Hydrochlorothiazide is a better diuretic for daily use than lasix...something to do with potassium, I think

I personallly am not interest in Lasix or any diuretic as a method of weight control. Messes up too much or potentially so, so unless there is a medical need I am not interested in it or any pharmaceutical drug. Wife is an RN and spect 12-13 years in the Cardiac ICU and is now in a Cardiac recovery unit and she mentions Lasix all the time.

I do notice, and think this is probably part of the "easy to put on 5 pounds in a meal and lose it slowly", that when I eat out or otherwise eat food that is higher in salt than my normal intake, that my weight is up a few pounds higher than normal for a day or two. Drinking some extra water (not soda or anything but plain water -- and we have a Berkey filer with heavy metal filter add-on for our drinking water) and less salt helps bring it back after a day or two or three, depending on much I can pull back from the salt intake.

I have a shooting range in my back yard. When we built our house, I had them use a lot of the excavated dirt to build up a backstop about 125 yards from our back porch.

I've wanted that since forever. Back in the early 90s I read on a usenet post from a guy in NH that had 300 yards off his back yard porch he could shoot. Been my dream ever since. Alas, the wife is a city girl and we'll never have a house anywhere that this is possible.

The need for the blue pill is indicative of circulation issues and should be checked out by the heart doctor.

Luckily, though I need to lose a bunch weight and am more sedentary than needed, I have no need for such things. Part of it comes from my intake of OPCs (Oligomeric Proanthocyanadins), fish oil, and other "heart healthy" things (had a doctor tell me that, actually, at a checkup a good while ago -- she was surprised that I didn't have higher BP and other issues).

I'm so far behind. Our 4th of July celebration wore me out! I only had two beers and and shot of whiskey all day. It wasn't alcohol, not this year.😉
Preparation, smoking the turkey and steaming crabs all day did me in. I slept until 8am the next day and did not do any work for two days!

I doubt I will catch up on all the posts I missed, but I did look at all the pictures! 😁

I am a diabetic and that blue pill was suggested because I was a diabetic. Everything I take is medically prescribed and even the 1 A Day senior vitamin and the vitamin D (carefully watched every 3 months) was suggested by the doctor

Back from the PT at the Clinic. My therapist also had Covid along with 21 family members seen at her grandmother’s funeral. Like me, she said 2.5 years of being so careful, seeing patients daily and wearing a mask she gets Covid at a family funeral, WHY?

I am on the front deck waiting for the mailman as I expect a few retail therapy goodies to start arriving. Occasional rain has been falling but of course nothing like the steady rains predicted.

Enjoy

our property is flag shaped.. wider in the back than the front. You can see property lines by following tree lines. Our property extends North up to the top where you can see the southern border of the horse farm to our Northeast. There is nothing to our Northwest, so even if I miss the huge backstop, it's going to be safe. The backstop is about 15' high, and about 40 feet wide. The little tiny white dot is an old picnic table I use to sight in... It's right at about 50 yards to the backstop.

Edit to add: The reason I sight in at 50yards is because of the cartridge I chose for my primary deer rifle. As you can see, the longest shot I could possibly take to harvest a deer, would be right around150 yards. I chose the newer .450 Bushmaster since it has a lot of energy without a lot of speed... a nice heavy slow projectile. At 50 yards, the projectile is still rising to the sight plane (the scope sits higher than the bore axis), but at 100 yards, the projectile is at it's peak height, then starts a rather dramatic drop as it loses speed. The result, is that I can hit a bullseye, within a couple of inches, no matter the distance of the shot... At 50 yards, I'm dead on. At 100 yards, I'll hit about an inch high. At 125 yards, I'll be dead-on again as the bullet has started to drop again, then at 150 yards, it will be about 2-3 inches low. And since all my shots will be at 150 yards or shorter, it ends up being the perfect deer cartridge for me. I can hit a small paper plate at every possible distance without having to judge holdover or holdunder.

I am not saying people shouldn't be using it when a doctor prescribes it for actual medical reasons (and not some online "doctor" who prescribes it because someone thinks they need it).

I commented so that those using it, without a clear medical history, might be interested in seeing their heart doctor since the mechanisms that control the physiology down there are mostly circulation related and are indicative of circulation problems if not working correctly. I've heard several doctors tell women that if their husband/partner has regular and consistent problems with ED to encourage them to send their partner to a heart specialist as this is usually an early warning sign of circulation/heart issues.

I should also mention that OPCs come from things like Grape Seed extract, purple type fruits/vegetables and their juices, Pine Park extract [aka pycnogenol], etc.

Chad, what are OPCs?

oligomeric proanthocyanidins

Polyphenols found mostly in purple/dark red type vegetables and fruits, as well as in French Maritime Pine bark extract [which is called pycnogenol]. Strong antioxidants that provide long term benefit. I use a product called OPC-3 and have been since 2000. I am not trying to shill products on the forum so can provide more details privately to those interested.

But I take that in the morning and also a pynogenol/pine bark supplement in the evening (now -- last few years).

My kids started with OPC-3 when I started mixing a little in their bottles after 6 months and they are hardly ever sick. My grandfather was in the hospital a few times a year over several years with things until he started taking it. Then he wasn't in the hospital again until he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. However, those are all personal anecdotal experiences and not proof of anything other than belief on my/our part.

Good Morning!
We just caught the northern edge of that major storm overnight. There was a-lot of rain spit out in a very short time, along with a good light show and the accompanying thunder. Today, we are back into the fog, but, it looks like the sun is going to shine.

I'm going to cut the lawn today, and do my other chores so I can have the weekend for modelling. The wife works all weekend.

The only photos I have today, are of an aggregate train leaving town last evening. I was first in line, stopped at the gates.
Photos taken through a truck windshield are always boring and crappy, but, it's all I got today.
One ET44AC pulling with another pushing, and about 100 3-bay open hoppers in between them. Headed east to Edmonton:

Willie - I like the web on the window, but, the webs stretched across the street need to go.

DaveB - I like the rocks. Maybe I'll go out sometime today and fill a small bucket with sand/gravel to work on my own layout.
I'm not sure about the looks of the grass mat, but, I'm betting it will fit when you're finished dressing it up. Is that a material specific for the purpose, or is it a rug?

Have a great day, everyone!
The grass mat is from Woodland Scenics and many modelers use it. I just bought it for the slide out area cause I thought it would hold up better, whenever I need to get in this closet have to take out this section of the layout.

This is what it looks like

It does have a pretty heavy duty backing.

Thank you Chad,

I like red cabbage and tomatoes. I eat a lot of both. Do they have OPCs?
I stay away from most fruits because of sugars. I'm diabetic.

Due to kidney disease as a general rule I was advised against supplements, even vitamins.

I seldom if ever get a cold or flu virus. Once every 3-5 years, maybe. I have an overactive immune system, high white blood cell count. I don't know if that is why I never get sick. Could be just dumb luck for all I know.
I make up for it with other chronic illnesses.

I'm blessed to be alive, thank God.

Afternoon All,

Started out running errands and shopping at Wally World. After lunch I did inside chores. After that I lost all motivation for doing something in the train room (especially wiring). I'm so unmotivated I haven't even walked upstairs to do photos. Tomorrow I'm heading to Orlando to see my buddy Tom then I have to go buy bird food for the parrots (store in the general area). After that probably no layout time either so I'm guessing Sunday will be the next day.

TomO- Those are really nice looking hoppers.

Ken (IL)- When I was going for an AS (paramedic technology) which was the year long training course that if successful gave you the ticket to take the state PM exam. I started a year earlier to do the other required courses. Like you, math is my kryptonite. My math skills were so bad I had to take 3 math prerequisites before I could take the one I needed. The only reason I passed the last prerequisite was the profesor took pity on me and passed me. Somehow the PM program director got the requirement waived so I actually recieved a degree instead of just a certificate. I wish you luck.

Troy- Lord fuzzbutt is a nice looking cat.🐱

Smudge- That blows.

Jeff- I was thinking the same thing about the horror movie.

Karl- Congrats on the new family member.🐶

Dave- The picture with the rock debris definitely looks better.

Guy- Nice 1:1 photos.

I hope everyone has a good night.

I like red cabbage and tomatoes. I eat a lot of both. Do they have OPCs?

Red ones tend to have Lycopene (Tomatoes for sure) which is another strong antioxidant. Also good for you. Supposedly one of those "good for prostate" type things. Not sure how well studied it is. I take a Lycopene supplement as well.

Most of the red things have it to a certain extent. Not sure about the cabbage but probably. Though isn't red cabbage more purple?

Even if I pass/pee out 95% of my supplements, the other 5% is better than 0% is how I look at it, and some of these like pycogenol and OPC have been studied to a certain degree with positive results.

Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those who like using the Little Blue Pills (LBP)s

It's Troy again. Post nap. Birthday celebrations can take a lot out of one. And I wasn't even drinking (doesn't help on my end with the LBP)

Post nap, I did decide to break in the coffee bar in the train room/basement writing cave.

The current work in progress is "The Marocchino Sparrow" (all books have a coffee drink title)... What is a marocchino, you ask?

It's from the Italian word meaning brown, leather brown, and applied to an espresso drink (Italian after all) made with the best brown substance... chocolate. In the rest of the world where English is the primary language of Baristas, we'd call it a Mocha Latte.

But, if one travels to Alba, Italia, one doesn't just add chocolate. One adds Nutella. For Alba is the home of Nutella.

A healthy scoop of the brown spread in the bottom of the cup, add a double shot of espresso on top, and then steamed milk. I've never figured out how to get the cool latte foam art, so this is how mine looked.
