Hello all. Not sure how many airliner fans we have here, but i like large airplanes. Some of my favorites are Concorde which i was able to see coming in on approach lane toward JFK. Ofcourse the "Queen of the skyes"-Boeing 747 is right up there with the most beautifull aircraft ever designed. But on this date in 1989 a horrific crash happened in Siux City, Iowa with some of most amazing flying ever done in almost hopeless situation-United flight 232:

I watch Mentour Pilot videos all the time as well as 74 Gear sometimes. I'm not a pilot but have always been attracted to the planes since I was a kid. Especially military planes, but also commercial. Thanks for the pointer.

Sort of freaks ya out, eh? I also feel skizzie at the thought of Cataract surgery, which is coming sooner rather than later. Not for nothin, the Heart surgery didn't make me as nervous as the thought of someone/something touching my eyes.
Yeah. I think it is a universal feeling. I did bite the bullet and get my eyes lasered about 13 or 14 years ago. Best thing I ever did but it was werid for them to do it with you lying awake in the machine. Most ucky thing.

Those are nothing! I hear that an Alaskan skeeter landed at JB Elmendorf one night, and they filled it full of 10,000 gallons of JP-5 before they figured out it wasn't an F-35!
We laugh, but I've heard stories that when they were building the Alaskan Canada highway thing they actually used anti aircraft guns for mosquito control. Don't know the truth of it but the place I read it was not the sort of place that was full of jokes and kidding. It was an actual history book.
Of course, they could have been pulling one. I don't think the AA was firing full loads but probably the blast effects out of the muzzles?

Awesome, first one Vulcan bomber i believe? Second has to be Tornado fighter. I have never seen either one in person.

The Tornado (& Vulcan) are at the Air & Transport Museum in Sunderland, U.K..

The first time I sawthe Tornado it was languishing at the rear of a hangar.
On a further visit she was out in the open. Hence an instant photograph, before she is put away again.

Younger granddaughter loves the other exhibits.

Morning - gonna be short post at this time. Too much life is in the way - just one speed bump after another!
Read 4 pages of posts this morning, wanted to comment on several, but don't want to take the time now to do it?
Major concern is that I get to spend today checking all the various places that have payments auto deducted and CC payments that I have each month.
I received a letter from the bank that bought out my previous bank last November (or so) stating that after a period of time - no date given- that they would no longer honor the routing number from the old bank! I thought that I had changed all of the accounts, but it appears that I overlooked a few? Mainly, to start, is the deposit of my pension check each month which comes from the PBGC (government) as Carl Icahn reneged on the fund and "dumped" it on the Government which promptly wiped out 40% of my payment - thank you very much.
Now, if I didn't have enough on my plate - I could not log on to the PBGC website, so after spending 45 minutes to talk to someone and get logged in which required verification photos of documents and then learning - after logging in - that I had to have a form mailed to me for any changes.
I called the HELP number again and got through after only 20 minutes this time. I explained my predicament to the nice Indian lady (who I had a terrible time trying to understand) and she explained that I could not change my directive without the USPS mailing. I asked her how long that would take and her response was 7-10 days.
I asked: Once you receive the form back - how long will it take for the changes to be effective?
She replied: 45 to 60 days!
This is not a joke! OUR Government is alive and well!

I will be applying for employment at McDonald's this afternoon.

Here's the poop for today:
The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for all inland valleys of Southern California, as well as the mountains and deserts, through 8 PM Saturday as a high pressure ridge over Arizona and New Mexico expands westward.

High temperatures in the valleys have been nearing or exceeding 100 degrees in recent days, and is forecast to escalate even higher Thursday through Saturday.
? Obviously you have not read the news over here!
DAVID - Looking at little miss Shelby there with her nose ring - I can see where someone might think she is a pig, or cow and be turned on by that - LOL

Oh yes, i watch Mentour pilot myself, although i somewhat disagree with his analysis of the Air France Concorde crash in 2000. Much better picture is presented by an actual Concorde pilot from British Airways-Mr. John Hutchison:

I had Lasik surgery in 2004, and have not needed glasses (except readers) since. I was 30 years old, so the doctor left each eye a little near sighted so as I aged, it would delay the need for readers.

I usually read in bed for a half hour or so before I go to sleep, and it took me a good 6 months after the laser surgery to finally NOT try to take off my glasses when done reading... or reaching for my glasses in the middle of the night just to be able to read the clock if I woke up.

Good late morning. I said good bye to the brother and a bit later to the son this morning. Then I went out and TRIED to trim the lawns. The cap on the string portion was gone, no problem, I have a spare. I might have a spare but couldn’t find it. Went back out to cut and got the back done. Headed to a very frustrating place called HomeDepot. 3 of the Associates walked by me twice each in the Ryobi parts area. Finally someone asked if they could help and took me 3 aisles away to general parts for string trimmers, where we found the cap that should be in the Ryobi trimmer aisle with all its other parts. Heck, while in HD went for a walk around, boy I could go broke in there. The cap was$5 used to be 3, purchased 2 and found enough other unneeded stuff to check out at $53.00

Returned home and finished cutting the side yard and front. This evening I will put the trimmer back together and trim around the garden area while in the shade. I need a shower then I will swim my laps and then have lunch. I figure a nap will be needed and then into the train room and the weathering bench. I need to organize and prioritize what is happening there. I have not been to the new house since Sunday and checked out my new spaces there, but I know the daughter and her friend had been spending time in there. Maybe later today.

The AQ is at 101 and climbing, so that’s why I finished the cutting before the trimming. This smoke haze crap really sucks. Terry went to the pharmacy this morning for another inhaler, she has reached the donut hole for the first time. Both of us are now swimming in the hole…

My medical team, the GP, Endocrinologist and physical therapist all believe that if you are comfortable in a range of weight that’s ok. They set target goals and that’s what I strive for. No way could I be at 160 pounds like I was at high school graduation. I’d never eat anything but lettuce…
Tom: Prior to my recent medical adventures, I would get lectures every doctor's visit, with my primary, because I was borderline obese. That was with a weight of 186. Guess it depends on the doctor. I was concerned about the level of weight loss, but was told how well I was doing, totally ignoring that the weight loss was NOT intentional.

Not for nothing, but when one gains 20 lbs in three months for no apparent reason, then lose that, and drop an additional 40 lbs in the next seven months only by watching sodium intake, isn't normal. But WTF, the BMI is in Normal range...that's good the CDC said so.
