Good morning, y'all. I'm Len, 78 and live (for about 3 more weeks) in East Texas. I've been reading through the Coffee Shop threads for several months now and I see there's a bunch of good folks with some common interests here. It also seems like a pretty close knit group so I will tread lightly. I've been sort of an on-and-off model railroader for many years. I started the Pine Flat diorama several months ago only to have to pack it all up and get ready for our move to Cheyenne at the end of the month. I'm really hoping this will be the last move for us...
Anyway, with your permissions, I would like to join the group for coffee from time to time. Thanks and a good day to all.

Welcome on board Len A good friendly crew here.

I have asked Flo to give you the drink of your choice. She will tell you how much to pay. ;)🤣🤣🤣

For my storage it’s easy, the colors match the season. In Verona, Wi. USA our recycling bins are blue, garbage is an ugly brown
We use similar storage bins and have kind of color coded them. Most of the Christmas ones are green or red or mixed breed/red. The Halloween / Fall decor are mostly in orange and black bins. We don’t have them numbered and specific locations for each one.

Our garbage/trash bins in my city are black for garbage and blue for recycling. We had green for green waste but the landfill stopped doing mulch and composting so in 2025 they won’t be using that one. They want to put green waste in the landfill.

So I'm almost done with the renovation of my now 1 deck layout. Just a few more things to get done. I did a few drawings a few years back of a pair of FL9 New Haven locos. I want to frame the drawing up to larger size then the smaller one I have now, I also found a drawing (not mine) of a Conrail loco I liked and made some changes which will in the future be a 3 engine lash up of 3 engines. They should all look good on my layouts wall. I'll be posting those photos of the wall in the near future. I should have bought a printer capable of printing 11 X 17 inch sheets instead of the one I have now that can only handle 8.5 X 17 inch sheets.

Well howdy there internet peeps and new guy Len!

It's Troy again, and I have a conundrum...

On the left, a bottle I purchased. On the right, a gift from the daughter's boyfriend (technically both of them). But he picked it up at the store.

Looks like a darn good gift. Single Barrel, 115 proof Rye!

But, it came as you see it. I asked if they'd opened it and had a swig? I expected to hear, year, "I just had to give a pour...."

NOPE! "That's the way it came"

Looked like someone at the Liquor store assumed the boyfriend was the one who sampled it and sold it like that (Hint: look at the top of the bottles. Left is unopened).

We agreed that taking it back to the liquor store would be futile. They were just happed to see a bottle someone had opened, swigged, and put back on the shelf walk out the door.

So, if it were you, would you wipe off the mouth of the bottle and give it a pour? Or pour it down the drain? I HATE to dump it, but I don't have an enemy nearby to give it a taste test.

Answer :-
Carefully wrap it and post to David in the land of the former North British Railway.
Once received I shall give it a thorough tasting.
If afterwards my posts are slurred, all is well.

Troy, my rule is, if it's opened and I didn't open it, it gets dumped--no matter what it is or how expen$ive. No matter if it's a 2 liter of diet soda or a bottle of hundred year old single malt scotch. I've tossed a fair amount of stuff over the years.
Of course, I tend to be a little more paranoid than most.

If it came from the liquor store like that then I would take it back. I know they can get credit from the liquor distributor. I once worked at a liquor store. This is where my wife would say "where didn't you work?"

If they don't give you another bottle, I would leave and find another liquor store to shop at. Not before making a scene to be sure everyone in the store knew what was happening.

I have no shame; you can skip the last part if you like.

Its full of alcohol. Kind of self-disinfecting. Just wipe it down on the outside with alcohol wipes or disinfectant wipes and enjoy. And don't swig it but drink it from whatever the appropriate style glass is. (Not being an imbiber myself I have to speak in generalities since I am not in the culture)

A different Knob Creek but there is a Knob Creek gun range in Kentucky that up until 2021 hosted a huge machine gun shoot (for 50 years) where any and everything including grenade launchers were fired off. I never had the chance to go but always dreamed of it back in the dat. Every time I see the Whiskey/Bourbon from Knob Creek that's what it reminds me of.

Have a friend dump it and it won’t hurt as bad. And don’t even watch!

All these coloured bins seem a nightmare.

Here we have a blue bin for recycles and a green one for items that are not.

If Dawn had her way everything would go in one bin.
Pictou NS has "simple" system. Black bag for garbage. (Complication if more than one, the extra bags must be clear!)
Blue bags for recycle. One for paper, others for plastics and cans, but those may be combined.
Green wheelie bin for organic waste. (Not however lawn clippings)

Every municipality it seems does things a bit differently
