Good Morning, all!

We did indeed travel to Jasper yesterday, and spent a very long day doing things we like. Turned out about 50/50 what I like to do in comparison to the tourist stuff the wife likes to do.

I got to play all alone along the side of the Jasper CN yard, so I could take photos. Took lots, and I'll be sharing some over the next few days.
Here's the Jasper CN yard looking east:

Here's the yard looking west:

Does anyone know what this railcar is?:

I thought it might be an autorack at first. Now, I'm not so sure. Someone here with more experience knows the truth of the matter.

I'll start posting locomotive photos next day. I've secured good photos of four different types, and all of them working. Plus, I've got better photos of the static display steam locomotive.

It's going to be 85F+ today, and the wife wants to go fishing. Way too hot for me, but, as has been said, a happy wife is a happy life. So, I'll put on the sombrero and take her to Emerald Lake.
The original plan was to go to Silkstone, but, our age has shown the error of our thoughts. We'd need to walk into Silkstone for 4kms, and neither of us wants to do that after the Jasper trip.

Have a great day, everyone!
Guy, that mountain range behind the yards is just a stunning picture. Wow thanks for sharing that.

That is an auto rack per the Railphotos.com website.

While not a picture of your car, your number TTUX 891162 is part of the build series built at National Steel Car in 2008. I have never seen that style of car or at least I don’t remember it

Enjoy the day

Edit, I see Ken also answered. Interesting car

I was given a new policy to review as we are going to begin forcing password changes

That is too bad. That is considered bad policy now

Unfortunately my company also requires and in fact the new parent company has a more strict (more often) change requirement.

Good morning all,

71° headed for 77, some showers expected. Yesterday we picked up about 3/4", crops look good around here.

Mike in Hub City - We live north of Hinckley closer to Finlayson MN. Doctors appt in Duluth for open MRI, which they do not do locally. Is about 88 miles to St. Paul and 64 miles to Duluth. Wife had the MRI, took two pills first to relax her, however she seemed to be more chatty than usual.

Troy - Crocks. I tried them on once and HATE them (hope I can use that word still). No support, plastic feeling, sloppy,YUK.

Patrick - I always hated changing passwords. I worked at a multi national for a few years and ended up with a book full of passwords, every 3 months several expired. Not like I had any sensitive access or anything anyone could do anything with on my work computer.

Tom - Good to hear you got down to the train room

Willie - your cold storage scenes are very nice!

Guy - enjoy your Jasper rail yard scenes as well

I touched up the area around the slide out some. The area to the left will be forested with a logging scene, on the right probally some cows and sheep, plus some stumps

IMG_2335.JPG

I added a little grass and sand for interest, will make a small hill for over the handle.

Announcement ; decided last night to put scenery on the back burner for a while and get some trains going. That will happen this week, otherwise the several scenes with work left are going to consume all my time and I need to get some locomotives out.

I like the effect of the grass mats on the top of the photo. Somewhat by accident.

half the slide out is just about done, still plan on creating a small hill for over the handle.

More later, Dave LASM

Guy: It is an Autorack.

Willie and Dave: Password changes are going to be the way of life anymore. We now have a whole policy waiting for Approval on password requirements. I donn't like changing anymore than anyone else, but the darn hackers are making it difficult to not force password changes. I also have had the same password for a number of years (and not the one I use here).

But as I posted, such policies make your network less secure; at least per the research. Pointy hair boss, who comes up with these policies, needs to understand this.

Good late afternoon. Been home from Urgent Care for almost 3 hours. A decent 45 minute nap since getting home.

I got the oxygen plug put in my nose, an unbeliveable amount of blood work done, an EKG, then probed and looked at by 3 Specialists. The 3rd doctor walks in and says something to my skinny friend in Indian translated later as “who is this guy.” Turns out that my Endocrinologist in Hawaii on vacation with Terry called him and asked him to look at me. I was unaware until this afternoon my Endocrinologist is also head of the department. Anyhow I am home wearing a heart monitor and a Continous Glucose Monitor.

When I mentioned I had Covid to the 3rd doctor he perked up. Then he tells me, your a diabetic and a recent victim (his words) of Covid. We have had a lot of strange cases with that mixture in the last 3 months. We have no answers for you right now. So the monitors are both for 30 days and when I told him my insurance will not pay for the Continuous Glucose Monitor, he laughed and said they will now. I will now be part of a Covid follow up study. The Heart monitor and my complete Urgent Care visit minus the $100 deductible will also be covered by the study. I then signed a ton of paperwork.

I feel fine but nervous and very tired. My 2 chauffers and shadows are still here but are playing on the golf simulator. What a trio we must look like. Dark, 6’4” Indian and a 5’10” grizzled former NHL player and coach at the UW. Me as per the 3rd doctor, a run down medical mess. The third doctor is coming out at 7PM to join us for dinner out on the deck. I am not allowed to grill tonight but I was allowed to show them the steaks in the freezer. My daughter called from her vacation saying she could come home tonight instead of Monday. I explained about my 2 shadows and thanked her for the request but nope I will be fine.

EDIT. I started this tale before 5pm, it’s almost 6 now. I paused around 5:15 as the son just showed up. So now I have 3 shadows and he’s staying till Terry and Crew come home Thursday. I am happy he’s here. He was picked up at the local airport by the coach’s son who is now joining us for dinner. I was told by 2 of the 3 shadows my bar will see use tonight but not by me!

enjoy your day
So good to see you have an excellent team to take care of you, and coach you in the dos and don’ts, have someone there for you is incredible, so many people do not have it,and you have it in spades, and excellent news over the Covid study picking up the bills and monitors, enjoy your steak, you may not be able to hammer the booze, but maybe if you are really good they may allow you a teaspoon to saviour - but you know if you shouldn’t, take note of what the doctors say, and hopefully we will be chatting for years to come.
God bless.

Yes sir, a very good head of red cabbage should be purple. Not sure why they call it red. I love cabbage of any kind.
I like to make my own sauerkraut. I read that unpasteurized sauerkraut is loaded with good bacteria. I don't know, but it is good!

I read Tom Brady does not eat tomatoes for some health reason. I can't imagine why and I would have a hard time giving up tomatoes.

I drink a lot of coffee, 10-14 cups a day. I read coffee also has lots antioxidants as well.
I love red cabbage with lemon and salt, or in coleslaw wi th mayonnaise, I have found an avocado mayo which is Keto yeah!

Lots of people have been saying for 15 or more years that onerous password change policies actually create more security issues than they alleviate.

1) people tend to write them on a piece of paper, or keep them in an electronic list of some sort.
2) Because of the frequency of changes, people who don't write them down, often have to go through the password reset options, which enforces the same insane policies, like "has to have a special character" or "Can't be a previously used password" "cant have sequential numbers" "can't be too similar to a previous password" etc, etc... Therefore, the password reset option gets used so frequently, that hackers find ways to intercept the password reset emails... So they don't even need to try thousands of attempts to guess the password... they just trigger a password reset, and intercept the email.
There are more reasons, but those are the 2 that seem so painfully obvious yet overlooked.

Chad: Boss came from a county that had been hacked and paid the ransom. He's been involved with the DHS ever since and that's where we're headed. Everyplace else I've worked in the past 25 years (until here) has required password changes every 60-90 days. I've seen that same research. It comes from people not following best practices on password changes.

JeffH: They have to call me to actually reset their password....No email involved.

Microsoft is a pretty experienced and knowledgeable company.

I don't think their research comes from a company not following best practices. Microsoft helps set those practices. Best practices no longer include the frequent changing of passwords. That's the whole point.

Well, took a bit of elbow grease, and a full bottle of vinegar to remove (nearly) all the glue from the table, now to work out where I can put the industry, this looks ok, but not 100% sold on this.
I've still got the Walthers Machine shop in it's box, thinking of swapping over the silo and the factory (read Machine shop), but I think the machine shop will end up too near the wye there, so I could put the Machine shop where the silo is and the Silo where the factory sits, Oh I don't know, my brain hurts, any ideas?

And my room now smells like a fish and chip shop:rolleyes:

Afternoon All,

Started out by hooking up the 4 lights I mounted yesterday including slicing my finger with the Exacto knife...again. After that I painted the small build I still have to build and discovered the kit is missing a wall so I emailed the company. So that will probably be another couple of weeks before it gets built. After that I cut out the styrene for the rail crossing. I should be able to finish that tomorrow.

Thank you for the photo likes yesterday.

Joe- Thank you. Great photos. What's the significance of your new avatar? Cool photo that your son found. Good luck with the cataracts.

Smudge- Great looking 3D printing but I bet it would be a pain to paint. Very nice layout shots.

Willie- Nice looking building.

Guy- Great photos.

Dave- The scenery looks good.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Just got back from taking mom to the doc... she did good at lunch, but she had misremembered the time. So we hit the grocery in the extra hour we had to kill. Doc said "See you in 3 months" (last one was only 1 month)

as for crocs:

Screenshot 2022-07-12 at 5.33.12 PM.png
Now that is the epitome of Dad Cool. Grilling a burger on left (gas) grill with my new crocs

Surprisingly, they're helping with the plantar fasciitis. Only been wearing them for about half an hour, but walking on concrete and inside they don't get that ache with every step. My shoes are newish New Balance sneakers I just switched to, so they should be broken down yet. I've retired the older pair of New Balance to getting mucky work shoes.

And the crocs don't feel like they have support, but they do have "bounce" under the heel. So far I like them.
