Good morning: Jersey Shore Weather; Foggy, 71°. Going to 86°, Partly sunny. Overnight was 62°.
Those cute kitties made my morning.
Pier 90 on the West Side...the only ship I ever boarded there was the USS Wasp. VIP tour the day of arrival...a Fleet Week, long time ago. (During the time frame when the Intrepid was in Drydock on Staten Island).

Those VH-22s make the ship look small. They are an awesome aircraft.
Well imagine that, i was deployed on Wasp back in 1996 when in the Corps. 6 months deployment into Mediteranean Sea. Back then the USMC was just beginning to flight test the "Ospreys" (VH22). My squadron was still flying CH46 "Phrogs", with some of them in service since Vietnam.

Good Morning All. Clear here and 71°, headed back into the triple digits today with 103°. After that, 9 days in a row (maybe more) with 104° predicted. This is getting old. Pool temperature however remained at 84° all day yesterday. Felt great.

Idle thought: It's been reported that the world's oceans are rising. Could it be the displacement from all of the cruise ships that David has been posting???;)

Out in the train shed yesterday, I started another of those minor small projects to fill in areas that I had skipped initially when getting trains running. Here's the scene behind the Stone Bakery, a DPM kit.

First run through looks a bit rough, I think that I'll go back with some spackle and redo the concrete area.

Note the lady in blue and the three people next to her. They're visible here but they're inside the structure. When I originally did the building, I had planned to orient it differently so they would be seen. Now the back faces the aisle and they are hidden. They will be removed.
Another problem, and it is a severe rookie mistake. The bakery was dull-coated, and it was in place when I sprayed the IPA/water mixture on the ground foam to the right. We all know what happens when you do that!

The picture looks more extreme than it really is. But it's an easy fix by spraying the dull coat over again.

Sherrel - I honestly don't understand how you and Kate have been able to tolerate a two-story house for so long. I guess that it can be done if you're used to it. I am not! When we vacation in Gulf Shores AL, we always rent a condo with an elevator, instead of staying with her sister & friends in a beach house with stairs. Still have to use stairs to get into her place.
The Surf Line will disappear into the ocean before folks out there can agree on a solution. By then, the cost will kill the project. Just look at their attempts at high speed rail.
Scary to read about the UTI! May you have a quick recovery.
Tom O - Elon is beginning to wear out his welcome in parts of Texas, especially on the coast around the Space X complex.
Curt - El Paso is almost a forgotten region of Texas, it's just so far away from the rest of the state. Being such a big state, we have several (5) distinct regions, all with their own unique weather patterns.
Troy - Pretty spooky warriors.

Hmmmh! I don't use Twitter, never have. But do parents want their kids looking at an X site?

Everyone have an excellent day.
Willie, Elon the Huckster has also definitely worn out his welcome in eastern Travis County. He promises things but does little or no follow up and since Tesla doesn’t have a PR division there really is no one to question.

He hasn’t started his promises to improve the educational opportunities around SpaceX. Something about the local neighborhood too, but can’t recall. Austin though still thinks of him as MR. Wonderful. Terry keeps telling me not to knock him too much. We have done very well over the years with Tesla stock. But she is right and has invested with him without my support. Since I am terrible about guessing on stocks she has done the right thing by ignoring my seldom asked stock guessing advice. Give me real estate any day

Willie: See your point. But it looks like so many weather worn 150 year old city structures, especially if located adjacent to an empty lot where something used to be. Guess it really depends on what effect you are looking for.
Joe - I am seriously thinking of just leaving it. I have seen that kind of weathering many times before on older buildings. And as I posted, it does not look that extreme in person.

In my opinion only, he needs to give up a few companies and work towards patching up relations with the ones that he keeps Let's see, there's Tesla, SpaceX, The Boring Company, Neuralink, Solar City, Starlink, Twitter, and I think that he has a lithium battery company as well.
I don't know much about some of his company issues, but SpaceX is causing great environmental harm in South Texas, like concrete dust spreading 6.5 miles away every time they launch one of those newer big experimental rockets.

He's a money man, and not a good idea man.

I've read several former employee reports (and one I know personally) say that managing Elon in any of his businesses is more of a full-time job than in any other top corporation. Not just in how to approach the CEO with a good idea... But more of how to keep Elon distracted so the company can grow and function, without getting derailed by any of his ideas.

What I've learned is he is good at finding tech that is about to expand and grow, buying it, and then the people making the company grow, try to continue while pointing E at every wild squirrel running by the windows.

Twitter seems to be (follow the money) his albatross. Any thing more I can say will move into the politics behind his purchase.

Afternoon All,

Started out at ** and drizzling here currently. It's supposed to get up to *** today. The **** is for TomO (I believe). :D :D :D :D Went to Sams Club and spent way too much $$$.

Gary- I hope you and your family are well with all the flooding in NS.

Mac- I look forward to seeing your modeling of the L1.

Willie- More GI fun.😲 Nice scenes. It sure seems like the DOJ wants to ease the way for illegals to get into TX. They're not migrants no matter how many times the news calls them that.

Sherrel- I'm glad it was minor, but it made me wonder if you thought it was serious why go to the urgent care? Around here they would tell you to go to the ER. I get my 2nd Shingles shot Wednesday. The first one gave me a sore arm for weeks.

David- Eventful cruise.

Todd- It's great you made sure they survived.

TomO- In my experience the more you are on rough water the more comfortable you are on it. When it comes to revising history and tearing down statues the rule seems to be if it's of a minority then it's OK.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Passenger sharksI'm wondering how it was to run those diesel Baldwins. Very little has been written on that. The one account i found was in Don Ball book "Americas Colorfull Railroads" where he writes about talking to an engineer while him and his buddy are riding up Horseshoe Curve. The engineer was reffering to "Centipedes" and their quirks.
All Locomotives have quirks. EMD, Alco, GE, Baldwin et. all. Electric motors have more quirks than diesels and are more likely to trip out, for some passing fault.
Most Baldwins were delivered with a Pneumatic Throttle, Most other diesels came with electric throttles. Baldwins came with Westinghouse traction motors, Most other diesels came with GE traction Motors. Baldwins could haul heavier trains than other diesels. Baldwins were difficult to maintain. the DeLaVerne Diesel had its issues, mostly with cooling system leaks and vibration. Under load, Baldwins tended to overheat, or trip the over speed protection. The Woodward governor, which worked so well with GM 567 diesels, would leak oil and trip out on a Baldwin due to vibration.
Baldwins were missed when phased out. example, a 660 HP DS 4-4-600 would out pull a SW1 or S1 / S3. A 1000 HP DS 4-4-1000 outpulled an NW-2 and generally an Alco S-2 or S-4. Baldwin S-12 switchers, were classified as Heavy Switchers, and were used as Road Switchers, generally equivalent to GP7s in pulling power.
Centipedes were not a good example, as they were an attempt to build a diesel powered articulated engine. The RF 15 / RF 16 freight sharks and the Passenger sharks were significantly better. Mechanical people on the PRR/PC preferred EMD power and orders reflected that.

Semper Fi! My youngest was in an HLMA Squadron, doing avionics on the "skids" UH-1 and AH-1 aircraft that dated back to Vietnam. USMC is still flying UH-1 Y and AH-1Z variants, with twin engines, and 4 blade rotors. Awesome aircraft.

I know I have plenty of reading material, but I couldn't let these two books pass by. 30p (less than 50 cents) for the two.

Been in the train room. Although off stage the railway line from Leeds Sovereign Street runs through Rothwell. Rothwell has three main collieries there. I have made four wagons named Rothwell Collieries; all different running numbers.

Other cruise hacks. Unless you have to travel on the suits on the upper decks, lower decks and mid-ship have less motion. I'm familiar with Norwegian Cruise Line, so I'll use their terminology. Judging by your travel frequency and what I assume Terry's tastes would be, you'd probably end up in a suite or "The Haven" (Upgraded suites that share an upper deck pool and sun area).

You can still get midships, but not as mid as if you slum it in "steerage" with my wife and I. We travel cheaply, to do and see more for less $$. Though we are starting to bump up some conveniences.

When it comes to cruising, we'll take an inside closet... er cabin because we only use it for showering, sleeping, and locking up personal items. We're out and about the rest of the time.

As for motion sickness, avoid hurricane season. Alaska is good, because you've got the barrier island to the west as you climb the inside passage.

I love cruising, but can get motion sick with violent motion... One cruise had 15-foot seas. That was making me queasy-ish. But not sick. It was worst when I was inside and couldn't look out. But, that was only about half a day.

Cruises to Alaska usually depart from Seattle or Vancouver BC. Most often they are 7-day round trip. But some have a 14-day itinerary (two back-to-back 7 days). You can do the same trip twice, once in reverse. Or do just one leg of it. That's my preferred method, but then you'd be flying home from Alaska. If only you knew a pilot with a plane? ;)
Good Morning all. 11 am and 103 here, going up to 110. But, it's a Dry Heat, come winter, But It's a Dry cold, come Spring, But It's a Dry Rain!

Never got sick on a cruise, my worst was to Hawaii, 75 knot winds, most of the way. Also, a bit of advice, stick to 7 day cruises. The Hawaii cruise was 16 days, and the boat was loaded with "Old Farts". I have never seen so many up-tight and intolerant people in my life. My theory is that only old farts have the money and time to do cruises over 7 days. A 7 day cruise has a younger crowd just there to enjoy themselves, and have a good time. This is coming from someone who attained Old Fartdom a long time ago.

Most interesting cruise, was a Royal carib cruise that rammed the Dock at Costa Maya. got a 60 foot gash in the side of the bow. We were stranded in Costa Maya for two days while they repaired the boat. They had a free open bar, and we got a rebate $250. For those that said they had to get back, they got some busses through the Mexican jungle, and Bandito territory. We waited the 2 days on the beach.

All in all, I still like cruising.

Jim has put me in with the 'Old Farts'. Thanks Jim. :)

I am with the longer the cruise, the better.

Been in some rough weather though. Being 'old seadogs' Dawn and I take it in our stride.
Crossing the Atlantic, Southampton to New York, we hit a bit of rough weather. That was an interesting trip indeed.
David I got very sick during a storm in the north Atlantic while I was in the Marines. You could see the propellers of other ships come out of the water. It reminded me of the Victory at Sea episode where the fleet was caught in a Monsoon.

Curt - I did not think it was that bad - excepting it scared me. Sunday the Urgent Care was very light.
Unless I think I have a heart problem - I go there first and then if serious - they will ship me to the ER and taken by ambulance immediately - there is no waiting or checking in for the ER. At least that is what happened with my A-Fib.
And yes - Arm is very sore today and I don't feel very chipper perhaps due to the medication and injection. got 3 pills a day for a ten day period.
At least, so far, the burning/stinging pain is mostly gone when I pee ... that brought tears a couple times!

Slow moving today and Kate and I have to go to hospital this afternoon as a very close friend had ZERO potassium and is in ICU Yesterday she was in a coma - not sure about today at this time.

None of us are going to get out of this world alive!

i went yesterday late afternoon to look at the "open house" that Kate had found. She was looking at all the shiny stuff and I was looking at what all it did not have that we do. Thought about it most of night and told her this morning my concerns AND that no way was I going to move! I told her that the two commissions alone of buying and selling would pay for any/all of the upgrades she sees there + interest rate would almost double from what we owe, no solar so a much higher electric bill, no room for her saloon, no doggie door, and so on. A biggie for me is no view from the house where we have a nice large corner lot and nice views North and South! Even if the stairs become a hindrance we have the place and option of an elevator. No - an't moving - she mostly agreed - I am in shock!
Maybe I will feel better tomorrow - gonna rest myself now!

Afternoon all,

Didn't do much around the house yesterday as the wife wasn't feeling good. I did get the laundry finished, along with some other odds and ends.
Wife tossing again about selling the house for a smaller place. Painting has moved up the list.

Today was busy at the office. Just the boss and I and he has been in meetings all day. Almost done for the day!

Everyone have a good night!

Ane the ship bows were almost diving under water. No one was on the deck that day.

Methinks the military transport ships, especially those of yester-yore, were not quite like the cruise ships of today 😇

My wife won't go on a cruise. She says she would sit in the room with her life vest on. So we won't be going. I'd like to try it. My mom and dad did a Caribbean to LA through the Panama Canal cruise and my mom liked it. My dad was ok with it and like the canal passage. He was sort of an introvert and had no interest in shore excursions or the like but the actual canal passage fascinated him. That was his only cruise but my mom has been with my sister and her family on a couple Mediterranean cruises and an Alaska cruise.

Closest I've been was on the Stockholm to Helsinki and back "Baltic Cruise" 🤣 . It was January and pretty rough seas for the over night and I was uncomfortable both there and back -- feeling quite sick but never actually having anything come up... The ferries are quite big and heavy but not as big as a cruise ship. Plus I just had deck passage (free with my Eurail pass) and so had to use the little deck passage cubbies or the sitting rooms to try and sleep.
