Good Afternoon Everyone out there in Model Railroad Land. Keeping this short and to the point.

Just was released from the Hospital after falling down the hallway steps from the backdoor to garage. Paramedics arrived and stood me up and helped me into the kitchen. The next day I couldn't stand so an Ambulance was called and I was taken to the local hospital. I was admitted to the Modified ICU and they found I had Chronic Heart Failure. Fun.

A modified diet and lots of meds to prevent additional damage.

I'll be checking in a bit but my Model Railroad comments with be few and far between.

Keep on rolling down the track!

WOW! Definately not a good day, take it easy and take your meds, few days you'll be fine I'm sure, keep us updated as and when you can please.

I have. Cost is a thing right now, so trying to economize. YD selling the frog hex ( serves 6 frogs) for about $85 delivered, approx $14 per frog. I'd need two for my yard.

LHS sells the Caboose throws for $6 each. Can prob find cheaper. So worth the experiment, methinks. I will ty to document the process in case I screw up and it is successful 😎

Dropped wife and dau at the nails place and I made it to LHS (Scale Model Supplies for those readers fam with the Twin-Cities), and bought a few of the throws to try.

Also bought a Xuron 2193 hard-wire cutter - was cheaper than Amazon's price.
Steve- for the front or back of the roof?
Willie- good point about eating them with the skins on. I can remember, as a kid, walking down the lane at my grandparents’ farm(which is now my uncle’s- been in the family since the early 60’s), picking a tomato off the vine, rubbing the dirt & what not off on my sleeve & eating it like an apple. Glad to see you stayed out of the gutter with your comment about Jaz’s poultry.
😂🤣😂
Ken(IL)- glaf to hear that YOH is feeling better & hope that you can fight it off. When I got it, sore throat was my first symptom.
Several in this family -- No such thing as a "former" Marine!
Sherril- that’s what I’ve been told by several friends & family who served in The Corps. “Once a Marine, Always a Marine!!”.
Greg- sorry to hear that you were in the “resort hotel”, as I like to call it. The one here is town is often referred to as “the castle on the hill”. Sure was nice to finally put a face to the name a couple weeks back in Waupaca.
Terry- I think D&J Ken lives in VA. I think OBK lives in Central MD.

Greg, I'm very sorry to hear the news.

Boris, I forgot about the Shingles vaccine, I have not gotten that one. Its not deadly or contagious is it? Pain I can live with, what's new?
The media's selling of covid to increase advertising revenue is disgraceful. Since the pandemic my Mom has not left her apartment six times.
For over a year the fist thing she told me when I called was the covid statistics.
My Mom will be here with us again today. Last 4th of July she came early and closed the party. She is an amazing lady! I miss taking her with me grocery shopping.

All we can do is get the vaccines, wear the mask and keep our distance. Life must go on.

Willie and Curt, we would be honored to have you both. Another reason to advocate for high speed trains! 😉

Any reason is a good reason to advocate for trains in my book! 😁 Why is it the crap special interests get the most money? Oh never mind.

Save the the trains! 😉
I'm not a huge fan of southern fried rock, but they do have some great songs!

Happy 4th of July Everybody! Today is also my late sister Theresa's birthday, I miss her so very much.
Our celebration is our way of thanking God for our family, friends and we thank God I was born in Baltimore, Maryland USA USA USA!!!
God Bless Us Everyone.

1hr screen only showed the joke if. Had not seen smudges reply I would have scrolled past!
You just take care of yourself, at least when I fell it was just a limb not my heart! thank you for advising us, so we know why your not posting, when you hopefully feeling better update us. Thoughts are with you. whilst lying down, wiggle your toes occasionaly to keep the blood oxygen pumping round properly and not pooling, do not have a stroke to top all that off. You can check with the doctors on this, and feel free to slap me if they say that’s bad for any reason.
Look after yourself.

I had the shingles vaccine about five or six years ago? It was right before our sojourn to Smoggy Los Angeles. Since I got Chicken Pox TWICE as a kid, as soon as the doc said You're a prime candidate for Shingles, I rolled my sleeve up and said Hit me!

Shot one was minor soreness in the arm, and general lethargy the next day.

Shot two knocked me on my arse for a full day. Kinda like the covid second Pfizer shot did. Sweaty, chills, etc. Wife had similar, but less severe reaction. She could still work the next day after #2, but slept late, and went to bed early. I probably got the Man-Flu version.

The doc told me the 2nd one is because we woke up the body's defenses to the Chicken Pox virus with the first shot. And when the inactive bits in the 2nd shot hit the muscle, it was like Gen Krueger's sixth army, and their US Marine buddies, swarming islands in the Pacific during WW2. Since the body fights infection by virus via means like fever and inflammation, I got the full onslaught.

Here's some info from the Mayo about the shots.

I'm not going to take the time to locate it, but ZdoggMD has several interviews with Dr. Paul Offet, who sits on the FDA's vaccination advisory board. Back in the days of debating the Covid MRNA vaccines, the two docs discuss getting the Chicken Pox vaccine, and how they expected (and in later interviews) had similar responses from the Covid vax as to their CP vax. In a nutshell, my analogy of your T and B cells storming the beach like US GIs and Marines was apt.

So, your body, your choice.

After talking with friends (or seeing them on FB talk about several weeks of nasty hives and itching and pain), I'll take the vax. Even if the shingles show up, data says it will be milder and shorter duration.

Good Morning All. Happy Independence Day. Absolutely clear, humid and 75°. That unexpected rain yesterday afternoon, while cooling things off considerably, did nothing to the pool temperature. It remained at 88° although it will be much lower this morning after the clear still night. Long range forecast still calls for triple digits until at least the 12th of July.

The plain tomato sauce canning adventure yesterday was a complete success. I only made four pints but I am only trying to stay ahead of the harvest. There's about 40 more pounds ripening right now, not counting hundreds of Cherry Tomatoes. I didn't get to the Jalapenos, but they'll wait.
IMG_1244.JPG

Cutting up the dead tree that I cut down last week is on hold today because I don't want to get my shoes muddy! I did cut up about five days worth of heating firewood yesterday. I still have one more new ceiling fan to install in one of the guest bedrooms instead.
This afternoon, we head to Dallas for the July 4 celebration at my brother #1's home. It's an annual thing that we haven't had since 2019, pre-Covid. Tomorrow we'll get either 2 or all 3 local grandkids at our home for a 3 day visit. Maybe I'll show the 15 year old grandson how much fun it is to ride the tractor and mow the yard. Our 7 year old granddaughter likes to pick tomatoes from Grandpa's garden, but only for five minutes or so. Short attention span.

Thanks to all who commented or liked the post yesterday regarding Tony's Wholesale Meats; OB Ken, Steve J, Karl, Tom O, Rick, Sherrel, Patrick, Jaz, Curt, Hughie, Tom, Gary, Smudge, Joe, Mike, Louis.

I would also like to thank everyone who made comments regarding my gardening and preserving efforts over the past few months. It is a hobby that I really enjoy, both the growing and the eating.

About all that I did out in the train shed yesterday was to attach the actual sign to the billboard.
IMG_1208.JPG

This was one of the two signs that came with the kit. For the other billboard I am going to be looking on the internet for a "Marlboro" billboard. I am giving the other one a little time off as this one was rather tedious. That's mainly because I wasn't able to devote any steady continuous time to the project.

Todd - I have used the Food Savor in the past. But I only have one large freezer plus the side by side one on the fridge, and there just isn't room for anything more. It's used primarily for meat/fish, veggies that freeze better than canning, and homemade bread that I make in the winter for summertime use.
Dave - I got the blender thing!🤣
Jaz - Not to rebut your advice to Terry, but there are disadvantages to living in Florida that may not be obvious to folks living across the pond. Sure one doesn't need to heat much, but air conditioning is needed most of the year. Humidity levels and insects are generally high and there is a greater threat from hurricanes, not that they don't exist in NC. There are advantages and disadvantages to living in all of the different parts of our country. For my area, there is heat and tornadoes, down in South TX and along the Gulf and eastern coasts, there are hurricanes; there's snow and prolonged cold weather in the upper Midwest and eastern Rockies. Volcanos in the Northwest. Out where Sherrel lives, there are wildfires, earthquakes, and well, just living in California! Then there's Guy in Canada. He's out shoveling snow seven months a year. But there is something for everyone here. Just depends on your tolerance level for certain stuff.
Greg - Not good news, but at least you're OK for now. Prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Curt - Even sparse progress is still progress.

Everybody have a great Independence Day.

Happy Independence Day! Hats off to those who fought and especially the myriads of forgotten heroes that gave much, if not all, for the freedoms we take for granted.

Will be marching in the local 4th of july parade, celebrating specifically the religious freedom which I cherish.

Greg - how fast life can change, hope your condition eases

Willie - glad you got the joke. By the way, excellent shots posted yesterday!

Worked on the layout some, got this little building done and did some scenery. When things stall, usually after a big accomplishment (like wiring the layout) I like to work on scenery, lots of it to do

IMG_2306.JPG

The fence looks best blurred like in this pic. Maybe have to get some details in this area in the future.

RAIN is forecast for today, already wet out there. Lots of fireworks in the neighborhood last night, however I slept through most of it.

Later, Dave LASM

Good morning fellow modelers and others. 69f degrees in So. Central Wisconsin and the overnight storms predicted are still in West Central Iowa and now they say maybe 1pm they will arrive. 83 again for the high today. Then it depends on the area you are in for rain totals. Everyone should get 1/2” but some may get 3x that.

We do have 10 couples coming today for the celebration day? No family which is what we have only had the last 2 4th of Julys. The daughter and family are in Door County at their place and the son has some friends over down in Texas. His new replacement A/C unit is working great he says. The reason it stopped was when they installed the new one they didn’t open some line fully. The owner of the HVAC company says he has a couple lazy technicians and would talk to them.

I got to the paint booth yesterday and spent a couple hours in their last night. Finally, so progress on my modeling front.

I don’t do fireworks and I don’t have a real interest in seeing them. We had a friend down the lake from us up north who always invited quite a few of us for viewing the fireworks over the lake. He had a neighbor that couldn’t buy enough of them and his displayed rivaled some of the really good shows in North Central Wisconsin. The kids loved it until the daughter and niece got slight burns from the falling debris at the Mosinee fireworks display. She tolerates watching them now only for her kids sake.

Greg, just when we thought we’d be able to meet up! Hold the damn handrail, I know I have too. Get better, listen as always to the doctors and wife.

Terry, your life has been real nuts the last year or more. Don’t make rash decisions and do what make sense to you.

regional weather, WILLIE, is so right Jaz about what he wrote. No where in the USA is there a weather safe haven. Every region of the country is different of course and has its own climate issues. I can’t handle constant humidity which rules out Florida for us and hurricanes really bother me. Up here in Wisconsin the saying is wait 5 minutes and it the weather will change. So far in 2022 we have experienced 100f degrees temperature, drought, heavy rains, flooding, tornados, 12” of snowfall in 24 hours, 1/4 to 1/2” ice storms and -35F degrees real temperatures with wind chills of -50. I call it diverse.

Sherrel, what’s the solution to the incompetence surrounding air travel? Is there one?

I am going outside to clean my grilling area and stock the outdoor refrigerators with refreshments and the meats to cook. The pool is ready but with no kids invited it should be fairly quiet today. If the weather drives us inside, the pool deck area and covered patio area are cleaned and ready. Terry is out riding with the doctor friend now as she did her bit for today last night.

Have a great day

Good morning all and Happy Independence Day to my fellow citizens of the USA. Currently 72 degrees on the way to a high in the 90's with heat index around 100. In other words, miserable.

My wife is doing much better and seems to be just about over Covid. Same with my sister and nephew. So far I seem to have escaped it and hoping to keep it that way. I did an at-home test yesterday and it was negative. I've had a bit of a sore throat the last couple days and I feared that was the beginnings of Covid like it was for my wife. So far thought I don't seem to have it.

My dad, who is now almost 83 years old has been in charge of the local July 4 fireworks display for many many years. Every year he says it's his last year doing it but when the next year comes around he's out there again. He and his crew did a show for a nearby town Saturday night and he was told it was the best show that town had ever had and tonight he's doing the local show. He's out there with his crew building ground displays and setting things up each year and I always worry about him. I worry about him at his age, mainly because of the heat and humidity. Hoping he stays safe again this year.

Nothing much else going on. Planning to stay inside today as much as possible and finish up my homework for the week so I don't have to do it after going back to work tomorrow. I have 3 of 4 assignments and quizzes done so far, just one more to go for the week.

Hope you all have a great day!

Happy Independence Day to my American friends. Hope yu'all have a great celebratory holiday and you arn't invaded by aliens, as was shown on that Hollywood documentary.

Greg - I took some surprise reading about you're sudden condition. Hope that situation clears up and heals quickly. Soon as I read it, I sent an immediate Canuck prayer. All the best to you!

Folks, my toothache is quickly turning into an insurance scam nightmare. Some dental surgeon in the city sent me a looong text of paperwork to fill in before I can even get anything done about the tooth. The anti-biotics have helped considerably, but, I still feel throbbing pain in the gums. A string tied to the doorknob is starting to look like an option.
I just want that tooth pulled out. There are still lots of it's friends in there, so I can afford one tooth. - Maybe I'll make an appointment with another dentist; if there's any such thing as an honest one.

Company went back home yesterday, so I did get some time in the layout room. I moved the spur servicing the oil dealership off the cork, and made more room for the dealership buildings-n-tanks. Plus, I got a first coat of off-white on the tanks.
I'm just using cheap folk-art paint that costs 2.50 for a 2fl.oz. bottle. There was a learning curve to get that crap mixed to pass through my airbrush properly. It worked out though.
Here's a couple of photos:
OilDeal_-7-03-2022 (1).JPG

OilDeal_-7-03-2022 (2).JPG

I also laid that track in the foreground yesterday.

There's been a-lot of fog in the forest lately. On the dog walk yesterday, I half expected the cloaked witch from the Black Sabbath cover album to come walking slowly up the forest trail:
WtCrtForest_07-03-2022.JPG

She never appeared, so I suppose it's not my time, yet.

Curt - I'm not exactly sure what you have going on there. I enlarged the photo to see better. Looks like you're getting into waterways on the layout.
Willie - Canadians only shovel snow for 6-1/2 months of the year. That other half a month; we're too sick-n-tired of shovelling to get out there anymore.
Dave B - I really enjoy all the layout photos you post. Well done!!!

Time to get on with it. Have a good one!

Good Morning from Cooky Land! Has been very nice the last few days - low temps at night in the high 50's really cools the house down at night.
I'll be back later with more news as the "guests" are starting to stir.

The Spousal Unit was OOT for two days attending a delayed class reunion (from Covid). Before she left - I told her that I was reluctant to let her go and that she would be the youngest looking 72 YO "queen" of the event - and of course - she had to tell me that I was correct .. even sister Irene (who went with her) agreed.
I better watch myself or I may find myself on the outside of the door peering in once she receives her inheritance!

Grandkids, boys 8 & 10, never stop moving but their parents are doing an EXCELLENT Job of raising them; they are polite and have only had one scrap, argument, disagreement in two full days.

CURT - That photo was about nine years back and is the #2 grandson riding with me. I really enjoyed having access to all BOB's property and trains - used to take the G-Kids there every time they were in town - the nicest part was it is only 2 miles down the road from me!

HAPPY 4th to everyone! Have a faimly get together at the former MIL's home - today ... She would have been 101 years old today.

I'm really convinced that dentist will squeeze your insurance for all they can. Instead of pulling that tooth, they'll recommend a root canal. When that fails they'll go with a cap. When that fails here comes the implant. They just can't go directly to the implant because you would not need to come back except for cleanings.
