@DeaconKC FWIW, Robin Ventura is from my home town of Santa Maria, Ca and his uncle has been a good friend of mine for 50 years. SM was proud of robin.82 here already and heading for mid 90s. Rain forecast off and on most of the week.
My Mom was the Master of the "One arm run around" when using a belt. For those of you unfamiliar with the term it refers to her holding onto one arm while I made circles trying to avoid the belt. It only worked until I ran up against a piece of furniture! Dad would just grab me by the scruff of the neck and use the belt. Never abused, but they made sure I knew right from wrong.
On the subject of baseball, lifelong White Sox and Cardinals fan ;hey, I'm a Southsider so a Cub hater, although I do love Wrigley Field]. Also a fan of the Cubbies' Rick Monday for his rescue of the flag when a piece of crap tried burning one during a game. Also, never will forget the day Robin Ventura of mt White Sox got six hits off Nolan Ryan!
yes, it's about 5 miles awayThat's how it is here.
Only if it needs a signature and no one is home do they make you drive to the PO.
FedEx has already managed to screw up the delivery and it hasn't even left New Jersey yet. It might not arrive until Thursday, so stand by.We’ll need a picture……
I was never a big baseball fan, but one of our vendors regularly took me to Ranger home games. The ladies were always worth watching. I happened to be at that game and it was interesting after that. Fans were wild! Ventura really had a very good career but those six hits are always what he will be remembered for. Also, never will forget the day Robin Ventura of mt White Sox got six hits off Nolan Ryan!
I grew up on the southside. Near 68th and Hamlin, stayed through 5th grade and then moved southwest to Oak Forest. Class of 70 at Tinley Park HS. Always a White Sox fan but I did root for the Cubs especially Billy Williams who worked for my dad from November to the end of January for years. Dad sold Buicks and Billy helped in that as a sales/ambassador. As did Bobby Hull and Keith Magnusion of the Black Hawks who worked for him in the Summer. No Bulls or Sox players. The Sox players usually worked at a dealship that former White Sox Tony Piet owned. I was good golfing friends with his son.82 here already and heading for mid 90s. When talking about Billy Williams Leo Durocher said, “You write his name down, in the same spot every day, and you forget it. He will play left, he will bat third.”Billy Williams
Sounds similar to Willie Mays careerWhen talking about Billy Williams Leo Durocher said, “You write his name down, in the same spot every day, and you forget it. He will play left, he will bat third.”
WIlliams Played 1,117 consecutive games, setting a National League record at the time. He was not only dependable he was a complete player who could do everything and do most things at an elite level.
1961 NL Rookie of the Year.
Top 10 MVP finishes: Multiple seasons, including runner-up in 1970 and 1972.
Six-time NL All-Star should have been more.
1972 NL Batting Champion, .333 average.
Eleven times he finished in the top ten in total bases in the NL.
Ten times he finished in the top ten in hits in the NL.
Nine times he finished in the top ten in runs scored in the NL.
Nine times he finished in the top ten in homeruns in the NL.
Eight times he finished in the top ten in RBI in the NL.
Eight times he finished in the top ten in slugging percentage in the NL.
Eight times he finished in the top ten in triples in the NL.
Seven times he finished in the top ten in doubles in the NL.
Six times he finished in the top ten in on base percentage in the NL.
Four times he finished in the top ten in batting average in the NL.
Three times he finished in the top ten in stolen bases in the NL.
He was a tough hitter to strike out. He averaged under 59 strikeouts per year and never struck out more than 84 times in any season. While hitting a total of 426 home runs, amazing!
Williams wasn’t flashy on the field, but he was known for his intelligent positioning and reliability defensively.
Very few were more consistent and even fewer were a more complete player.
Billy Willaims was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1987. My only question is "What took so long?"
