So, won't di-electric grease cause a short? I used it once on my spark plug boots and then my car started misfiring badly. I had just bought some expensive plug wires too. The toyota dealer told me that the plug wires were bad and showed me that they were cross firing all over the place. I hope I was using di-electric grease... :p
From the High Church of Google AI:

Non-Conductive:

Dielectric grease is a non-conductive substance, meaning it does not allow electricity to flow through it.

Sealing Against Moisture and Corrosion:
It's used to seal electrical connections, preventing moisture and corrosion from interfering with the connection.

Proper Application:
It should be applied to the outside of the connection, after the connection is already made. It should not be used to bridge the connection points themselves.

Not for Bridging Connections:
If dielectric grease is used to bridge the connection points, it could potentially cause issues by creating a pathway for electricity where it shouldn't be.

I can't do paypal and really do not recommend it after what I went through with them. They made me switch to paypal Japan after I changed my address. They have a complete lack of understanding about ID security and had me send them my registration card and driver's license only to tell me that they wouldn't work. Why ask for it if you know it's not going to work? While working this with them, they'd switch out agents every 5 minutes. Too many people in the chat and all asking for the same thing. I finally got fed up and closed the account. I really did feel like I had been phished.

Yeah, understandable. And thinking about it some more, I had done some research into safe ways to get paid and this was the best I could come up with. I confered with my credit union. But, this was mostly for my protection and not considering the other side. So, I guess there's no sense in trying this again. If paypal is the only way, it ain't happening.

I did get one nibble though. I even went to the base to get a stronger box to ensure that the loco was protected as much as possible. Stuffed well, got the weights and measurements and shipping cost. He and I didn't realize that the bank to bank wire was so costly, so he backed out. And I would have used the dreaded USPS... haha.

Good morning gang!

77° under partly cloudy skies with a high expected of about 86° later. Also, in the forecast somewhere between 2 and 4 PM is a good old thunderstorm. This means somewhere between 2 and 4 PM. I can expect the border collie to come down the basement and get underneath my computer table. Yes the big dog is a big chicken, meanwhile, the little dog will sleep right through it.
Better get a move on, the physical therapist and the home health nurse will be coming by soon. Another day of getting poked and prodded.

Good morning from Wisconsin and a prolific user of PayPal. As Smudge52 can tell you it’s works from Great Britain to Wisconsin easily enough. I have also shipped and purchased from Canada, Mexico, Italy, Peru, Germany and Argentina with no issues and no worries about scams. I buy, sell equipment and weather trains. I only use PayPal except for an occasional check writer I trust. I use the USPS almost 100% of the time with no issues so far

Weather in So. Central Wisconsin is happening right now! 62f degrees feels like 62 and heading into the mid 80’s. Dew point is 61 and the humidity is at 94%. It actually felt nice outside though. The WeatherChannel shows the wind moving at 6mph but I cannot see any fluttering leaves in the trees. The NWS still part of the now diminished but operating National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has a nice description of the difference between dew point and relative humidity at weather.gov. Based on that reading it’s sticky outside!

I’m walking later on the machine that goes nowhere in AC comfort. I am waiting for my alarm to go off at 6:40 to tell me to go grab a shower as I get ready for my dentist appointment this morning at 7:20. They open at 6am on T/W/T. Just the 2x’s a year hook up with the hygienist no biggie.

Yesterday we ended up 2 hours away as we went for an early dinner with Terry’s best friend in Racine. We had no idea where to head off to but we needed to get out of the house. I suggested she call Pat and it worked out. Dinner was at 4 and we got there at 2:15. I can and do drive at night but prefer to drive with the sun still up. We left at 6:30 and sunset was 8:47 last night. A good time and as usual a few Danish Kringles came home with us.

I had mentioned before I have happily slowed my weathering commission work down. Up until I got home yesterday I only had 21 diesels to weather by the end of August but no freight cars. That changed when I got home last night. 4 boxes totaling 48 cars were on the front porch. Terry was happy as it will keep me busy and out of her hair. Her words were slightly different but we are a family friendly forum.

Morning all,

66° and sunny, high of 90° later.

Loved the Buc-ees tribute, but I'll probably never go again. Products are good, but had better for less. Way too crowded when I went and don't even think about getting gas. Be lucky to get to a pump and no squeegees to wash and wipe the windows. That's a deal killer for me as I tend to wipe out entire colonies of what ever is flying and any particular time.

I wrote a thing about my trip to G-burg

162 years ago, General Buford declared Gburg "Good Ground" to fight a defensive battle.

Reminds me of my early days in the Nav. The routine was get up, stuff, shower and shave, get in formation and march to chow. Whether you ate or not was up to you. Well, one day we decided to get back into bed until the next muster time. I had my trusty Casio watch that made a racket when the alarm went off, so I set it and we all fell asleep. We wake up later and late. I couldn't understand why my watch didn't wake us up until I looked in the mirror and saw the imprint of the watch on my chest. Yeah, we got it that day and I got it more later.

Morning all. This will be the pick day of the week here in Southern Illinois. 72°F right now and dewpoint is coming down. It should be in the low 60°Fs by noon with any luck. It's still going to be warm at 87°F, but it won't feel like 100°F.

I guess the grass is going to get cut today as soon as it dries out from last night's rain.

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and a cool 68°. Rain had been predicted for today, but it surprised the weather geeks by coming last night around 8:30. Much more bark than bite. Winds were a steady 27 mph with gusts at 36 mph. Only left 0.25" in the rain gauge. I'm surprised that the ground is still wet this morning. I had irrigated the garden Sunday night because I didn't trust their forecast, so it isn't lacking. High today and tomorrow just around 90°, then even cooler until Saturday. But given the NWS track record around here, anything can happen. They've been mostly off for the past 3-4 years

The primary care doctor appointment yesterday went OK. I'm still not consistent with the BP readings, but mostly they are in my acceptable range. Pulse is still a lot lower than it used to be, mostly in the 55-59 range. He made a medication adjustment so we'll see how that goes. At 7:00 this morning everything was lower than normal, at 126/69 and pulse at 50. Yesterday was the first time in probably 15 years that I didn't have a blood draw! But the hospital did 3 just 2 weeks ago. Other than that, nothing notable yesterday, I mostly rested and used the pool!
Today I have the semi-annual Ophthalmologist visit at 9:30. Just a follow up to the cataract surgery from 2 years ago. I still see 20/20 without glasses and the cloudiness in the corners of my eyes has not returned. They'll check everything and schedule another appointment for early January.

I did make it out to the train shed yesterday for a bit. I ran trains. I did do a random maintenance check on a unit grain train, something I do every so often. Checked couplers and trucks and look for missing or broken parts. Of the 18 cars that I looked at, I cleaned the metal wheels on 7 and replaced the Accumate couplers on another car. Both trip pins were missing. It was built before I wised up and started dipping each one in a drop of Super Glue when assembling. Since I had only one in the lost & found stash, I just replaced them both with Kadee #148's. Had to glue a part back on a P2K grain hopper that I inadvertently broke off while handling. They do tend to be fragile, especially this one which is 20 years old and gets a lot of use.
Next section of the layout gets started with the quarterly layout cleanup today. It's the next 40' or so of the lower level. Lots of track here, with a 16' passing siding and almost 70' of industry sidings and spurs. Starts with visual inspection of all track and roadbed for lost parts; usual suspects are KD knuckle springs, brake wheels and air reservoirs. Will I start today? I don't usually start immediately, but I started the previous section a few days early in March.

Tom O - I still remember back 50 or so years ago, when Fox Broadcasting first went on the air in Dallas. Their weatherman did the weather from a covered patio outside the station. Only time that I saw that until much later when Jim Cantore popularized the concept.
Marlin - Looks like the pros outnumber the cons, but those 3 cons are pretty weighty. In my case, politics and cost of living would trade places with close by beaches & mountains, and our weather can get pretty hot. Our taxes are different, with no state income tax but a higher than most property tax. Like you posted, "no place is going to be perfect".
Todd - You're correct that Idaho is one of the most heavily armed states in the country. I had just read an article regarding that last week. Montana though, leads the pack. Regarding Idaho, I just read last night that that Kohlberger character was going to plead guilty to stabbing those college students.
Louis - My next door neighbor, Bubba, will blow up your $1000 worth of fireworks for you. He'll spend well over that and some of his city friends will buy a bunch to add to the excitement. From my yard, I usually have a view of 2 other places on the horizon with pretty spectacular displays also.

At noon today, we will be exactly half done with 2025. Everybody have a terrific Tuesday.
