i have to say, the rapido mystery box was for me at least great.
walthers i dont know what to expect, maybe also some kits? who knows.
The Rapido one seemed very popular. There were several unboxing videos done on YT. i believe they sold out of the Dcc/sound ones pretty quick.

As for Walthers, it will remain to be seen how well they do. Its probably a great way to sell some of the inventory they have had sitting around for a while. I would be more keen on trying it if I could choose my modern era.

Good morning all!

Another cold Northern Illinois day. The low was 3F and only going up to around 20F. No wind so there's no real feel.

Have a volleyball game tonight. Its an away game so travel for us. Its a school that's over an hour away, and by far the farthest way in our confrence. Seems we always have to travel to this school every year. Not sure how that works out. The plus is we get to run thru Culvers for dinner, so concrete mixers are in our future.

Not much else going on. Have a couple of the wifes prescriptions to pick up at CVS. I'm not in any hurry to go since its really cold out there today.

Nothing again on the train front. I did run a couple trains last night, but no actual construction. still have the blues!

Have a safe day everyone!

Since I already exceeded my entire 2025 budget last month to beat any possible price increases.
Tom when I paid off my truck 2 years ago $349.00 a month I increased all my recreation budgets. trains, the horses, golf. That's one of the reasons I will not buy a new truck. It has 67,000 miles on it, the car 48,000 miles. I like having all that extra money to spend.

Greetings Internet peeps, and those with solid brake shoes.

It's Troy again. Remember to charge your EVs overnight when the rates are low. Add solar panels and a battery wall, and you can make up a lot of the car energy from the sun.

Now, in case you didn't notice, I started a new thread in the Layouts forum for my current iteration. I figured it needed a fresh start on a thread. Since my last one was full of mistakes, and ended with the great Coffee Shop debacle of 2024.

Sciatica is still being a pain in the leg. Had to tell the wife my leg was numb yesterday, so we did the stroke tests just to be safe. No evidence of that. It was the half an hour of standing with Sciatica that made it go numb. This time, I do better sitting than standing.

Yesterday in small (very tiny) business world was Pay Sales Tax day. I only had about $2500 in direct sales via my online store (everything from Amazon, et al counts as royalties, not direct sales). I'd known this needed to get done this week, and I had to wait on the brain to stop chasing all the other shiny squirrels around project land long enough for it to focus.

Ended up paying $18+ to the state of Indiana. I didn't hit the threshold in any other state. I also have to pay about half that to the EU for VAT, but I have a service that takes care of that. Just immediately pay their invoice each quarter, or get dinged by the service and the EU.

Working on writing another chapter for the book on kickstarter today. They keep backing the project. I'm up to $1300+ and that meant I needed to give the backers a reward I'd promised - IF we crossed $1300. So, a BONUS chapter!

Good morning, all! It's a cool, overcast and rainy day here in H-Town. Expected to remain in the 40's. And in other weather-related news, would you believe, snow forecasted for possibly Tue. or Wed. next week.

A little bird told me this morning to change my password for Amazon. I have not been able to verify, but the little bird said Am had been hacked, and they are not saying anything at the moment. Assessing the extent, I suppose, if true at all.

Do you guys remember the little generator you put on your bike for powering a headlight and taillight? It mounted to the frame and rubbed against the sidewall of the back tire. The faster you pedaled, the brighter the lights. Maybe add one of those to you EV to charge you battery, lol.

I should get some train time this afternoon. Maybe roll the die and start an op session.

STAY SAFE

Damn you Bill !!!! I was just leaving to get Chik-fil-A chicken noodle soup for lunch when I saw your post. Suddenly I don't want soup! LOL!

Soup was on sale last week so I bought 8 cans of premade soup for $1,97 a can. Today I just happened to look at the salt contend and see it was at 38% salt. They say when you reach the age of 65 your organs can no longer get rid of the salt like they use to, and you have to cut way back on it. I can't buy premade sup anymore so today I made my own and sprinkled some salt on the batch which is maybe at 1% now.

So, what everyone is saying is that there is no way to have a vehicle that will recharge itself as it is traveling down the highway. So, why have them if the traveling distance is less than gas, recharging is way more time consuming than gas, and the minerals mined needed for the batteries pose more harm than good.

Plus, you really don't get away from fossil fuel because you still need oil to make all the components needed for a EV. Steel, rubber, plastic, glass, all comes from oil. Which in the long run if properly emissioned, will be around for a very long time anyway.

Just don't get the idea that a Electric Vehicle is good for the environment. It uses all the things that a normal car or truck would use to build one and then the batteries for a EV if not properly taken care of ever needed replaced, you might as well get another vehicle. If I'm right the battery is the whole underbelly of the vehicle.

Yeah George, that's what they say. I cut way back, dropped to 143 lbs, and was told to bulk up...Too much is bad, not enough is just as bad. We use low sodium products as much as possible. Had home made soup the other night. Better than pre made. But once in a while a canned soup won't hurt.

I almost took the bait, twice once with Rapido...the other with Walthers. The wife has received mystery boxes from crafts suppliers with mixed results. So I decided I don't need a mystery box.

Using your argument, you should immediately stop operating any powered device, since absolutely none of them will match your criteria for operation.
