Late this afternoon, my wife called and told me to drive down to the Norfolk Southern siding near our home.
When I got there, these flat cars with maintenance equipment was on the siding.

As you can see, there is a strip of woods between the road and the tracks.

The length of the loaded cars looked to be about 1/4 mile long.

I think they will be replacing ties along this streach of track.

I managed to get these pictures in between the cars and trucks driving along the highway.

About the only way you can get me to eat cabbage is in cole slaw, and in small servings at that…
The German / N European red cabbage is far superior to cole slaw.

I like to brown diced onions in oil and then dump the cabbage in and cook it until hot.

Some cook it with Apple juice.

Lots of variations. But it’s awesome warm with meat and gravy and potato dumplings (kartoffelklöße) or spaetzle.

I dug out my Kato n-scale E8s and started cleaning them out so that they could run my passenger train. Well, I found that I had converted them to DCC. I have no recollection of this and hope that I saved the original lightboards since I do not plan on going DCC on my n-scale stuff. Anyway, I cleaned out the trucks, motor and brass contacts on all 3 engines (926, 932, 935B). Found that 932's motor was bad, so I replaced it with a spare motor. Had to move the pick ups and the flywheels over. After all that, I connected my n-scale track to my NCE system. The decoders ended up being Digitrax DN145K, which was discontinued in 2002.

So, out of the 3, only 932 would program. The other 2 are non-responsive. I cleaned the contacts for 926's board, but no change. I really hope I can find the DC boards. I really don't remember the last time I ran these.

I know its a single of getting old but I am 31 F******** years old there should be one day ONE DAY I can go with out sneezing and farting.
Consider them a blessing.

By the time I turned 30, I faced my first life-threatening health issue, and they continued to appear with a regularity of about every ten years after that.

I love cabbage! Whenever I core and quarter a head to boil with potatoes and a ham bone, I can’t resist eating some raw. I put the cabbage core at the bottom of the pot and eat that too!

Strangely enough, I don't like cole-slaw.
The German / N European red cabbage
My wife prefers red cabbage; her favorite is savoy cabbage. They are good, but my favorite is green cabbage. But I will eat any kind cabbage.

My wife makes cabbage pasta on the stove top; I love that too!
Some cook it with Apple juice.
My mom and her sister, my Godmother, told me that my 100% German grandfather liked adding apples to homemade sauerkraut. They also said that my 100% Irish grandmother would insist, “I’m not ruining all the sauerkraut with apples!” My grandmother would peel and slice an apple to serve to my grandfather with her plain sauerkraut.

I agree with my grandmother, all you need to make the best homemade sauerkraut is cabbage, salt, water and time.

For Thanksgiving, I put sauerkraut and pepper bacon in a slow cooker the day before and let it cook for several hours. It’s best to let it cool overnight and then finish cooking it on Thanksgiving Day.

Good morning, Everyone!

Its freaking cold, 8 in Baltimore WTF!

Thank God for our old reliable gas furnace. It's only 80% efficient, but I love it! It's simple to work on, no need for a service technician. I can sit on a chair in front of it and service, repair or replace almost every part in it. After trial and error, I know it very well. To make it even better I get discounted OE parts from Amazon! I'm not spending thousands to upgraded to a high efficiency furnace. My heating bill was $248 last month.

We haven't worked since the snow/Ice storm hit last week. I need to get back to work for a break. I've been busting my 🫏 in the attic. I'm tired and sore! My goal of setting up a layout in the attic is getting closer to becoming a reality.
Today is my young bride's birthday, she turns 60 today. My little Angel looks prettier to me every day.
One more love song 😁

Good morning all!

Currently 9F but the big news is its going to be around 24F for a high. That's the highest its been in the last 10 days. Temps will
begin to be around average for this time of year starting tomorrow.

Have an away basketball tournament today. Last tournament of the year...yea! I'm kind of thrilled my daughter has decided not
to do a spring sport this year. Nights and weekends will be free in 2 weeks with the exception of travel volleyball.

Have a safe day everyone!

Those were love songs? Is that what I've been doing wrong? haha

Just a suggestion—purchase spares of the components in your furnace now, so you’ll have them when you need them without delay.
You’ll also have them after the parts are NLA.

08°F and -10°F this morning. Warm-up starts Monday and it is suposed to get above freezing.

I worked on one of my guitars last night. The weather is playing havoc with the necks on a couple of them and had to do some truss rod adjustment. They still look good this morning and I'm going to play them later to make sure they aren't buzzing on the frets. The Les Pauls were not affected I guess because the necks on those two are finished.

Coffee's done. Talk later. Have a great Samstag! Servus!

Good afternoon all. 12c with the odd shower.

A photograph of our 'day room' in the Owner's Suite. It is much larger than the ones on ships we have travelled previously.
Before, they have been large rooms with beds and living area combined.
Here we have a separate bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Access to the bathroom is also from the day room, so no need to go into the bedroom first

Guten morgan zusammen!

As Louis posted, it's damn cold here in what is supposed to be the land of pleasant living. Maybe if you are a polar bear or a penguin , but not a human. It was 5° when I woke up at 3 am to pee! We wont be above freezing for the next 10 days at least!

Gonna stay in the basement today, unless the wife wants to go to Hobby Lobby later.

BBL, got lots of backdrop to sand seams and paint today!

Has anyone here received their 2025 SSA-1099/1042S Benefit Statement from SS yet? They say you are supposed to receive it by the end of January and they started mailing them the first week of the year.

Well, here we are at the end of January and no statement or even an indication they mailed it.

Anyone get theirs yet?
