Greetings from 1 mile West of Highway 9. 72° and cloudy right now, went to 91° today. I wasted a good part of the afternoon, watching the NHL Free agent Frenzy on TV. Been a little crabby ever since...mainly, because I could have done something useful instead. Speaking of Sports, Mets won, Washington Lost, Phillies Lost, and the Orioles are holding on to a 4-1 lead over the Cubbies in the 6th. Meanwhile, Johnny Hockey took less money to spend the next seven years playing for Columbus....Yeah, in Ohio, that Columbus...he said he wanted to be closer to home...:rolleyes:o_O WTF.

Meanwhile, back in my world...now, the eyes are bothering me. Not quite three months since my eye exam, i have developed a somewhat permanent floater in my right eye. Mostly distracting now that mt eyes are compensating for it, but I've been getting these with increased frequency over the last two years, and have complained. Yet the answer was NFW. I think it's time to change practitioners, as this practice, has stopped dilating, and raised the price of refraction...

Nothing new or exciting going on right now...got to get ready for visitors sometime next week...

Wall Street is not ready to bottom, just yet...even with the earnings reports from the big banks.

Good morning everyone! Back hard at work despite the chronic cough and breathing often being a hassle….but what the heck, love what I do and my friends there. Here is a layout related post for me.

Had some free time on and off over the last few weeks so using cut and paste to do a wall of my train station template until I build a real one (eventually). My scale is off for shore. Mainly cut and paste from similar structures in Halifax, but I think I am getting close. It is probably about 3/4 inch wider than the 50 feet so I have to adjust and my windows might be to big as well. Getting close I think though. Just a better background then plain wood I think. Thoughts ? This is the side wall.

Good morning gang!

Currently it is clear and 67° heading for a high temp of 88°.
No modeling last night, Tuesday nights storms deposited lots of branches in the yard that needed picking up. I still have a few more to cut up being branches in the 6 to 8 inch diameter size but most of the little stuff is stacked high on the trailer. Looks like another dump run in my future. That will be done tonight.
Looks like a rainy weekend coming, good modeling weather.

Good morning all! 64 degrees heading for 85 with a slight chance of rain.

Been a very busy week at work. Good, but busy. We finished running all that network cable we started Tuesday and I tested them all yesterday. All of them worked right the first time, so now they ready for use. We have some more to run but I think there's a pretty good chance I'll wait till next week to do that. Contractors ran a bunch of new cable in another building on campus and I have to go get them all terminated and tested. May start that job today, but not sure yet. There's another event going on campus and they've needed me a few times so I hate to stray off the main campus and go up north to do that other work. I've really enjoyed doing all this work and have learned a lot.

TomO: Your flying trip sounds like a lot of fun!

Hope you all have a great day!

Morning all,

72° and clear this morning. Hot later with a high of 100°.

Got in and already cleared 3 cases from the overnight shift. Fortunately all minor. No migraine today, but still have what I call a migraine hangover, at least if I turn to quickly or bend over.

Big project completed, finally!!! 2FA works and is ready for roll-out. That's up to the "kids" to get completed. I know I'm goig to get in trouble from HR, but they are all younger than my kids, except my supervisor who is a year older than my 3. We were married almost 4 years before we had the kids, so he could be one of mine anyway. The 2 techs are in their mid-late 20's, kids! 🤣

Looks pretty close to me, where is it ?

1st day of work during my vacation, so exciting I could easily go back to sleep, (not while driving, obviously).
Been here 3 1/2hrs, got 3 1/2 to go, then head back to my yard, all this, and no one turned up, so empty both ways, ah well, least I'm getting paid.
Excuse me, off to have a nap for an hour, or three. :)

Good Morning All. Clear and 77°, headed up to 103° again today. For some reason, there's a 15% chance of precipitation around noon today, but otherwise no change in the forecast right now. Next week is predicted to be a few degrees warmer than this week. The usual heat advisory has been extended north to include our county now. It's so warm in my barn that the Vultures that live there have temporarily moved their sleeping quarters.
IMG_1316.JPG

Note our simple power line arrangement! The vultures will be down in a couple of minutes as I tossed another meal in their direction a few minutes ago.

Must be Thursday as the fridge is empty, time for the weekly grocery/beer trek into the big city. I need to check a few other places for liquid chlorine for the pool while I am there.
Good day yesterday as I mowed some around the house and cut down another dead tree in the morning. Small one this time; only about a half week's worth of heating firewood. For supper, I grilled veggies and a pound of shrimp. My wife marinated them in a cilantro/lime marinade - AFTER I peeled and de-veined them. It's called de-vein, but it's really disembowel!

Thanks for all of the comments and reactions yesterday regarding Magees Tire; Steve J, Patrick, Hughie, James, Karl, Smudge, Dave B, Mikey, Curt, Chad, Tom, Joe, Sherrel, Guy, Louis, OB Ken.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I started cleaning structures in the big city of Ft Wish.
IMG_6586.JPG

I am going to do some work here finishing up some of the scenery next. The initial spot is to add the road between two recent additions to the city.

IMG_1304.JPG

Structure on the right was built and installed last fall(?), while the one on the left is from the last layout. I need to tidy up the area before adding the dead end street. As you can see, I had some solvent glue seepage on the tall structure to the right that I need to disguise. The plan is to do it with weathering powders, unless I find a match for the paint which is unlikely.
Before I do anything I am finally going to install a 4' LED light fixture under the upper deck here. I have had the fixture for a couple of years now, just waiting for the urge to remove stuff and install it.

Tom O - It seems like a great flight plan that you had worked out yesterday. Hope that it was successful.
Gary - Nice work.

Today is National Mac & Cheese Day. I would make some for supper, but I think we're going out instead.
Everybody have a great day. Stay safe and cool.

Good 6AM morning from the Cheesehead part of the Midwest. 56f degrees now, calm winds at 1 mph and heading to the mid 80’s again.

Wow, we are a big open country. Yesterday’s flying adventure was great. We went west from the home area in So. Central Wisconsin to Prairie du Sac where the Wisconsin River joins the Mississippi River. That area alone needs to be put on my we have to explore that area closer list. I think by boat though would be best. Terry and I have explored and drove the River Road a few times but the waterway from about 2500’ up was spectacular.

So, so much open lands outside the cities and towns. Lots of forested areas, open pastures or fields and some of the working farms were again neat to see from the air. We started out following sort of the WSOR RR line west out of Middleton to Prairie du Sac and it was empty of running trains. Some things brewing in Prairie du Sac but nothing moving. While we sort of expected that I do love to see trains moving.

From there north to LaCrosse, Wi. continuing to Winona, Minnesota which is a spectacular railroad modelers paradise at least from the air. Lots of train movement in the yards but again we saw nothing on the mains except sitting trains. There we u turned south and followed mainly the West Bank of the Mississippi River down to Dubuque, Iowa. Terry and I have explored the riverfront in Dubuque and the rail yards are along the riverfront. Nothing moving on the main except for some car shuffling in the yards. Between there and Davenport, Iowa we did see a couple BNSF led trains moving south and 1 CN train and all 3 trains were massive in length with one of the BNSF trains having 3 locos leading, 2 in the middle and one on the end. I can see just watching that train why 95% of the locomotive National Engineers voted to ok a strike last week for August. One man crews and no pay raises in 3 years is crazy especially running trains of 240+ cars. We did see again just trains sitting on the mains but saw no construction going on. We couldn’t get closer then 30 miles north of St. Louis but did go east of the river and south a bit to Belleville, Illinois where we landed, filled the plane and Uber’ed to a pizza place the son has gone to before. His idea of great pizza and mine are a bit different but it was a good pizza. His pizza tastes I believe are clouded by the crappy pizzas in the Austin, Texas area he lives in. From Belleville, Illinois we sort of followed I55 and I39 north and saw 2 Amtrack on the CN main and 5 big freights moving. Flew west around Springfield, Illinois and the same around Rockford, Illinois and picked up the WSOR tracks north out of Janesville that we also had to skirt around back into Middleton, Wi. We took off at 10AM and landed at 6:34PM. For those wondering we were in a Cirrus Vision SF50 and we were flying from 1200’ to 20000’ on the way home. We did a lot of up and down and he was in contact with the flight controllers but mainly around St. Louis, Mo. and the Illinois cities of Springfield and Rockford which is controlled by the Chicago Center. I didn’t pay much attention to the piloting as I did catching the scenery. It was a glorious weather day with calm winds and so few clouds I could write that we never flew through any.

Today, he already took off for Fish Creek, Wi. to pick up his sister and shocking to me his new business partner. They then fly to Cirrus Aircraft HQ. in Duluth, Minnesota.

I have no plans for today. I felt good yesterday but still experiencing some light head symptoms when I stand up but I am not dizzy. Enjoy the day

My turn for C19... Tested positive Tuesday afternoon when I was refused entry to a medical building due to having a low grade fever, which I had no clue about .. felt fine.

It set in a bit last night as fever got tup o just over 102.

Feels kind of like step throat... Scratchy, sore throat and constant headache.

Interesting that this variant is more like a head cold. The last variant was all in my chest.

Good Morning!

Wow! This is post 1001 since catching the train bug 2.5 years ago and joining the forum. That must mean I've shared at least 1000 photos, but probably a-lot more than that, since most posts are multi-photo.
I see no reason to stop sharing anytime soon, as the shop seems like a better place than many to share a few train hobby photos.

Today, I'll accompany the wife downtown while she goes shopping for the weekly supplies. It will give me a chance to see if there's any action going on in the CN yard.
I've got so many photos of the local CN yard, that now I only visit there if something unusual is available to photograph. That includes any SD or GP engines, and any locomotives or railcars of a different colour. I'm not really big into the GEVO's.

For now, I'll just keep sharing a few photos from the Jasper day trip. Like these, of a moving C40-8:

CN 2100_C40-8_Jasper_07-11-2022 (2).JPG

CN 2100_C40-8_Jasper_07-11-2022 (3).JPG

I also snap photos of scenes that just look cool to me. Like this photo taken in the Jasper yard. There's a-lot of wheels in the shot, if you look, both wheel sets and brake wheels:

Joe - I like that Seagrave fire-truck. I've noticed you post fire-truck related material every now and again. Did you serve in the past?

Gary - The building flat background looks good. Don't quite work for me, though. I like to see more dimensions in a background flat.

Willie - Vultures hanging around staring at you with expectations; just gives me the creeps. We don't have vultures up here per-say, but, we do have lots of Ravens. The Raven is a very brutal, yet extremely intelligent bird.

Curt - I'm expecting to see the promised photos soon!

JeffH - Very sorry to hear the virus caught up with you. I do hope it don't affect you in overly negative ways, and heals up soon.

Cups empty, so I suppose it's dog walk time. This dog knows exactly what time it is, and I don't remember ever buying her an alarm clock.

Have a great day!

Good morning all,

We started out a cool 47° headed for mid or upper 70's. Yesterday was not that perfect day the weather wisher forecasted, but it was nice later in the afternoon.

Gary - You are doing fine work on your I.C.R. Station reproduction. It looks like a large structure, you may find yourself having to do some compression to make it work.

Tom-Cambria- beautiful sunset! I was tempted to take a shot of the supermoon but got sidetracked. Our Asters and Milkweeds are in full bloom and maybe snap a shot late this afternoon

Ken OBTC- job sounds like job is going well

Willie - neat buildings in this corner of the layout

Jeff - hope the symptoms do not linger

Guy - nice rr pics

Here are a couple shots of my layout, this one is some cosmetic work on the back side of the feed mill. Track is a little wavy, but I think the real one was too back in 1930 after 40 years of service (went in around 1890)

IMG_2349.JPG

One of the little buildings is the scale house and the other an office. Think there will be small signs on them eventually.

The small yellow building (below) is the seed house.

IMG_2338.JPG

I finished the small embankment over the weekend.

IMG_2347.JPG

Not sure how these little buildings will be arranged in the final configuration. All the vehicles have been removed while I finalize the track work and put trains on

more later, Dave LASM

Well, howdy there internet peeps

It's Troy again.

Sittin' on the patio, trying to write. Only 4.5 chapters to go.

Plantar Fasciitis doing better. The crocs helped. As did rolling the tennis ball under my foot. Late yesterday I started stretching the foot and big toe. Best one I've found is standing on a stair with the back 2/3rds of my feet hanging off. Dip low, then raise up on toes. Hold each for about 15 secs. I'm gradually increasing times on the stretching and trying to get one good stretch every time I use the stairs.

Last evening, while listening to a podcast, and rolling the tennis ball under my foot, I put together some Viking models for various game systems (Saga: Age of Vikings as the obvious one).

Morning again,

Well, the rollout has begun...Email with instructions went out this morning. New VPN!!! Yeah!!

Troy: I just use a vegetable can intead of a tennis ball when I get a flare up. You're right, it isn't much fun.

Hot already as we're under a heat advisory for this afternoon and probably the remainder of the next 7 days.

Ken, the trip ticket and pizza were free the fuel I paid for. It was a good time and better time spent with the son

I saw one a few years ago. It was doing a Rt. 40 (The old National Highway) journey, stopping at several grocery stores along the route.

The weinermobiles by Oscar Meyer are still based in Madison, Wi. even though Oscar Meyer closed the original but still most efficient factory in Madison, Wi and moved its corporate headquarters to Chicago about 3 months after Kraft Foods purchased it. That 2015 because the union workers were paid to much!

I posted a picture on MRR forums here a couple years ago of the 6 Weinermobiles in Verona, Wi. at a orientation meeting with the new hires. I am not home and the pictures are on an external hard drive. That was roughly in 2/2021.

They are fascinating machine and not much different externally then when I saw them as a kid in Chicago
