Afternoon All,

Yes, I survived the stress test. The PA's said everything looked good, but the Cardiologist had to review the strips. I did realize I'm not as young as I used to be. 😲 After getting home I had a wonderful cup of coffee that miraculously cured my headache.;) In the land of trees I finished up the 22 from yesterday and planted them then trimmed and painted 17 more which will do it for now. I have more armatures, but I want to save them for future layout modifications like the cow field pond.

Patrick- You're just teasing us with the post about the smoker.

Willie- Your build looks very good.

TomO- Like you I walk early, or I don't do the walk. I'm usually done by 6:30 am. I left the house today for the VA at 7 am and it was already 80F.

Guy- Nice photo and good luck with the chores.

Mac- Great perspective in the first photo.

Sherrel- Interesting cabin car. Reminds me of the resin one I built not too long ago.

Terry- That meme is awesome.

Bellevue Roundhouse at dawn.

I hope everyone has a good night.

uhmmm. Baja Blast doesn’t have watermelon flavor. It’s lime. It’s a Lime Dew. It’s been available in supermarkets for years now but only during the summer (in the past — I’ve noticed it more year round now). In the past you’d wait for Baja Blast to show up in the early summer and it would be available for a month or so. You’d stock up before it disappeared again. Recently I’ve seen in more available in the stores. Don’t know if it’s gone year round or just a longer “season”. I bought several 12 packs of No Sugar Baja Blast last summer and still have some left as I am not a big soda drinker at home. The summer before last I stocked up on a few 12 packs and had one can left by the time it hit the stores last year.

there is a watermelon flavored Dew called “Major Melon” and is available in both No Sugar and normal varieties. It’s not bad.
This is why I dont trust my taste buds. It could be lime flavored, all I know is that I like it. These are the same taste buds that tell me that liver & onions and Brussel sprouts are tasty, so that could be the issue!

Oooh roundhouse! MOAR!;)

I like to get them started young.
Both my gran-daughters have birthday's this week, one July 4 and the other July 5. So, I got them both real cameras instead of toys.
It seemed sensible to me, because they are constantly asking to borrow one of mine. They take not bad photos. I think they're 5 & 6 years old.
Pretty soon they'll be following old grandpa down to the tracks to take some train pics.

Some were showing ship photos earlier, so here's mine of the ferry we took to the island. That would be the only kind of cruise I'm ever going to buy for my wife.

Curt - Glad you survived the stress test. Never fun, is it!? - I'm going in for a colonoscopy procedure in mid July. I have a weird feeling they're going to stick something up my rear, and I'll probably be tied down.

Sherrel - The Hummingbirds were late coming here, as well. The wife was cranky about that, because she plants lots of special Hummingbird flowers and thought her efforts were for nothing. It was a weird year. We had hardly no snow, but, it was a cold spring.

Have a great evening, folks!

yes it is very tasty. Baja Blast brings Taco Bell a Slot of customers. I don’t have figures but outside of the regular Dew I’d bet Baja Blast is their number 1 seller.
If you’re actually at Taco Bell try a Bob Marley Blast. Fill your cup with 80% Baja blast. Fill the rest with normal My Dew (I use the no sugar variants personally) and then put one squirt of the fruit punch gatorade on top. For a short while you’ll get some fun banding of colors (which gives the name) and the taste is awesome. The single small squirt of fruit punch changes the flavor profile just enough.

Willie I was watching Fleetwood Mac on AXS TV last night from Boston without Christine McVie. It wasn't good. They didn't do any of her songs instead using Stevie Nicks B side hits and Lindsey Buckingham's 10-minute guitar solo in their place. I turned it off a hour into the concert I think she was still alive at the time of the concert but didn't chose to go on tour,

Deffinitely square looking. From what you wrote about traveling to Japan, you probably rode on them. I've never been to Japan, so my imagination is rather "idealized"-i like the Kodama series of EMUs;)
I don’t know if I’ve actually ridden a 103 series. Maybe once or twice without realizing it. They’ve mostly been retired but there might be a few left on small feeder lines or something.

the 103 is a product of the JNR era (Japan National Railways I believe) . The national railroad that was later privatized in the late 80s. Given that, there were a lot of them made and they were found across several of the later JR companies that were formed after the JNR was broken up and privatized so you’d find them in the Tokyo area and Osaka area and many others. Later post privatization you find that each JR company pretty much has its own models and you don’t find too many cross company models of trains. (With Shinkansen kind of being a small exception).

most of the 103 were liveried in sold colors and the very flat nose and sharp corners is distinctive and looks good with those colors. Over time they were upgraded with A/C, changes to windows, etc so the 103s at the end of their lives looked different than at the beginning.

I’m sure my wife had ridden them a lot in her life but I’m not sure if I ever did. They were certainly in service when we were visiting as the last ones in Osaka (Loop Line) were retired late 201x and some of the outer branch lines and Kyoto and stuff may still have them but we didn’t ride the loop line much. But I’ve seen them a few times and I’ve always liked the looks. Retro modern kind of.

Kodama is not actually a type of train (model). It is a type of train service that some of the JR companies use for their “slowest” Shinkansen lines of service. They’re the slowest as they stop at most of the stations along the Shinkansen lines while faster lines of service only stop at the biggest stations. The Shinkansen track network is dedicated to only the bullet train. So there are separate Shinkansen stations from the regular JR trains or the stations are divided into standard services and Shinkansen services and there are ticket gates in between the two sides. Every JR company runs multiple levels of Shinkansen Service. Smaller stations along the Shinkansen tracks get Kodama service and the expectation is you’ll ride it to the next big station and transfer to one of the fast lines of Shinkansen service. Kodak’s service from Osaka to Tokyo is like 6 hours or something. But the faster services are 3 hour or less. So you might take the Kodama train to Osaka and then switch to a faster line of service to get to Tokyo. Kodama are also used for commuters from a little further out of a big city to quickly get into the big city (compared to standard trains). JR central’s fastest is called Nozomi, and their middle tier service is Hikari. The difference between them is not great. Hikari will stop at an extra station or two between Osaka and Tokyo for example. Kodama stops at them all. I’ve never ridden a Nozomi as they are not included in the JR Pass but have ridden a lot of Hikari. The problem is Noxomj can be as close as 7 minutes apart while you might only have 1 or 2 Hikari services in an hour. JR West and JR Kyushu run their Shinkansen together kind of and their fastest is Mizuho (and has the same limitations as Nozomi) and their middle service is Sakura, which is almost as fast but not as frequent. They also have Kodama service. JR East (which is north and east of Tokyo ) runs similar services but has different names for them and doesn’t have the JR pass restrictions. I’ve only ridden them a few times as we mostly stay in Tokyo or south and are based in Kobe/Osaka area when we are there.

my understanding is that before the Shinkansen there was a line of service called Kodama that was an express that ran to Tokyo or something. I’ve not read about it in a long while so I could be off.

Evening all,

Finally got most of the mess cleaned up. My smoker is an electric one. Forgot how much of a pain it is to clean afterwords. Turkey tastes good, brisket is cooling and will be cut tomorrow. Funny how much liquid is created in that machine. Downside of the electric is that it basically bakes the food, while the woodchips smoulder and smoke the food. All the flavor but none of the red ring associated with normally smoked meats.

Mine is a Masterbuilt, 4 shelf unit. A halfway decent unit, but way underutilized.

Thanks for the indepth explanation. I didn't realise names represent type of service. This is the style i was reffering to, i understand it's been long out of service:

Well, there went the evening. I had just gotten into the pool (water is 86° this evening) when the cloudiness turned to dark cloudiness. There is rumbling from the NE and SE, while the darkest clouds were in the NW. Radar shows thunderstorms all over the place except here. The dip in the pool was OK though, after spending almost three hours picking tomatoes this afternoon. I planted 40% less plants than last year, yet I am getting at least 40% more tomatoes. It won't last as there are very few green ones left.
My kitchen table is full.

I have had to move over to the countertop.
IMG_3749.JPG

This is after the 5 pints of salsa the other day, and a bag of about 7 lbs. that I gave to the neighbor this afternoon.
Many of them are growing in clusters of 5-6 tomatoes each.

Then there are the Cherry Tomatoes.
IMG_3746.JPG

Almost all of those pictured in the house ripened since Wednesday, it's a special gift to my wife when she returns tomorrow. Many will be given to my two daughters, while their mom is exchanged for the granddogs. Right now, only about 35% are ready for processing which will commence tomorrow. I am only limited by the number of jars that fit in the pressure canner at one time, 7 quarts or 9 pints.
Anyone need some fresh vine-ripened organic tomatoes???
