Afternoon all,

Ok, started the first bit. Baby sucker is a bit intense as pointed out above. But I think I can deal with it.

Waiting for the glue solution to dry. Then I'll clean it up. I ran about 3' but only glued in about 1'. Cleaned any residual ballast with the dental pick. I do think it looks better.
Patrick the way I do blast is I tape off the top of the container except one hole. Pour the ballast on the center of the track. With a soft flat (makeup type brush) just a little wider than the rails. I work the ballast down the track so it flows into the ties on both sides. I then tap on the rails with a wood dowel to settle the ballast into the ties. Before gluing you need to spray the ballast with water with a couple of drops of dish soap. This breaks the surface tension so the water glue mixture will soak into the ballast without making it run all over. The best bottle is a hair spray pump type bottle that sprays a mist. You just want to dampen the ballast. Then I let the water glue mix drip out of the Elmer's bottle and let it soak in.

Tom that looks great

I just had a fantastic dinner!
My wife made fresh kale steamed to perfection. Meatballs in mushroom gravy and a side order of perfectly fried onions.
It's official, I'm fat and happy!

How about the 2022 MLB Hall of Fame inductees? Hard to believe these guys were not already in the Hall. Better late...
Louis- I’m just glad that Joan was alive yet when Gil finally got inducted into Cooperstown. He led the majors in so many categories for the decade of the 1950’s- just didn’t win any individual titles in a single season, so he was often overlooked. I was pretty sure that his daughter Irene would give his induction speech, as Gil Jr & sister Cindy were in LA when the Dodgers had the ceremony for retiring his number 14. I’m so glad that the team didn’t assign his number last year, after Kíke Hernández signed Boston as a free agent in 2021.
Sherril- those are the “City Connect” unis that every team wears on occasion(maybe a half dozen or so games). Boston’s are made to resemble a Boston Marathon bib.

Sherrel, first of all, moving sucks! I hope you get to stay put.
All professional sports teams use alternate uniforms. It's a good way to sell more merchandise.

Mike, Hodges also managed the 1969 Mets!

Jim Kaat maybe the most surprising to me. His 16 gold gloves as a pitcher will never be matched!
What took so long!? Defense is so under rated.

OK, enough of the interference. I'm gonna hit the road this Thursday and won't be back till late August. Way too many things have been nibbling away at my time, keeping me in town all summer. Everything is going to have to wait till I get back. Got the Goldwing so I could do some serious riding but can't do that with so many things needing me here.
Gotta change the front tire on it today and start getting the items in order that I'll take along.
I'll start with a visit to the Detroit area for next weekend to meet some family and friends I haven't seen since Feb I think it was. From there, I'm just pointing west to the Mississippi, crossing at Burlington, IA then meander from there till I'm in Clarkdale, AZ. The only real schedule part of this trip will to be in Cornville, AZ on 13 August to participate in the Op Session on the Wyoming Division Model Railroad.
I'll prolly do some rail fanning along the way. Wyoming has the UP with Green River having convenient lodging near the tracks. Ogden, UT has always been a lure to me so I just might ride through there to watch trains.
Gotta get things going here today before it gets too warm in the garage.

Good morning all! 71 headed for 80 with a heat index of 88 later today. I'll take that after the unbearable heat we've been having. Had strong storms blow through last night dumping heavy rain on us. They knocked our power out for a couple hours as well.

Got a brand new eye problem going on. I noticed the area under my right eye was sore starting Saturday evening. Got up yesterday and noticed the bottom eyelid was swollen and dark.Seemed like it got a little better during the day but never stopped bothering me. This morning it's really swollen and sore again. Not sure why I keep having eye issues lately but I'm ready for it to stop.

Off to work soon. Hope you all have a great day!

Morning all,

74° and cloudy with some spotty rain in the area. Supposed to get to 100° today, but that will depend on the clouds.

Got the new office computer, but it's getting reworked before I get it on my desk. Currently sits with Windows 10 and MSOffice, but nothing else. It will be the one we actually test the install packages of the current software against. My current computer had everything installed before I upgraded to Windows 11. I don't anticipate any problems. The techs left most of the software to me as I have other software to be installed, and since I'm the senior IT employee (I had a hand in hiring the rest of the department), they are happy to not do the machine.

Wife qualified for a $2500 bonus from the State of Kansas for child care workers. It's meant to reward the underpaid and much needed childcare providers in the state. Already paln to put it on the house. While taxable, it will only reduce the amount we'll get back in the spring, and I'd rather apply the full amount to the principal of the house now rather than the few dollars later. Looking more and more like we'll have a 15 year note paid off in 10.

Ken (D&J): Have a fun trip and stay safe.

OTBC: Get that eye looked at. IT work is hard to do blind....

Good morning everyone,
Quiet morning back at home, another lunch out on Wednesday coming. Breakfast this morning is homemade fruit and nut bread from an old general store yesterday toasted with peanut butter. Coffee goes with out saying. Noticed that my young fellow and his buddies were running my trains on the weekend, awesome!
I hope you all have a great day!

Gary - That fruit and nut bread sounds good! My wife makes something like that, usually winter

Good morning all - woke up to 48° and sunny, headed for low 70's

Ken DJ - Sounds like a great trip you are planning!

Jeff - too bad about the knee. At least the pooch is comfy!

Spent a lot of the weekend working on the old Casey Jones locomotive. It really smoothed out, am getting a slow speed out of it, still a ways to go. Made a video will post later on.

Also got around to cutting off a couple large dead branches off one of our big oak trees. Was up on an extension ladder with the chainsaw, super dangerous, however no accidents and the trees look great, also the branches have been dead for years so firewood is Deluxe!

Beth got her first ripe tomatoes. Willies garden puts this to shame, however it is all my wife can handle, she makes up for it with the flowers and cooking:

Thats a black raspberry patch in the background, yeilded tons of fruits last summer. Not sure about this year. We did pick 8 oz of wild blueberries Saturday, blueberry pancakes for brunch Sunday.

Here is a shot from the railroad

IMG_2412.JPG

The caboose is a kit with lots of fussy details. Before the day was done, I had to do some repair work. It was in a box for 2+ years, stored in our shipping container. It could have been way worse!

more later, Dave LASM

Good Morning All. Looks like clear and 81° to get going today. Another heat advisory as it will probably reach 103° this afternoon. Despite all of the publicity that this heat wave is getting, it still has not been as bad as the ones in 2011 and 1980. The NWS has been pretty steady regarding the break in the weather this upcoming weekend, but for three days only! The rain that was originally in the forecast and then removed, has been added back in! o_O

Daughter and granddaughter made it up to retrieve their doggies after a week in Kalifornia. All quiet now as the remaining granddog does not bark unless necessary, Amazon, UPS, etc.

Thanks for the likes yesterday on the abbreviated morning post; Hughie, Rick, Louis, Tom O, Smudge, Sherrel, Patrick, Gary, Chad, Tom, Guy, OB Ken.

I made it back out to the train shed yesterday. This part of the project is to rehab a structure that came from the old layout 12 years ago and needed severe rework. This is a Smalltown structure known as Furniture Showroom. I still don't know how I will use it, I have to look at my signs and interiors before deciding.
I forgot to take a before picture, but it has been in open storage for an extended period of time. First up was cleaning the dust off the roof.
IMG_1351.JPG
IMG_1354.JPG

Then fixing the curled and shrunken edges of the rolled roofing. Before.
IMG_1355.JPG

Rather than redo the whole roof, I added to the edge to resemble a patch job.
IMG_1356.JPG

All of the clear styrene had come off the windows, so all of that needed sanding and replacing.
IMG_1353.JPG
IMG_1357.JPG

I then added the sidewalks made from Evergreen sheet sidewalks. I used the 1/2" sidewalk for these.
IMG_1359.JPG

Next step is to paint them. Them add roof details.

Tom O - The weather folks here had a batting average of below .125 until June/July when they upped their average with "hot and dry" forecast every day! It did unexpectedly rain on July 3 which blew their streak. Love the rain gauge.
Kadee washers - I sure don't use as many as I used to 20 years ago, but still have a stockpile and use them occasionally.
"Needed preventative procedure" pisses me off. The stent that I had put in, kinda fell into that category. Doctor admitted after the fact that the blockage was so minimal that I could have waited another five years. I had it on his recommendation! I had a CT scan done a few years ago that led to a vascular surgeon ask why I did it in the first place. Because my PCP ordered it and then sent me to him!
Sherrel - The elevator sounds like a good idea. Not as good as MIL's place,, but still a good idea.
Even though I am also not a baseball fan, since my dad disliked the Dodgers for leaving Brooklyn, so did I.
Ken (D&J) - Have a safe trip whenever you start.
Patrick - Congratulations to your wife on the bonus. Smart to pay down the mortgage principle.

Everyone have an awesome day.

Good morning, folks!

We had a wee bit of rain overnight, and it looks like we'll be getting some more today. That's a good thing; I'm a cooler weather species.

Tom - I appreciated the tutorial on ballasting you wrote up this morning. Thank-you!
JeffH - Nice looking pooch! Tough luck on the leg pains. Hope it don't affect the bus driving job.
Ken - Be safe on the motorcycle trip. If you come a-lot more west, you might meet up with my Harley driving brother. He's got one leg 2" shorter than the other, due to a motorcycle accident on such a trip. - He's touring in the Oregon area as we speak.
Ken in Illinois - Sorry to hear you're having so many health issues. Seems to me, you're still a young man. Gotta look after yourself.
Gary - Glad you had an excellent camp-out weekend. I haven't heard anyone pipe-up about the Canadian caboose question. I was hoping to hear an answer to that question myself.

If it's going to rain today, I'll work on the last oil dealership building that need attention before I can proceed with groundwork and detailing. The pump house requires some hoses and pipes to be attached, or it can't fill the truck with heating oil:
OilDeal_07-25-2022.JPG

This layout is going to take a loong time to build; I can see that.
I would like to build about four more structures before I get serious about putting down ground cover. It seems to me, it's a good idea to have enough structures available where one knows what the town is going to look like.
Plus, I need to know where the roads are going to go. And I need to research how I'm going to build the roads. The sandpaper idea don't work for me, so I'll need to come up with another idea. Mainstreet will be pavement, and all the rest will be gravel roads.
There's also lots of sidewalk to worry about.
I feel like I'm going to be an old, old man before I get this layout finished. If I ever do.

I'm thinking this will be the next structure I build. Another Walthers kit:
Motel_07-25-2022.JPG

Up here, when you enter into a small town, the motel is the first building you pass. Then the local gas station before hitting main street.

I actually wasn't going to post this morning, because I didn't have any photos. So, I whipped those two up in a hurry.

DaveB - Nice looking garden, but, I gotta tell ya, the bird-bath is upside down. Won't work that way.
Willie - Good on you to revamp old models. Frankly, I despise doing that, and usually give my old damaged models to the grandkids or chuck them. But, I'm new in layouts, and all the old models I have are other scale planes and tanks. I don't seem interested in those anymore.

I got carried away with the yap today. I'd better get doing something else.

Have a great day!

Good morning from cool So Central Wisconsin. 60f/15.5c out there heading only to an afternoon high of 77/25 which for the past 3 mornings was the wake time temperature. The sky is beautiful with the wispy clouds of an artist!

Ken, I am not a motorcycle guy but my brother is. Cross country trips the way he told about them just seemEd so free. Be safe and have fun. Say hi to Verryl Fosnight and to Allen Mongotmery when you get to the op session in Cornville, Az but it’s been a few years since I have been there. Great layout.

Troy, are you relaxing between books or researching? I mentioned previously I have a best friend from grade school who is is a best selling author who never sits still. She says she has to write every day or is researching for the next book. Says it’s part of her make up as she feels if she takes time off she may lose everything. Set for the balance of her life and the partner’s but do what you have to do. She is a bit nuts also but we still love each other. Her partner doesn’t really like me but I neither the friend or I care. It’s been that way for 30 years.

Ken in Illinois, Terry has eye issues where her eyes dry out and eye drops are not helpful. They added a 90 day wiper to the lower eye lid, took 10 seconds for each eye. Her doctor says dry eye are more prone to get eye infections. Maybe time for another doctor visit with your eyes. Hope they get better as eye issues are irritating both to the victim and the partner. Glad school and the job are working well for you

Patrick, have fun with the new computer. I remember for years Terry paying extra every month when we had on the first house mortgage. All bonuses were put to it. We had a heck of a party when it was paid off about 7 years early on a 15 year loan.

gary, that sounds like a great breakfast

Louis, Jim Kaat should have been in years ago. Same with Minni Monoso and I thought Tony O was already in. Not sure about David Ortiz, too many steroid questions unanswered about him. The numbers beyond the homers doesn’t tell ME he should be in on the 1st ballot. Since he is in so should Bond and Clemens be there. But, like everything, since he was a good guy to the reporters… Both Bonds and Clemens were certified jerks

Dave, great caboose and nice garden

JeffH, well at least one of you were comfortable last night

Willie, as soon as I press reply you will show up. Been loving the pictures and in the Texas heat I can’t believe you are still getting tomatoes

The son texted, this time his hot water heater went out. He went to You Tube and fixed it and took a warm shower. Last night he texted that it died again with a sensor warning. He was going to call the contractor this morning as the house is less then 6 months old. It just amazes me how poor so many of our appliances have become. QC in the production plants is obviously way down. His outdoor rinse shower for the pool he said produces better hot water via the exposed tubing heating the water then his gas heater does.

I spent sometime yesterday weathering 3 new pieces of rolling stock. I am documenting it in the weathering forum under Weathering Rolling stock a Continous thread if anyone is interested

I am going to cut some slightly green stuff that is turning brown. Just to even it out.

Terry is out in the stables. Tomorrow is the day before the Eagle lands for us (social security money) which means tomorrow is her Tuesday to host the Animal Rescue (horses) ride. Her crew doesn’t need her to organize things anymore as it goes off like clock work but the tent wasn’t here over the weekend so she was nervous last night.

Just a bit of retail therapy last night. I purchased just one of the many sound decoders I need to swap out from the ESU decoders I was using.
Enjoy the day

Morning, Gentlemen and Ladies! Looking at a possible high of only 89 degrees for today with (again) mostly sunny.

The Spousal Unit is determined on her quest of a single story house. OK, If that is what she wants to spend her inheritance on - so be it!
I told her yesterday: No Sex - No House; she replied, "I want it in writing"!

I was looking at a photo album from her mom's yesterday and came upon this photo of the Mrs. when she was a junior in HS. She still looks this way to me today! I know, I know ... this an't FB, but she is just as pretty as a big old SD70MAC ... well, almost anyway!

Thanks, FLO, but I cannot have any coffee or other colored liquid this morning - and it hurts! I have a CT Scan in about 4 hours where they inject the dye ordered by the vascular guys who patched the several aneurysms a few years back. They want to check that the "boots" are still intact.

LASM - Nice photo of the berry patch - I can't post pic like that - everything is a brownish color, but they call it the "Golden State"!
Really like that caboose shot too!

Patrick - That's a great accomplishment on the house loan - I envy you on those goals - I will never accomplish such.

MICKY The O scale houses look great!

CURT - Really like the night scenes - bravo!

TO ALL who commented on the BB uniforms: From my perspective (not that anyone cares) they can keep them - didn't care for them in the NFL neither!

OK, Back to your regular programing!

Sherrel, geez she married you! Congrats!

Agree on the uniforms, as mentioned before…another way for them to gouge the fan

CT scan, I hate those things but best results for you
