Ugh... up at 2;30 realizing I needed to pee

Stood up and realized the Ibuprofen had all worn off and my piriformis muscle was holding my sciatic nerve hostage the way Alan Rickman did in Die Hard.

Finally made it down to the basement cave, bladder empty, and ibu restocked. Did purposeful collapse onto the floor. layed on my belly, left leg angle to look like a number 4. Hit the watch timer and layed there trying to get the offending piriformis muscle to loosen up. three minutes long, and with the cat trying head butt my scalp, the muscle finally got a little stretch back.

So I'm on the couch, waiting on the ibu to get into the system.

Overall, we came out the storm, evidently called "Fern" mostly good. About 7 inches of snow. Light, and blowy, so it'll be a drifting pain until it starts to melt.

Karl: what part of the country are you in? NY? 17 inches seems like a lot. I haven't heard if that was the max end of the snow band? But it should be close.

Good morning! It's Monday, 9°F and partly cloudy.

Good morning, Everyone!

We ended up with 10-14 inches of snow here in Dundalk. Thanks to a heavy snow band parked over the southeast corner of Baltimore City and Baltimore County. Dundalk was in the bullseye of the storm’s strongest snow band in and around the Baltimore metro area. I heard reports that nearby areas northeast of us, Rosedale and Towson seeing only 3-5 inches.

Why can't we have that kind of luck with the Power Ball? 🤪 o_O

Karl is northwest of the Baltimore metro area, and in Carroll County (I think) he can get much higher totals than the metro area and usually does. Thanks to Carroll County’s elevation, terrain, and snow banding, huge local spikes can occur.

We get interesting weather here, sitting between the Catoctin Mountains to the west - part of the Blue Ridge within the larger Appalachian system - and the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean to the east.

Most of the time our weather is mild, sometimes the 💩 hits the fan!

Thank God for our neighbor and his 11hp snow blower. He took care of most of the snow removal for us. By the time we woke up this morning, the wind-blown snow had completely buried our once-clear sidewalks and driveway. :(

Every day is a good day; some are simply better than others.

No, not injured. Nor was anyone else, thank God. If I had made a mistake that injured someone--or worse--I don't think I could live with myself. But I got very, very lucky.
Metal, plastic, and whatever else they put into modern vehicles can be replaced easily, but people cannot.

Everyone makes mistakes, so don’t be too hard on yourself - that’s why they’re called accidents.

I admire your honesty; most people would be quick to say, “It wasn’t me!”

Most importantly, I’m just glad that you and everyone else are safe.

Good morning all!

Cold again this morning. Currently -4F with an expected high of around 9F. These cold temps will be with us thru
Fri before we start to thaw out.

Have some household chores to do this morning, nothing big.

Basketball game is away tonight so travel and dinner out is in order.

That's about all going on in my frozen world.

Have a safe day everyone!

Morning all,

Currently 5° and cloudy, but the clouds expected to clear off within the next couple of hours dropping the temp to below 0° before it warms back up. Supposed to be sunny and 24° later. Roads on the way in mostly decent as the sun yesterday really made quick work where they plowed and treated.

Schools and some businesses closed due to the cold. Could have been worse. The "breezes" (15-25mph), could have blown this powdery crap into much bigger drifts. I have an 11" tall one across the back patio. I have had them as high as 3' with less snow.

Good morning folks. It's -01°F outside, toasty 76°F inside. Train session went well yesterday. I hadn't cleaned track in awhile like I said I was going to do, and it was pretty dirty in spots. Still, I only spot cleaned and all was good.

Neighbors are all still at home. I guess they were either told not to come in, or they told them they weren't coming. It was nice sleeping through the morning and not listening to the neighbor's turbo Diesel starting up at 0300. Hope the snow stays for weeks.

It's really nice when you don't have to drive in it. My first major snow since retirement. While looking out the living room window yesterday afternoon, I just had this big grin on my face knowing I would be staying safe inside.

Have a great, safe Montag! Servus!

Good Morning All from a still frozen North Central Texas. It's cloudy and 13°, not as cold as the 7° that was in the forecast. It snowed lightly most of the day yesterday on top of the 5" of ice out there. The road out front is being used by some brave souls, but I haven't ventured out there to see what it's really like. I know better than to try to walk on top of this ice. I can't drive until the ice melts off the windshield either, which may not be until late Tuesday or Wednesday. There's at least a 2.5" layer on the cars. I miss the sun!

I did venture out on both of the porches yesterday to retrieve firewood. There's still some left, but I will have to hit up the resupply wagon parked about 5' away by this afternoon. There's still power outages in the Dallas area, but there haven't been any reported in our county. We obviously have a more robust system.

I have not gone out to the train shed and risking a fall on the ice, a trip of around 150' away. I miss it but safety takes priority. I probably wouldn't be able to get up without something to grab on to. My guess is that the temperature out there is in the low-50's anyway.
A couple of days ago, I took some pictures of a fire truck that I got from Chet. I don't remember what kind but it is a beautiful model, it may be a Classic Metal Works.

It is too old for me to use as an active fire truck on the layout, I have a Historic Museum in one town where I intend to put it on outdoor display.

Terry - No livestream from our church; it's really small. We watched the telecast from the cathedral in Dallas with their bishop.
Swal - I find the touchscreen on both of our cars to be a real pain. Two issues for me. Unless I am stopped, I cannot pay attention to it while driving. Second, it is a bit too far out of my reach. I am also an old fashioned guy that likes manual controls. I am learning that I can talk to my Lexus and control radio volume/station choice, heat/cooling controls and who knows what else. I don't use the phone at all even when not driving, but it can be Bluetooth connected. My wife has hers set up that way. Always strange when I am in the driveway and it intercepts her conversations from in the house for about 125' away. I don't know how to disable it yet!
Hughie - I read that ERCOT had permission to take the data centers off line if needed, to provide sufficient power to their other customers. Permission was needed from the EPA for the data centers to fire up their noisy polluting backup diesel generators; which none have had to do yet.
Ken - Good luck with the power.

The late Eddie Van Halen was born on this day in 1955. Sadly he passed away at age 65, five years ago.

Everyone have a great Monday. Stay warm and stay off the roads if you live in an area without snow plows like I do.

Good morning gang!

17° under partly cloudy skies, heading to a high of 24°. I'll wait til later to finish up the driveway and move the cars once the sun gets to the front of the house. Til then I'm relaxing.. Shoveling and plowing yesterday has awakened some muscles I had forgotten about!

Troy, Louis pretty much nailed my location. I'm between Baltimore and Frederick MD, and due north of DC. In fact Georgia Ave in DC becomes MD Rt97 once it crosses into MD and runs to the PA line. At one point it is only 5 miles from the house. Most winters I question why I own a snow blower and a tractor with a plow, the other winters I remember why.

After getting 1.5 inches of rain over the weekend and the temperature dropped from 58 degrees when I went to church yesterday to 19 degrees this morning, I was prepared for power interruptions today. Lucky not to have any problems today.
The Birmingham ,Alabama area is in a bubble that escaped the ice and sleet that hit other areas of the south. I knew we were in good shape when I heard the garbage truck run at 6:30 this morning.
The wind dried the pavement, but the water in the gutters froze. I looked at my inclined driveway where the water drained across it and it is slick with ice. The sun is trying to peek thru the clouds, so the wind may dry things before temps get down to seven degrees tonight.
Watching on TV to see them manually shoveling sand out of a truck onto local roadways.

Remember folks, this is what some people were wishing for back in August!

Willie- I have placed an order with Chet for about 20 vehicles, also.
He had a marvelous collection of vehicles, some of which I have not seen for sale before. They are some really nice vehicles.
He still has about 100 vehicles and I would love to transfer some more titles to my railroad. However, I have exceeded my modeling budget for now.
I'm looking forward to pictures of that fire engine being on your layout. Some Alabama volunteer fire departments still use these old fire engines.

Good morning Crew. As I’ve not really paid attention to the weather except the temperatures and winds for here at home, the snow fall you guys are getting surprise me. The son keeps sending pictures of the ice in Austin but snow in Wisconsin is expected and we are prepared as a state for it. So best to you who have had to or will have to dig out. Ice! Different story, let it melt…

Temperature currently is -7f feels like -25.

I spent way more after hockey than the plan was when I hit the LHS for more styrene. Today I need to hit up HomeDepot for a re-supply of adhesives. I want to try the new CA that HD is advertising plus I’ll re-stock my Gorilla Glue’s brand of CA. I laminate Styrene to Black Sintra when building structures. This reduces greatly but does not eliminate the use of structural support for frame work.

I finished the last of the weathering commissions last night right before midnight. I set my timer for 10pm but Terry popped in and asked me if I was ok since it was 12:10am. My timer is dead so off to Amazon this morning to find a replacement

Terry in 7/2024 held her last political fund raiser in the previous house. This place while a good size sq. footage is too small to hold one so she stopped. Until this week! Not being held here but at the daughter’s shop which has a great 40 x 60 high ceiling open space and it’s quite nice looking. So I am on grocery/liquor run duties and will help arrange the bars and other things. Mainly though today I will making sure the tools will be safe. I am slightly ticked about this but she’s held her seething political feelings in and this will be a good release for her. There will be a retiring Governor, Senator and a couple local area congressmen here as the headliners. It’s a sell out if the weather holds off. The cold is ok, it just can’t snow over 6” on Thursday! Thursday night at 7pm I will be running slot cars with the grandson and his friends. I like the retiring governor, a really nice guy but the rest are typical political blow hards protecting their own jobs, own healthcare and their own pensions. They could care less about us, IMOO and YOMV

Stay warm

Edit: the HVAC company just called. The new valve is in. The train room normally at 68f degrees was 62 last week. Changing what I hoped was a dead thermostat ending up with me calling HVAC. They came out and quoted basically 3 DCC sound equipped diesels and I ok’d it. They didn’t have one but could have installed it Saturday for an additional sound equipped locomotive. They are on their way now

Good morning folks, 12F here and sunny. Supposed to hit 26 today, so no thawing in sight yet. With a 50 yard long driveway I'm probably not even gonna make a mailbox run. My goal today is to drink coffee and avoid the news about stupid people doing stupid stuff. Will probably have family in again today, our house has always been the "refuge" for our crew and now that they bought the 4 wheeler, they make shuttle runs over to our place!
