Good morning Everybody!

I slept like a baby again last night.

No work for us this morning. My wife has a cancer screening this morning.

My old beagle Tucker and I are relaxing on the couch. I'm watching Star Trek Discovery streaming on Paramount. Tucker is next to me sleeping.

Have a great day Everybody!

Well, howdy there internet peoples

It's troy again

I did it! I think I need a donut!

6367 words worded yesterday
56,411 total in the book

marocchino.jpg

Beverage of Celebration is a Marocchino (Alba Style)

Seems that the word Marocchino in Italian is "Moroccan" and used for the dark brown Morrocan leather color. And for a chocolately color. The Italians, being the chief purveyors of all things espresso discovered what we in the English world call a Mocha Latte (or any variation of chocolate in espresso.

But, if you go to the city of Alba, an enterprising salesman back around WWII needed to sell more of his firm's product. He came up with using Nutella instead of cocoa in the Marocchino.

So I spent some coffee beans dialing in my espresso maker, and added a spoonful of Nutella, and a shot of caramel syrup, because that's just the way I roll. ;)

I also found this meme appropriate:

The Dragon of Demanding Donuts was an especially tough opponent, as was the pixie of power outage, but I prevailed.

Now to go in and fix all of my typos.

Probably the worst is when they get to the register and stack all the stuff on the counter then wait for the cashier to tell them the total. Then they get coupons out, wait for a new total then start to write the check -or- futz around in wallet looking for debit card. I have even seen some tell the cashier after the total that this item, another or these need to be on a separate receipt as those are for the neighbor. And they let these people drive on the roads.

Good morning from the Cheesehead nation of fog. I’d say I can’t even see my neighbors but on a clear day I can‘t see them a 1/2 mile away. It is soupy out there.

I am not exactly sure what my nothing planned for today will look like. The daughter and family are at their place in Door County, Wisconsin. I miss the grandkids, not so much their parents. The wife and her crew of 4 are starting the trek home from Paradise with a stop in Pasadena to pick up my sister and then a stop in Phoenix to drop off the brother. Late night arrival into Middleton and one of the other hubbies is playing chauffeur. The son is here at least until Monday but maybe he’ll stay for a bit more to visit with his mom. With the 100f degree + temperatures in Austin he is in no hurry. His friend who is staying at his house says the pool temperature hit 90 yesterday. My pool is at 78 this morning.

I spray painted yesterday 100 sets of Walthers Proto 36” steel wheels and 24 sets of the 32” from Intermountain. This was the base coat of Tamiya Hull red with a touch of black added. There will be a coat of Vallejo rust added before installing back into the trucks. Finally when assembled I will brush on the whole assembly some Pan Pastels. The consuming part for me is the first coat and that is complete so I am happy.

The son could not after a valiant try save my sound system. I need a new tuner/amplifier. The speakers are fine and actually he said as good or better after 41 years (taped to the back of a speaker was the packing list of components, 12/1980) then most current speakers. He offered to take the turntable with him back to Texas since I only have a few vinyl albums. I said no.

enjoy the day

We found out I have some additions to our family.

New son-in-law as of 5/25 and another grandson arriving in January!

My youngest daughter got married in the Harford co., Maryland court house on May 25th. She was hesitant to tell me for fear of how I would react. Im not "psycho big Lou" any more, he has been MIA since I was 22. Except for a few rare unconfirmed sightings. My kids never knew him.
I don't have to live with the guy. If she is happy, I'm happy. If she loves him, I will too.
I know he can't hurt her physically, she knocked him flat on his back once before. I have no doubt she can do it again. She learned from daddy, go for the nose and try to punch through the head. 😁
I only wish my girls would carry a roll of dimes as I recommend. I keep a roll of quarters in my cars, but my girls have little hands.

Now all three of our are children are married and financially set, thank God!

This old street rat must have done something right! Only by the Grace and forgiveness of God. That was why I loved the name of my first daughter, Grace. I needed the Grace of God in my life.

Good morning gang!

Typing this morning from work, 8 a.m. and no customers yet. Honestly I don't know why we open on Saturdays, with a half a dozen appointments for 2 mechanics. I got here at 6:30 just to wash and detail my truck, and will stay here til 2. Lots of Youtube in my immediate future.

Right now it is 69° and foggy, expected high of 83° and hoooooomid. You stick to everything, yech

Palm strike. Aim for the chin, and you will make good contact no matter if he ducks or pulls away. Then, quick strick to the side of the base of the neck with the blade of your hand. That will knock him out 90+% of the time.

Jeff, thank you, but 'm too old for new tricks. The nose has never failed me. I've used it more than I like to remember and 95% of the time there is no need for a follow up. I only carry the quarters in case I'm out numbered. A proven way to even the odds.

So far my daughters are one for one. I hope they never have to try again.

In a tough fight the most important factor is, who can or is willing to take the most punishment and keep battling.

To be honest at this stage in my life I have not the quickness or stamina needed. I'm banking on my size 6'8", 265lbs and my experience in knowing how and what to say. If it gets past that, I could be in trouble if a follow up is needed.

Quarters are devastating and no law against carrying change for "parking".

Thank God I can still stand straight up, for a few minutes at least.

Morning all,

Got the front mowed before rain moved in. Popup shower, just enough to raise the humidity later today, where we're expecting a high of 102° heat index of 108°. Sunday and Monday temps cooler at 98° then the desert shows up with temps to 105°+ the remainder of the week.
Going to see if I get some time to go see the new train store.

My mind thinks I'm 25, my body thinks I'm an idiot.

Speaking of quarter rolls...
I remember a movie in which one of the protagonists asked the other to buy a roll of quarters, and bring it to him. The guy proceeds to get into an altercation, grabs the coin roll from his friend, and uses it when punching one of the antagonists. The bad guy goes down, and the main protagonist is screaming in pain. Upon looking at the coin roll, he discovers it was a roll of nickels. His friend's response: "They were cheaper".
What movie was that? I can't remember, it's been a long time since I saw it.

Good Morning!

It's supposed to get to 75F today, which is way to hot for this 60ish loving man. Oh well, I'll hide in the cool basement and work on the layout.

I wish it was back to the good-ol-days, when you could get a tire fixed or the car tuned at the local gas station while you were having a burger in the restaurant. There were a-lot of gas stations that looked like this, back then:
Esso_WtCrt.jpg

It's getting to the time now, where all filling stations will look like this:
JasperCharge_07-11-2022.JPG

I took that photo a few days ago in Jasper. Don't know how long those cars will need to be plugged in before they are charged, but, I can see it's not going to be fun getting a fill-up.
The last time I took the pick-up into a dealership and asked for a tune-up, they thought I was talking alien. They don't know what 'tune-up' means. There's a unit cost for every thing they do on a vehicle these days. The world of convenient and reliable personal transportation is going to crap.

I'm just in for a coffee; I feel like doing something today, so I intend to do further work on the finer details of the oil dealership.
Yesterday, I collected and sifted 2qts of sand. Also, I want to design a workable, steady swing gate for the layout entrance.

Thank you, for the likes on my Jasper photos.
Here's another couple. I believe these covered hoppers are carrying grain to the ports in Vancouver. One brand-new, and one old and weathered.

Anyway, I gotta go. Make myself useful with something on this fine Saturday morning.

A late Good Morning All. Clear and 78°, somewhat warmer than yesterday. Despite the triple-digit prediction, it only got to 98° yesterday, second day in a row not to reach 100°. But the weather geeks are obviously on vacation and have the same repetitive forecast for the next ten days. Got up at my usual time his morning, but went back to lie down at 6:00 and slept until 7:45! Now I am behind on my day.

I spent most of the day yesterday on gardening and household stuff. Usually by this time in the summer, the garden gives up due to the heat. But not this year! Tomatoes, squash, and bell peppers are flourishing. Grasshoppers however, have decimated the beans and Jalapeno peppers. Nothing else planted. Yesterday I canned more tomatoes. This time as plain tomato sauce which is easiest. Just pureed tomatoes and salt. I also stacked a wagon load of firewood that I have been cutting.

I win the lottery every time. It's the dollar that I don't spend!

Thanks for the likes and comments regarding yesterday's post; Dave B, Guy, Smudge, Sherrel, Tom O, James, Patrick, Chad, Louis, Karl, Hughie, Curt, Joe, Rick, Gary, OB Ken, Tom.

Yesterday out in the train shed, I removed structures and vacuumed up the part of the layout that I pictured yesterday. I realized that I had installed lighting in more structures than I had thought, although none were connected to the power buss yet. Just another thing on the project list for now. No pictures yet until I get a little more done.
Here is a view in the other direction from the one posted yesterday.

Pay no attention to the disarray. I intend to include the area up to the industry siding crossing the road in this project.

A longer shot with the cream colored business in the upper right. One of the first things will be to remove more stuff and paint the backdrop.

Dave B - Thank you. Murphy visits me every once in a while. And it's usually for the whole day as experienced Thursday. Those are the days if I am working on the layout or an outdoor project that I usually just step back and return later. Thursday just didn't present that opportunity.
Tom O - Losing music in the train room is a great tragedy indeed. I use the old fashioned iPod with a docking station as well.
Mikey - I went to court one day in the early 80's and there were about 40 other persons there, all charged with the same minor offense - not related to each other. The judge started by saying that he would hear all of the cases, one by one, initially the ones in which the defendant brought their own lawyer. He would then go to the cases where a public defender was used, finally to those representing themselves like me. I was pleading no contest.
I watched as he went through the expensive lawyer cases and if they pleaded guilty or no contest, the sentence was the same for all of them; $500 and time served. Then the cases with the public defender went down the same except the sentence was $250 and time served. Finally the last group representing themselves and the sentence was $100 and time served. A lawyer acquaintance had previously given me the advice to plead that way without a lawyer. He was there representing several others who thought that they might get a better deal with him present. Anyone contesting the charges had to schedule another court appearance for later and also pay a court cost for their visit that day, which I believe was $47.50.
Outhouses and sheds look good.

Everybody have an awesome Saturday. Come join us Karl when you are released.

Sheesh.
After two and a half months from my wife passing, I decided to list her powered recliner and mobility scooter on Fecesbook and the list of craig.
In the first 30 minutes, I got 12 responses. Every one of them wanting me to read back a code to them, "to prove I'm not a scammer". All that proved is they were scammers. Reading that code back to them gives them control over my phone number, and locks me out of it.
Rather than do that, I guess I'll just take both of those items and park them by the road, and let the junk man have them.

You can't be too careful anymore. Putting an ad in the internet invites any old crook to talk to you and eventually come to your house. Of they want to meet you someplace remote they may just take what you have and your vehicle and leave you on the side of the road dead or alive. Good to have a few people around when you meet people for something like this.

I would say you are showing your age, but I still have my timing light and dwell meters needed when tune ups were done on cars with points and condensers. I've got experienced line techs working with me who are younger than some of my tools!

Its a whole different world out there from the good old days of oil changes every 2-3000 miles and spark plugs and filters every 10,000 miles. Modern ICE cars go 100,000 on plugs, 7-10k on oil changes and 45K on filters. Thank goodness for that. Most cars take 1-2 hours to just replace plugs at 150-200 bucks an hour. I would (as a consumer) rather do that every 100K than every 10K.

When electric cars get serviced its mainly just for cabin air filters, tire rotations, brakes and wiper blades, oh and the occasional trim or accessory issue. I hope I am retired by then.
