease is used to bridge the connection points, it could potentially cause issues by creating a pathway for electricity where it shouldn't be.
I’m not arguing that it should be used for bridging connections, but does the AI read its own response?

If it’s non-conductive how can it create a pathway for electricity where it shouldn’t be?

Texas is usually near the top of lists but due to the population and places like Austin it brings the average down but the absolute number is probably my crazy

I’ve read there are more machine guns in Texas than in any state. Don’t know if it’s true.

It kind of contradicts itself, doesn't it?

I know we used a heck of a lot of this stuff in connectors of all types. It was a savior especially for connectors under hood and under vehicle.
Manufactures loved to put extremely sensitive connections in those areas exposed to all types of conditions.

Fully automated machine guns are pretty much illegal. Need to have a Gun Smith license ( or something like that ) to operate full auto. So it is 1 pull on the trigger for 1 shot; pretty much like an AR which are not nor can be full auto. The Matty Mattel is another story. There are places here in MT that let you fire full auto, it is spendy. I did a 60 cal a few years back just cuz I missed doing that since getting out of the USMC many moons ago; that was $150 for for 100 rounds at that time. But it was fun!

Good morning all,

I decided to split some wood this morning, needed some cardio tune up. Just doing a little recovery now...

Fireworks? Our neighbor 1/2 mile away puts on a huge show. About 30 cars at his house so lots of relatives, friends. I am not a big fan of fireworks but we do not put up a stink, he usually quiets down around 10 pm.

It is a beautiful 72 outside now, light breeze, sunshine. I will be working in the trainshed for a while then mowing lawn. I will start on the accessory building that goes with the Crex warehouse. Also, need to piece together the cupolas for the warehouse. Also, a little more landscaping, I mixed up a new batch of glue.

I read an interesting quote, Bill Keane of Family Circus cartoon:

"yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but that today is a GIFT.

And that's why it's called the present."

Machine guns are legal in many states with the correct forms and licensing. It is a rich man's game though. They are usually very expensive.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and though going PewPewPewPewPewPewPewPew!

It's troy again.

Wife made a request for dinner tonight.

So I fired this up.

Grill 1.jpg

But what does she want for dinner?

grill 2.jpg

smoked meatloaf.

I want cornbread with it, but she doesn't want to turn the oven off inside. Well, I know where this big red egg is that gets really hot if I let it. May have to turn the temp up for the last 45 minutes and toss in a pan of cornbread.

83 here this morning, heading for 93. Cloudy with forecast of rain and thunderstorms. Got to the chiropractor this morning and the back feels better even though I'm still walking crooked. May go and pick up a new compressor today, got a HF coupon, so it would be around $50.
Most of our crew departed this morning, just leaving our nephew here as he gets up to speed as our new Pastor.

What is your favorite fair food?
Hotdogs! What else?
Great article well worth the read, thank you.

You got to like a man named Bubba.

I'm jealous! Chances are I will be asleep before the sun goes down. But your view would be worth staying awake for.

HR was 48, 52, 50.
Were you an athlete?

When I had my first heart attack, they kept me overnight. When I fell asleep, I set off the alarms on the monitor. My heart rate dropped below 45. Triggering an emergency response and people rushing into my room with all kinds of... stuff. Finally, a young doctor asked me "Were you an athlete?" I said "Yes, a lifetime ago." He said, "it can last a lifetime" and they let me get back to sleep.

Mine used to be in the lows 50s, not anymore. I guess that lifetime is over. My blood pressure today was 105/61 heart rate 76. Which was good enough to clear me to have the colonoscopy on the 9th.

What fun it is getting old.
