Went to see the movie "Godzilla: Minus One" tonight. I was surprised it was still in the theaters as it came out on Dec 1. I had tried to get my family to go earlier but couldn't. I resolved to go tonight, by myself if need-be, but the wife came with.

I won't say much but if you have any appreciation for the original you'll want to see this. It is very true to the original and to the spirit of Godzilla. Hollyweird wouldn't have made this film. It's no longer in their DNA to be able to do so. (Not that Godzilla was ever in their DNA but even this sort of thing is no longer possible there)

WELP - I didn't deflate, but heart damn near stopped!
Something about "disturbing" a nerve which set off a chain reaction: blood pressure went to 278 and heart rate was dropping be low 30. All of a sudden, I experienced some of the worst pain that I have ever had and there were instantly 6-7 people in the room and "Code Blue" was screaming throughout the hospital.

They were all frantic, I was frantic, and wife just about lost it when they announced RADIOLOGY!
Enough excitement for one day!

MEL - some scrambled with bacon and a plate of hash browns and gravy
I'm hungry this morning!
Still glad to be here!
I too am glad you are still here!

And I'm glad to see you have a good appetite!

Good morning! Nickel Plate PA-1 #190

Louis - Speaking of Baltimore, I was reading that the Baltimore Sun just got a new owner recently. Is it too soon to tell how that is working out? It is actually one of the online sources of news that I read despite our differing political leanings. They generally seemed relatively fair in their coverage, although it was all biased a bit.
The Sun's editorials have always leaned a bit to the left, at least in my lifetime. Some more than others depending on the writer. But they always reported the facts in the news articles. They did a respectable job of keeping opinion out of the news. Nothing human can be perfect.

The Baltimore Sun was one of the world's most respected newspapers. At one time the Sun had eight foreign offices around the world. Including London, Berlin, New Delhi and one of the first US Newspapers with an office in Moscow. "The Sun never sets on the world."

Before Smith purchased the newspaper it was owned by Tribune Publishing until May 2021, when Alden Global Capital acquired it. All the foreign assets have been sold off and the staff has been reduced.

I don't know what to make of the new owner David Smith, time will tell. I have not cancelled my subscription, yet; I hear many have.

I've yet to see a Godzilla movie I didn't like!

Houston @ Baltimore 4:30pm (eastern time)

This is going to be fun to watch, I hope. Although Houston's young quarterback is cause for concern. Especially with our All-Pro cornerback, Marlon Humphrey out due to injury. I'm still confident, the Ravens secondary has been dealing with injuries all season. There is not much let down even when they must go deep into the depth chart. Add to that the Ravens lead the NFL in sacks with 60. A good pass rush always helps the secondary.

The Ravens do have the weapons if this turns into a shootout. However, I would much prefer a defensive battle with the Ravens leaning heavily on the running game. The Ravens' defense has allowed the fewest points of any team this season. I hope they can keep it up!

Good morning from Wisconsin. My corner of the state is at -1f degrees feeling like -18. We might hit a high of +13 this afternoon. 2 hockey games at the local rink for the grandson plus the UW Badger women play again this afternoon. The wife says the timing works to see the 2 in person and the Badgers on TV!

I rarely play the Mega Millions but the service counter at the grocery the other day was void of customers and the store does accept the debit card for the lottery. Purchased 5 lines for $10. Checked for last night’s drawing. We have 5 different numbers but it was 1 number per line equaling nothing. I’ve never had that before but collecting a no return is normal.

Enjoy the day

Good Morning All. Clear and 15°, headed up to upper 30's later on. Clouds moving in later this morning, so it won't be as cold tonight; but it won't be as warm tomorrow either. Monday is back to seasonal temperatures in the 50's, but the wind will be out of the SE, which means a week of showers coming up.

I'm headed for Dallas today for the annual model railroad show. I'm sure that the usual clubs and dealers will be there, but I am more interested in the home and club layout tours. Years ago there would be 30+ layouts on the tour, this weekend there are just 12; 10 open today and only 7 open tomorrow. I've been to one of the ones open today, but I plan to make a return visit. One that I would really like to see is over in Ft Worth, but I cannot include that one in my loop. Hoping to see three all together today. Looking forward to going.

Yesterday was a so-so day out in the train shed. I started removing and cleaning structures in my cleaning project area. I did 4 small ones and then tackled the cold storage facility that I posted here sometime in the last 18 months. You might recall that I broke a couple of canopy supports while re-decaling the place. I broke another while picking it up for moving to the workbench. So now I had three to fabricate and replace. That took some time but it is now complete and they are painted. I took a picture but the camera battery is on the charger right now in preparation for going to the train show. No other project work was done.
Here are a few pictures of the club layout that I am going to revisit today.

- Yes, I did have to add two heavy duty 240v, 40 amp breakers and purchase 26' of #10 gauge wire to install the tankless water heater, but I was able to use the existing wire for the second circuit. But I have 200 amp service to the house, so that wasn't any issue. I would have preferred a gas one, but that would have required venting and a hole in the roof besides the gas line.
Curt - The tavern/grill looks great.
Swal - Glad to read that you are now getting some good and useful advice regarding your wife's care. I guess that it also answers the question regarding selling the house. Good luck moving forward and continued best wishes and prayers from here in Texas.

Today is National Cheese Lovers Day. I fall into that category. But I'll be on the road, so I will have a grilled cheese sandwich tomorrow.

Everybody have a great day.

Good morning gang!

18° and sunny outside but the temp is only supposed to get to 23 today under breezy conditions.

Bill, Love the PAs!

Louis, for my money, the Sun can go belly up. They literally took our local county paper and ran it right into the ground, trying to make it something that might sell in Bmore, but won’t fly in the counties.

Karl, the Baltimore Sun has not been the same paper that won 16 Pulitzer Prices and was home to many notable writers, including HL Mencken for some time. The streamlining and cost cutting measures have taken a toll. Local reporting is one of the areas that has suffered the most.

Carroll County (I think that's right) is not the Baltimore metro area. Trying to use many of the same articles to save money would be a mistake in my mind.

I grew up reading the News American with the man who raised me. In fact, he taught me to read with the News American even before I started school. I became acquainted with the Baltimore Sun when I became a paper boy delivering the Sun when I was 11 years old. I've been reading it ever since.

Who is David Smith? When media goes private...I get curious. I always liked the Sun, although it was impossible to find North of Wilmington, DE.
I don't know much about him other than he is the owner of Sinclair Broadcast Group. So far what I have heard about him on NPR has not been encouraging news.

Until the Sun changes I will reserve judgement.

Good morning everyone!

It's a cool -1 right now. going up to maybe the low teens and drop back gto below zero again tonight. Then looks to be above average for the rest of the month. Something to look forward to, I guess.

Tom-Were used to being lottery losers as well! We had won $35 in scratch off tickets from Christmas gifts, yesterday we were down to the last $5 in winnings and drew a loser. I guess the State of Illinois was the real winner in that deal!

Enjoy your Saturday all!

Happy Saturday! 22°,Sunny, and Windy. No real warm up until Monday. Went out about 0930, to shovel. Perhaps 4" on the ground, nothing compared to Watertown, NY where cumulatively there is over 24" and still lake effecting, but a Crisis here in the land of helplessness and do for me. My ski slope driveway, apron and sidewalk took us maybe 30" shoveling and another 10" spreading 20° snow melter. Now, we are in for the weekend. Next week, I should really start the snow thrower and see if it still runs. Our worst snows seem to come in early February.

I'm gathering up data, photos and material for the Reading SW1500 build. Finding Paint is the hardest. Anyone know who sells "True Color Paint" or "Model Flex Paint"?
