46 and going towards 72 the guessers say ... 77 by Sunday. Stuff will start to bud out - then get killed off during the next bout of temps in the 30's.

NOT great news from the DR yesterday. Stage 4, but not the liver! Sample sent to UC trying to determine the source? Hopefully they will have an answer before the visit to oncology next week ....

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 47° this Friday morning. Rain is in the forecast for tonight, 70% at 4:00 and 95% at midnight. The sun returns Sunday and upper 60's is predicted for a few days next week. No fog this morning after nearly a week of that stuff.

Yesterday's grocery trek was at best kinda "Ho-Hum"! Store was somewhat empty of people and there wasn't any eye candy. The only thing that they were out of was my wife's iced coffee, which meant an additional stop over at the Target a block away. The iced coffee there is as far from the front door as one could go and still be in the store. Of course she stayed home yesterday so I had to journey back there to get it.

Anyone here ever tried "Sous Vide" cooking? That's very low temperature and long cooking times in a sealed Ziploc in a heated water-bath. We got one of those cookers for Christmas from our daughter and SIL, who have been using one for a couple of years. My wife has used it on a pork roast and a T-bone steak successfully so far. She wants to try it on a trimmed brisket that I bought. We looked it up and it takes 50 hours! Might get the same results just leaving it on the kitchen table for that long. After the 50 hours, it can be put in the smoker for 4 more hours. I'm hesitant at this point.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I did start the next section of split-rail fencing for the cemetery. I need this section to be 21" and I got 2.5" done. As I posted earlier this month, it's a slow process, at least for me. I will get more done today since I will have time in the morning to do part, and the glue will be dry after I return in the afternoon. I'm also still plugging away at the structure/vehicle cleaning project on this section of layout. It's taking longer than usual since there have been more than a few days that it was too cold for me to get out there. I just cannot do any layout or workbench work with long sleeves on as they will snag something with less than desirable results. Railcar cleaning is on hiatus for a few days while the fence is on the workbench.
Let me see if I have any leftover pictures from the club layout for posting today. Yes, there are a few.

That's about it. I have others that I had to delete.

James - Enjoy the Amherst show and have a safe trip.
Chris - Socks and shoes will cover up that mis-matched foot!
David - Sunny day??? That seems unusual coming from you.
Alan - You also enjoy the show and have a safe trip.

Today would have been Eddie Van Halen's 69th birthday. It is Wayne Gretzky's 63rd.

Everybody have a great day and a wonderful weekend coming up.

I'm sure you know stage 4 is really not great. Hopefully whatever it turns out to be can be treated/removed without much more issues.

Wow not great news is an understatement. You are going to get ton’s of advice asked for and unsolicted. Listen only to the doctors and your wife. I will be pulling for you

Did they finally get it sorted out, and get you on your way?
Yes, only there for an hour, got home and realised I'd left my house keys behind so had to go back, took me 90 minutes just to follow the one-way circuit they have there (you have to follow the circuit to get to all the various car parks/buildings) to get back to the building where my keys were. Have to go back in a few weeks to get this replacement swapped over.

I was going to build a 46 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup and collected literally tons of parts. The plan was a Gen I 383 small block Chevy, SM 465 transmission, a doubled NP203/205 transfercase, and Dana 44/60 axles. I have sold some of that stuff because it is more than obvious that was something that would never get finished. I had enough problems just getting my 1955 Willys CJ 3B back together but even it has a few remaining kinks in the EFI system. Something to address when it warms up a bit so I can tweak it outside of the garage.

Wait, this is a railroad related forum-----

Our prayers to you. You have only been knocked sideways and not back.
Remain positive and don't let them grind you down.
Look up. It's the only way.

Good morning, all! We awoke to a very dense fog, and temps about 57 degrees. The last few days have been rainy with us getting about 6-1/2" over three days. Some places north of Houston got a lot more and now the bayous and rivers are flooding into people's homes. I had to relocate the new dryer yesterday as the door opened from the wrong side. I put the old water heater out for trash pick up as directed by the trash company. Both their trucks (trash, recycle) passed right by it on trash day. Magically, it disappeared over night.

Sherrel - So sorry to hear your news. I've got to agree with TomO, listen to your doctors. Keep a positive view.
Bill - Great picture
Willie - I would rather shop by myself. Give me a list, get what's on the list and out the door.
James - Safe trip, enjoy the show.

Trains - I started Saulena's Tavern the other day. It's a Bar Mills kit.

Sous Vide and Brisket... ONLY after the Brisket is properly smoke on a grill/smoker.

Many folks vacuum pack the leftovers from the original, and then use the Sous Vide to warm them up without overcooking (like microwaving does to already properly cooked meat.
Troy - Thanks for your tip. I am reading that the smoking can be done on either end of the cycle. Supposedly it can also be grilled for 8-10 minutes per side at the end to obtain the bark without cooking it.

I have been doing Sous Vide to leftover Prime Rib and other meats for years without knowing to call it that!
